Down / Re: Down Club Hurling & Football

To lose to a Div 4 team after controlling the 1st half is unforgiveable. Doen have played 8 times in last few years at Croke park and have struggled in all but 1 of those games against Laois in 23 SF. Cant explain why? Is it pitch size?  But they were leaderless yesterday when it mattered, they sleep walked through the Tailteann and got caught yesterday and in Tullamore. Got lucky against a poor Fermanagh side. I wasnt suprised they ballsed that up yesterday. Laverty praised his backroom team and coaches in lead uo to the game but Meenagh was a big loss and he wasnt replaced with same calibre.
There is something not right is it mental prep? Is there a physchologist in the set uo? There should be.
There can bw no excuse for that 2nd half.
But fair play to Wicklow it meant the world to them yesterday. Down wouldve trudged around the pitch with the cup with a big forlorn head on them. This we deserve to be in Sam head on them. You dont deserve to be in Sam and you proved yesterday why you dont. Your not good enough. 1 game doesnt mean you should be playing sam maguire football. Donegal proved they werent all that losing to Cork and Dublin.
How do you be so prepared for 1 game in the year and not the rest.
Also as i said before the underage set up needs sorted before we do anything. Is there anyone in the U20s this year that would be an addition?

Quote from: thewobbler on July 11, 2026, 09:48:37 PMDown just need to evolve folks.

Our (relatively successful) gameplan for the past few years has been to work every play around the 4-5 main men. Understandable. The right move at the time.

All of those big players had forgettable second halves today. It happens.

But the next ones up aren't used to doing it.

It's now to evolve.

Mayo's full forward line scored 2.16 this evening. With two teenagers in it.

That's the way forward.

Best take on today. We run the ball 40/50m instead of kicking it, take very little risk in attack. Look at Kobe McDonald today, didn't care about losing the ball kicked it whenever he could, had a bit of flair in his link up play.

Our game plan is still tied to the old rules a bit like Donegals is (perhaps why we won against them).
We dont have players of the Kobe mould. We prob have never jad as poor a forward unit.

Well done Wicklow you deserved it.enjoy the celebrations. As a Down man im not overly suprised that we managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Its why we are in the TC. And id say we will be in it for another few years.

Iown are always able to drop to the level of the teams they are playiing. We dont have the players but those that were on the pitch today shpuld have seen tgat. They all had a mare. Especially Murdock. He missed som amoint of kickable scores and was non existent at midfield. Burns is the o ly man who can take any credit from today.
How.they didnt see that out is criminal. But all the non match gping Down fans who thonl Lav should go , whp wpuod they replace him with? We dont have the quality.
Ive said it for years the underage set up is a farce and Down will struggle umtil that is sorted. All pur teams are B Championship level. Thats not a coincidence.
The day belongs to Wicklow and fair play to them. They deserved it.
A good year up until Clones. All downhill after that.

Can they not build 2 15k capacity stands along both sides and 2 open terraces for 150M. My god what an embarrasment these muppets are. Looks like we will forever be going to that kip of a ground in clones.
No need for all that corporate nonsence. A big room with a bar for the 2 times a year it would be needed. Laughing stock.

Good question. Not sure of allocation. I logged on at 11.50 and was put in a Q. 8k infront of me and all that was left were hill and Davin. Clun allocation was probably All cusack and hogan. I doubt tailteann got more than 5k each to the county board

Indeed they were.

As someone stated last week why aren't both tailteann semis curtain raisers to the all ireland semis.

Both games unlikely to get full houses but might be close if supplemented with tailteann cup.

Tailteann cup final could be played Saturday before all ireland final and make weekend of it.
Final was same day as All Ireland semis 2 years ago is this still the case?

That usually is the case.  Normally the Saturday semi i think with the junior all ireland final the sunday curtain raiser does it be?
Sat 11th July. Saw 3.30pm throw in somewhere. With AISF at 6pm.

Semi finals are for winning. Granted 2nd half wasnt a great watch. But in kilcoo fashion got the win.
Positive note is Eamon Brown, he really has impressed in thr last 2 games.
We need to be more clinical upfront.
Dont care what rte commentary say i think Pat meant that goal. He looked to place it.

Doen never do things easy no matter who is in charge. All league we were getting reeled in but saw it out.

3 appears to have a lot to answer for but unsure of wider story.
Saw the video; looks nasty

Aye understand all these things go on all over including in my own county Tyrone but the kicks and knees are probably what needs to be made an example of across the country. looks great in an octagon not so much on the local gaa field.
Anyone care to say what happened? In what game?

Will HQ get the opportunity to introduce a 3rd tier competition before then?
If there was a 3rd tier how many counties would be in it?. Would you end up with 8 in TC and 8 in junior. Imagine the lack of promotion it would get from the GAA and media.

Down got the job done early yesterday. Really performed and game was done after 10 mins. Eamon Brown had a great game. Scores came alot easier than anyother game thus year. With a minimum of 1 or max 2 games remaining both in Croke park, the incentive should now be there to kick on and win the TC. All remaining sides will fancy their chances. I think sides that have met already will be kept apart cant play offaly next so it will be Fermanagh or Wicklow next sunday in croke park.
