Laois / 2026 Intermediate Football Championship
July 28, 2026, 12:02:54 PM
Deserves its own thread.
Saw Ballylinan beat Arles last night. Gary Walsh basically the difference between the two teams. Not fit but a class act. Ballylinan picked up a couple of really bad looking injuries including Ryan Brady who was very good. Could cost them in round two.
Could be between between Ballylinan and Mountmellick but the likes of Ballyfin, Kilcavan, Annanough might put a couple of wins together too. Pretty open championship.

Laois / Laois under 20 Football Championships A and B
November 03, 2025, 11:38:33 AM
I see some good discussion on the hurling thread about the under 20 championships.

Just interested to hear views on the under 20 football.

The A should be interesting. Looking like SPG, Na Fianna Og and Portlaoise are strong contenders.

Graiguecullen, St Pauls and O'Dempseys should battle out the B.

Laois / Laois Senior Football Championship 2024
July 23, 2024, 09:01:10 PM
Starts tomorrow night with Ballyroan Abbey v The Heath.
BA should win this.
Port v O'Dempsey's is hard to call. I think O'D's to edge it.
Clonaslee could pull off a shock against a very understrength Emo.
Strad to beat Rosenallis comfortably enough.
Killeen to edge Ballyfin.
Joseph's to beat Graigue by around 5.
Portlaoise could beat Ballylinan by maybe 10.
Killeshin v Courtwood - Killeshin with Roche and Lowry back might edge this.

Laois / Laois Intermediate Football Championship 2022
August 08, 2022, 10:15:12 AM
Didn't see a thread.

Looks like The Heath's to lose but I suppose the likes of Crettyard, Timahoe and Mountmellick have all come down from senior in recent years and failed to bounce straight back so they'd want to avoid complacency.

Quarter finals are Ballyroan Abbey v Mountmellick and Timahoe v Arles Kilcruise with Crettyard and The Heath waiting for the winners in the semis.

The Rock v O'Dempseys in the relegation final. I suppose The Rock should edge that but wouldn't be too sure.

Laois / Leinster Minor Football Championship 2020
January 23, 2022, 04:11:46 PM
We're in a group with Dublin, Louth and Westmeath. Management team is Conor Gorman, Paddy Dunne and Eamonn O'Connell. Donie Brennan not involved as rumoured before Christmas.
Played Carlow this weekend. Didn't hear how it went.

Laois /  Leinster Under 20 Football Championship 2022

Think we got a tough enough draw in Kildare. They're usually decent at this level.
Eddie Kinsella in charge again. Played Tipperary during the week and had a very big win. 12 points or so I heard. Were due to play Sligo today. Didn't hear anything about that one.

Laois / Other sports

Just said I'd throw this up here. Might generate some chat. Not a lot of GAA at this time of year except a bit of colleges stuff and the Leinster club semis.

I always keep an eye on the local soccer and rugby team results. Portlaoise AFC first team play in the Leinster Senior League which is a really high standard. There's always a few GAA connections with them too. Colm Coss, Paul Cahillane and Scott Osbourne are or were among their squad. Had been going well but have now lost three on the bounce and probably won't be getting promoted this season.

Mountmellick would be the top Laois team in the CCFL and Stradbally, Abbeyleix, Clonaslee and Rosenallis always have good teams. Arlington play in the Kildare league and Crettyard and Killeshin play in the Carlow league and I think teams from Durrow, maybe Mountrath and Rathdowney play in the Kilkenny league.

In the rugby Portarlington are going well this year but they are in the very bottom league while Portlaoise are going OK two divisions higher.

I like a bit of boxing too. Michael Nevin is a great prospect. So are Cian Reddy and Chris Cekiso. I often think of Michael O'Reilly too. Was heading to the Olympics until a stupid mistake cost him everything. Could he ever come back?

There's a few great young athletes too. Ava O'Connor, Sarah Buggy and Ruby and Nessa Millett.

Laois / Laois Senior Football Championship 2021
August 29, 2021, 11:55:41 AM
Starts next Thursday night with Portlaoise v Courtwood. Hard to see anything other than a Portlaoise win in that.
Expect Port to easily account for Ballyfin.
Emo v O'Dempseys could be a cracker.

Just started this to avoid confusion with the 2020 thread.
Great result for Castletown the other night!

I hope I'm wrong but I fear this could be a short thread.
Anyway, we play Westmeath on Sunday week. Massive improvement from our league displays needed if we are to trouble them.

Didn't see a thread.
Good win for The Rock over Annanough tonight. Safe for another year.
Crettyard should be good enough to bounce straight back up but Clonaslee will give them a good run for it.
