Wonderful! I feared for them in those early stages with some of the decision making but they came through it and were very deserving winners. Indeed, the 3 point margin flattered Kerry.

Congratulations to all from Mayo - it was a privilege to see you get that All Ireland. I must say that Mayo have handled so many crushing disappointments with grace and class. Nobody is as deserving of this title. And I mentioned Farrandeelin before the game - thinking of himself and all the Mayo folk who didn't see this day. They would be immensely proud of that team.

Well indeed Ross but that is reflected in the narrative around them, which is never the case with the other lot!

All the best to Mayo today. Kerry are obviously a good team but as per usual in Ireland people lose the run of themselves over them. If Mayo had lost the League final by 13 points, lost a Championship match by 10 points earlier in the summer by 10, and subsequently enjoyed large slices of fortune to come through the quarters and semis, would they be seen as huge favourites? Of course not. Kerry are good, but they're aren't anywhere near unbeatable.

And as ever when Mayo are involved in a big match, I'll be thinking of our old friend Farrandeelin. Hopefully this is finally the day.

That was a fine effort from Tyrone. We have to reflect on an attack that was at times too pedestrian, on too many wides, and on losing the kick out battle badly. But for all that we were right in at the end. And while we only have ourselves to blame for the issues highlighted above, the officials made some huge errors in the closing stages in particular that had a massive impact on the outcome. That leaves a sour tate in the mouth.

After the shambles of the league the Championship has been much better. It will stand to the all the young players on the panel - and there's more of them to come.  I'd like to think some of the older lads will stick around for a year or two yet. Speaking of them, hats off to McCurry, magnificent cameo.

Good point about Tyrone surprising Kerry four times then winning four AI titles.  The catch is that those Tyrone teams did it with a defensive system that could frustrate Kerry's overwhelming talent.  Such defensive systems have been banned by the new rules, allowing Kerry to run riot.

One way to look at it is that the most talented team should be champion.  However the most talented may always be Kerry.  Even the most enthusiastic fans of the new rules, may tire of everyone else playing for 2nd place.

Seems like a choice between the new rules with total Kerry dominance or the old rules where less talented teams can use the rules to negate such dominance.

Of course I'm wrong as I'm dealing in absolutes(unless five years from now we're speculating on Kerry's run for #7).  I'm not expected anyone to trouble this great Kerry squad.  However if one team can, I think it's Monaghan, which has developed the kind of attitude Tyrone had in "05 and '08.

People still coming up with this tripe 20 years on. Tyrone were just better than Kerry in that decade. They won the three Championship encounters and by an aggregate score of 14 points - which flattered Kerry. Look at that 2005 Tyrone full forward line - Mulligan, Canavan and O'Neill with McGuigan feeding them. Kerry simply couldn't cope.

The 2021 team wasn't in the same class but they didn't defeat Kerry with defensive football either, it was a very open game.

Kerry are very beatable but I can't see this Tyrone side doing it. Very much a team in transition with so many young players coming through. It's been unfortunate for Tyrone that the likes of Hampsey, McCurry and also Darragh haven't been available consistently (or at all) over the last few months to help with the balance between new players and those with more experience. The league was a shambles and while the Championship has been much better you're still working from a pretty small sample size there. I'd hope coming out of the two games against Roscommon and Mayo with narrow wins will have really helped the young lads. Main thing tomorrow is to give it a right good rattle, be competitive and gain more experience. If they do so and end up in the closing stages with a chance to win then great, but I don't think they are really at that point yet.

Could save the hassle of the final and hand it to cork now. Serious team, didnt give derry a kick second half, could have been another 20 in it. Tyrone wont get near them

Tyrone were on a different level to Derry in the Ulster final to be honest, the final score flattered Derry hugely.

So tight that whoever lost it could point to a number of wee things. Tyrone dominated first 15 mins of second half but in that period Mayo got a couple of two pointers to stay in touch then the goal. Having got back into it the free conceded by the otherwise excellent Teague was a disaster. Mayo will point to that goal chance at the end - that would have finished the game.

Great to see the old timers standing up for Tyrone. The experience of winning a second tight Championship match in a row will stand to all the youngsters and there is plenty of hope after the disjointed league form. Are they capable of really competing at this stage, still not sure, but moving in the right direction now.

2-16 to 1-12 at the end. Tyrone should have won a fair bit more convincingly and I'm sure they'll be looking at their shooting and decision making in attack, but all in still a fine performance. Congratulations to the team.

Played very well first half. Lost their way a bit in second half but managing to turn it around after going behind - when momentum was all behind Roscommon - was very impressive. Winning a Championship match in those circumstances should stand to all the young players too. Plenty to work on but that has to go down as a very good day. And a fitting day to get the win.

Great win for Tyrone. Wasn't the perfect performance it must be said and in particular lost their way in attack in the second half, too many occasions when they became pondersome and made poor decisions and didn't keep the scoreboard ticking. Huge credit though that they didn't lose the heads, kept going and found a way to get over the line in the end. Will do the many young lads in the team a power of good to win a tight Championship match and on the road too.

Some excellent stuff in the first half and great to see McElhom standing up with a big performance. Plenty of others also impressive and thought Mattie was, as always, a big influence with his leadership. Something to build on there. Let's hope the Canavans aren't too far away now to give us more options and depth.

RIP Frank - an absolute magician of a footballer and one of the all time Tyrone greats. Condolences to the wider family.

Hopefully the class of 2026 can turn in a performance for everyone this afternoon. Have to feel that the remainder of this year's Championship is vital for Malachy O'Rourke if he is to be the man to take this team forward. We really shouldn't be in a position where losing narrowly to Armagh in Ulster was seen as a good result following a poor campaign in Division 2. Transition and all that I know - but it needs to be better and has to start to getting better now.

What did  we  expect McGuinness was going to say? .... Aye,  you're right. I'm fecked here .  Throw the book at me. Definitely a long  ban  coming my way, and I'll deserve it?

A polite politician style response perhaps?  This brings more attention to it.

Indeed, it would have been easy enough to give an answer that didn't say much. Instead he drew more attention to it.

Sending off killed it as a contest but Donegal extremely effective in the way they put it away. The second goal hitting the net as Kerry fans streamed out of the ground was very amusing.

Great stuff from Down. For all they had played so well I suspected Donegal would take them in the closing stages. Far from it - Down saw it through in some style. Fair play to them!

It's impossible to argue against facts, this time last year we were

- incredibly unlucky to get relegated on the largest points total in div 1 history
- had Armagh on the ropes until we threw it away in last minute
- beat the all Ireland finalists in their own back yard
- beat Dublin in the AI QF

This year we are:

- genuinely on the brink of not even being in the all Ireland series.
- Only beat the two teams who are likely to be relegated to Div 3
- appear to have a very unhappy camp

I'm definitely not saying this in a 'get MOR out' way but the trend is incredibly worrying. We look to have no shape, I can't see any discernable game plan, we're giving away horrendous goals, not defending obvious threats (e.g. Meath no12 having the time of his life kicking 2 pointers for the craic) and I could go on.

I'll absolutely be in the athletic grounds convincing myself we've a chance, however, setting aside the emotional brain my logical thoughts are all doom and gloom.

This is a good summary, a remarkable and very concerning drop off during this league campaign. Not going back up not necessarily a problem if we felt players were getting experience and we were building a team but I didn't see much evidence of that, really looked like a side lacking direction. Even with that every one of those games was there for Tyrone and they invariably didn't step up. A very poor effort given the unquestionable talent available.

If the team takes this aimless form into the Championship then there will rightly be serious questions about MOR come the end of the season. Or maybe it's all part of a masterplan and a blistering Championship awaits. Maybe 🤔
