Quote from: Hereiam on August 14, 2026, 02:22:58 PMThe big mistake was made was that the police were not there from the start to close the road while this was going on. When darea talk about lessons learnt this is what they are on about.
It wasn't an ideal way of dealing with this but the department were never going to rock up and walk these cattle into a shed or lorry any farmer knows this.
The fact the ole cnut went out and got more cattle after his previous conviction for animal cruelty should be more talked about and I know of a farmer local to me who was also convicted now has a shed full of cattle, there should be unannounced inspections being carried out on anyone convicted to make sure this doesn't happen.

As said, when you see the who was at the protest it just says it all. SF/SDLP were never getting up on that lower loader to speak under that stupid Carson statue with the type of crowd there.

I have to admit Muir is not the face for agriculture but at the end of the day he is only the puppet that is there for the photo opportunities and structured words.
Why what was wrong with them?

Nothing wrong with them but cattle are not the easiest animal to handle especially cows with calves as if they see someone they don't know .....the tails are up. It only takes one to cause the rest to become demons and they will run.

The only hope they had of getting them in a crush or shed would have been the farmer giving them meal every day and they would follow him if he had a bucket in his hand. I suspect they were not getting any meal and he would not have been around them to much.

Someone said they were in 30+ acres with no fencing. You'd need to cover some ground to gather them all up if they've been left to roam for a while.

There still could have been a better solution to this.

Quote from: lurganblue on August 07, 2026, 09:32:36 AMHoping to get to see Spiderman at the weekend.  I have looked at going a couple of times this week but the cinema has been jam packed, so I thought I better avoid for a wee while.

Most of the recent Marvel shows have been keek. I suspect this will be decent.

Took the kids the other night. We all enjoyed it - they haven't went far wrong with the Spiderman movies.

Quote from: ardtole on July 27, 2026, 07:51:47 PMThe last time Wicklow beat us in the championship we got to the All Ireland final the following year.

Maybe history will repeat itself, and maybe go one step further.

Do we have a Beirne, kobi coming through?. Down are Mentally weak. Mayo went to croke pk on sunday with no baggage no fear of losing, they didnt have the anxiery of previous years. They didnt collapse when 7 pts down early on. Football has been brought pack to the pack, a lot of teams will fancy their chances next year. Remember Monaghan shouldve beat Mayo in Clones in the 2nd half. Meath had a massive lead on thrm in Castlebar. There isnt a massive gulf now.
For those calling for new management, who would they suggest. Laverty needs years to sort the mess out that went before him. A mess that started in 2011 when Tally left McCartans set up.
Downs goal next year is to stay in Div 2. Anything after that is a bonus. Consistency is key. Mayo are always in Div 1.

It all seems to be a bit unsettled at the minute but I can't see them making a change with Lav. If they don't stay in div 2 he will be under pressure though.

We thought Tally was a problem and he seems to have done ok since, granted not as the nr 1.

There's not a lot of young stand out players coming through in Down that are ready to make a big change but Mayo haven't been flying at underage lately either. We beat them at minors this year in the B championship.

Those things. Plus the timing. There was always a rivalry but because both sides were in the top 3 in the country for about 4/5 years, and meeting regularly, every game was monumental. Crowds were swelling at that time too with a lot of young ones off their skulls on the buses on the way. It was a powderkeg. And don't forget the football was fairly high standard with some legendary players at their peak.

I'd say at their peak Tyrone edged Armagh on footballing terms but the Orchard were far more consistent.

Great days. Great atmoshere. But made you sick as a dog too. When Armagh beat us in the 05 Ulster final, I was in France and it ruined the holiday.

I watched that game (as a neutral) in Tenerife with 2 families Derry and Tyrone that were related. Derry ones were wearing Armagh jerseys. That was the Croke Park final wasn't it?

Final and Replay both in Croke Park that year.. I remember being a cub going to that final Down where on before in the Minor final. 60k in croke park - Some atmosphere.

I can't remember now was it a draw I watched or not. I was at the final in 05 for the same reason - great atmosphere. Tyrone men offering thousands for tickets before the match.

Quote from: westbound on July 14, 2026, 12:48:25 PMdid Cawley actually make ANY mistake??

The 3 big disputed calls
- Penalty? Many people think it was a penalty, many people think it wasn't.  Therefore, it's hard to say he definitely made a mistake on this one.
- Square ball goal - definintely a square ball, but sure it's the umpires that should be watching for this? Obviously cawley should be watching it too and maybe he could have called it, but the first responsibilty is with the umpires here
- 'Ghost goal' - How in the name of all that's holy can the ref be blamed for 'missing' this in real time? With the benefit of replays, still images and 48hours later, it's still not 100%  clear if the ball was over the line or not. You can argue that the umpires should have seen it, but even that is harsh imo. But the ref certainly couldn't call it  from out the field.

I'm no fan of cawleys's but let's be fair to the man too.

There was a softer penalty given against Down on Saturday and nobody mentioned it again. Similar type tackle with less contact - no goal came from it so it was forgot about maybe.

Quote from: gallsman on July 14, 2026, 09:17:53 AM2020 Skoda Karoq wiper fluid not coming out of either front or rear wipers. Reservoir is full and no obvious blockage or leaks. Wiper fluid pump doesn't have a dedicated fuse and no other electrical problems. Pump most likely knackered?

Is there a noise when you try the washers? The tank could be blocked. The washer fluids can settle and solidify blocking the line up if everything else is working. Pump should be ok at that age

Any news on the colours to be worn for the final? Both teams have a blue/navy change strip. Will there be a toss for home colours in that case?
Some on twitter talking about Mayo playing in white - could they use the keepers jersey as a registered kit?

Quote from: highorlow on July 01, 2026, 01:34:09 AMGer Brennan was in The (Cuala) Hyde tonight, likely getting advice from Mick Fitz on how to mark D.Clifford, it'd be interesting to find out who kept Clifford to his lowest score.

MF probably heads the table.
Barry McCambridge kept him to a point from play in 2024 and got a goal himself, not sure many have done much better. Unfortunately Clifford tore him a new arse in 2025.

Clifford had a couple of bad days with him and Chrissy McKeague in 24 under the old rules. I actually though Armagh did well on him last year in the 1st half but it was Seanie O'Se and others that stepped up and that gave him a bit more space in the 2nd half.

Quote from: Keane on June 26, 2026, 09:20:01 AMA bit like the Armagh game last week (at least per my memory) Tyrone started well and were well on top in the kickout stakes. Gradually Kerry began to assert themselves and led at HT. A few minutes of the second half Tyrone stayed in touch but Kerry stretched away and kept them at arm's length thereafter.

Playing Kerry under these rules can be ,a bit like the guy that jumped off the cliff and half way down felt that he was doing fine. All of a sudden, you have a few two pointers or goals in a row and the game is gone. With Clifford rampant such things are quite probable.

It does feel as if the rules have been rigged in their favour.

It may take years for other teams to adjust and find ways to compete and catch up with Kerry's headstart.

The opposite way to look at it is Kerry have embraced the new rules and yes they have the players to exploit it but other teams, Donegal for one but there is others, spend their time trying to control the game and take the game back to where it was before the rule changes.

Quote from: Goals_Will_Come on June 25, 2026, 11:52:31 AMDonegal have shown twice if you throw a slap or two at them and get physical they lie down. Tyrone need to follow this mantra and also learn from Armaghs mistakes and go at them. Jordan's two point potential could be crucial for Tyrone. Fitness of Canavan also a big factor, even for squad depth.

Kerry were 4 or 5 players short for both games. If Murphy was sent off in the league final the game would have been completely different. Burns red card changed the game Kilarney.

Tyrone could beat Kerry for many reasons but I really don't see this Kerry team as soft.

Quote from: marty34 on June 18, 2026, 06:59:38 PMWhen the minor final was on before the senior final, what was the breakdown in ticket allocation between the 4 teams?

I was on a minor panel that got to the final and the senior players (who didn't get to the final) got more tickets than the minor players did.
And I wouldn't want to presume that you didn't go on and have a stellar intercounty career, but how does that achievement and experience rank in your gaa career and hell, as a life experience?

It was mixed to be honest. Great experience being part of all that and cherished memories for everyone involved. There was bad parts too that young ones aren't really ready to deal with - but are part of every sport. It was very strict with 24 togged out so a few of us, and I was one of them, felt completely isolated from the match experience on the day.

The ticket thing was a complete pain for young lads that didn't need to be dealing with. I can see why a stand alone day is good for that.

The last minor final I saw before the senior game was the hurling a few years ago and I noticed how young the lads looked - that was early days of the U17s.
