General discussion / Re: Gardening

I widened my driveway, new tar all round, left with a smaller front lawn now. Thinking of getting shot, what would it take (decorative) stones wise to sort roughly 250sqft, cost? Stones only, assuming I do the grafting myself. Anyone any idea?

GAA Discussion / Re: International rules

Quote from: twohands!!! on October 17, 2025, 02:15:19 PMI think the international rules is a lot less popular in counties who have "lost" a few players to Oz - was talking to a Mayoman who was saying he hopes the Mayo players have nothing to do with it - between Oisin Mullins, the Hanleys and the rumour that Kobe will be heading there before too long his attitude was that any Aussies who come sniffing around should be thrown in the Atlantic and the GAA is mad to be any way friendly to them. He did make the point that the way other sports specifically soccer and rugby are treated by GAA officaldom seems to be almost at the other end of the scale compared to the welcome mat rolled out for the Aussies - he was of the opinion that the fact that none of the other sports were offering the potential for free junkets to GAA officials like the Aussie Rules were doing had a lot to do with the difference in approach.

There's definitely been a fair few comments from some of the Kerry GAA media folk talking down the game - this is a piece in the Examiner from John O'Keeffe today (which is prehaps no surprise as his club are supposedly losing a seriously promising youngster to Brisbane in the next few weeks.
A lot of truths in that post. The  attitude comparison to soccer/rugby is so evident. I've always been a fan of International Rules, it's largely shite but I'd watch it before a lot of other sports. In recent times the series have been tolerated by the AFL as an expensive flag of convenience to access the Irish youth in a friendly atmosphere.

Losing young MacDonald would be a travesty, but there's nothing stopping a Mayo sugardaddy giving him a sweet job on great wages. It's been done and continues to be done throughout the country.

Quote from: trileacman on October 13, 2025, 10:33:56 PMThe Mitchell and Webb CH4 show is beyond bad, each skit worse than the last. Some let down given their earlier stuff.
10 mins of the first episode was enough for me. It obviously doesn't improve.
Watched it all and thought it largely pretty good. The aussie farmer soap was shite

Quote from: bennydorano on October 12, 2025, 04:21:23 PMDont think so, never been fully explained by our Monaghan brethren. I posted this before but I cycle through it regularly, it's a small village, there's a lot of other clubs within a few mile, remember reading Tydavnet(a neighbouring village), used to have their own team but folded and presumably play for Scotstown now. A planter town originally too. Their dominance is interesting from an outsider perspective.

Scotstown I think went almost twenty years without a championship win before goin onto dominate from the 2010's. It comes down to a lot of focus on youth development and also a cohort of their best ever players emerging (Hughes Brothers, Beggan, McCarthy). For sure, they have a big parish with Scotstown, Tydavent, Knockatallon, Ballinode all in their area with 3 primary schools. Compare that to the Clontibret parish which has 3 separate clubs (2 senior (Clontibret and Cremartin) and one intermediate (Doohamlet). Scotstown did get their shit and had some top class people club people who put some great structures in place for them. That conveyor belt of talent is starting with a new cycle with the likes of Tommy Mallen, Sean Og McElwaine and couple of others  now starting to emerge. They will be big players for Scotstown for years to come.

Sounds like they are indeed the Errigal of Monaghan then
What qualifies them? They've  Truagh Gaels 8m away, Emyvale 6m away, Tyholland 10m, Monaghan Harps 5m away.  All on their Eastern flank, sparse enough population to the west, mostly bogland.

Gweedore missed 3 chances in last few minutes, 2 of them gimmes. Looks like extra time?

Well done Dunloy, great to see a breakthrough win. Very entertaining game.

I hope that's not Milltown refereeing the Antrim county final, worst penalty award ever!

Even before last night's semi I thought Madden would beat either of them in the final. I still think so but Cullyhanna showed some serious steel last night. It will be a very close final, could see extra time / replay.

Well done Cullyhanna, didn't see it panning out like that with Nugent leaving the shooting boots at home in the 1st half. Cross should have been home in a boat but Cullyhanna did miss a serious amount of chances and still won. Cian McConville getting a (deserved) black card was crucial. A final to really look forward to.

Well done Madden, fully deserved winners, they hit their usual bagful of wides but most importantly got over the line. A seriously fit, organised and well coached team. I do think their shooting (especially in the AG) is a regular issue tbh.

Couldn't get that mywhoosh going on my appletv set up, nor on tablets, got it going on my phone eventually, did a couple of spins on it during the poorer summer days, but I couldn't be arsed with the phone thing so I'm back on Zwift. Zwift is hard to beat for keeping the interest up / interaction. I found trainer road hard work in all senses. Mywhoosh was dead on for a free app

I'd say been 2 or 3 years since I first said Bruno is both United's most talented player but also the cause of most of their problems, you can never be a 'system' team with a flakey skitehead like him as the fulcrum.
