i hear there's going to be an investigation into the Brian Mc Guigan incident ? surely Tyrone's top players need protection when they're on the field even if it is only a reserve match ?

Why do their top players need protection? why should they get any more protection than the reserve players they were playing against???? If McGuigan had injured some poor tyrone reserve player this badly, i'm sure we wouldn't be hearing anything about it. I imagine the incident was probably dirty or maybe just hard hitting but I think we can be sure it was no dirtier than felonies committed by mcguigan and co. down the years at club and county level.

I agree with POG here.. Some would argue that its been harder to win an ulster in the past few years than an all ireland.. this is evident in Armaghs case anyway... by the time they come out of their province they are Fu*ked!

I think in 2005 tyrone played 11 games in order to win the all-ireland, correct me if im wrong? i Think that would be much more draining than winning any ulster.

how can you be happy with a bunch of ulster titles when we clearly failed to pick up at least one other all-ireland that we were clearly capapble of getting

i think his words have been misconceived here. i dont think he means armagh as a county have been consistent over 30 years. im pretty sure he means this current team as in the mcgeeney, mcgrane and mcconnville era have been the most consistant team of players of the last 30 years. i agree.

i would trade all those ulster titles for another all-ireland anyone who argues otherwise is ridiculous.

GAA Discussion / Re: GAA project help

The Media's role in society is generally accepted to be one of an unbiased watchdog mainly keeping politicians and authorities of society in check. This can also be applied to sports, the media should hold an impartial opinion on sporting bodies and remain unbiased at all times while covering sporting events. I don't believe this to be the case between RTE and the GAA. It wouldn't be unfair to say that in some way, the two bodies are very much interwined, working together constantly. This can be seen in the way in which I believe RTE refuses to criticise the GAA on any contentious issue. Its almost like the same way Sky constantly try and sell the premiership, never saying a bad word about it and calling every Sunday a 'Super Sunday'. Their business depends on the attraction of the premiership and in the same way the GAA is worth so much to RTE.

There are two blatent examples of this. Some years ago, back when Ger Canning would commentate on the International rules with the Aussie guy, when the first row broke out the camaras turned away, filming the crowd. This was almost censoring the violence, protecting the GAA. Although I do except that the rows in the last series were well covered.

I am much less forgiving of the second example. When the new qualifying system was first introduced, RTE and Micheal Lyster along with the GAA deceitfully conned the whole of the Irish public into believing that the draw was live and transparent. It was indeed neither, as we found out when in typical fashion RTE messed up by showing the actual fixture on screen before it had even been drawn out of the bowl.

i dont know if theyre thinking about it or what but that is apparently what dup are pushing for and they reckon they got some agreement out of it in the talks, sure dont they have the sports minister position?

William Irwin is my nextdoor neighbour, he told me about it the other day, he was fairly adamant that it actually could happen apparently there is even some agreement about it in the ulster council too, because it would mean more funding from the government and stuff, which would mean more free diknners and trips abroad.

GAA Discussion / Northern Ireland Gaa League
May 04, 2007, 08:15:45 PM
My local DUP concillor told me that Ian Paisley is supposed to be meeting members of the Ulster council within the next 6 months so that he can discuss restructuring of the Gaa in Northern Ieland. Apparently they want to separate the 6 counties away from the 26 and form our own northern ireland gaa championship, pulling out of the all-ireland. Counties would be restructured to make more teams like south derry and north derry etc.. This is supposedly to make the gaa more "protestant-friendly" and was even discussed during the sf/dup talks according to him. can anyone shed some light on this? and what do you all think, i wouldnt be opposed to it, it would definately stop any whinging from the southerners.
