I hear all the arguments about condensed seasons and costs but the reality is that most games are not entertaining and you could hear a pin drop for most of the 4 games this past weekend.  Mickey Harte famously said he was not there to entertain and he (once again) had delivered on that.

I think Jarlath Burns is smart and motivated enough to make some changes before it's too late.  It's a sad day when people like me turn off the TV because they can't stand it anymore.

Hurling also has become dominated by stats but the main reason hurling is now more entertaining is because you can score from 90 or 100 yards out the field so a packed defense won't work.

How about starting with all kickouts from the 21 and must cross the 45 before being touched? This short kickout is terrible and has robbed the game of one of the greatest spectacles i.e high fielding.

Anothe item of note was that 2 matches had no goals at all..

Time to wake up before it's too late

Haven't posted in a while but after watching the 4 games this weekend I hope the committee introduce some new rules before football becomes unwatchable.  Apart from the second half of Galway v. Dublin this was a snoozefest.  I hate to see what football has become. We get an occasional good game now and again but in general it has become very hard to watch.

Hopefully some new ideas are out there because the stats have taken away the entertainment and it is very sad indeed.

Would this week's match v Down not be a decider more so than the Westmeath game?

True but what I meant was if Dow beat both us and Westmeath then our bead to head might decide who goes up.  Can't rule out Clare either. Down with a tough closing schedule with Sligo, Westmeath and Clare left.

Boring - so sad to see what most football games have become.

Galway obviously heavily favored.  We seem to play better when underdogs but hope we can keep this one close.  Good opportunity for us to get tough games in the qualifier which will only help us in the long run.  Things are improving in Sligo but realistically we can only hope Galway have a bad day.

Some real talent there on both sides.  I would expect a few being drafted to the seniors later this year.  Really impressed with our full forward, reminded me a bit of Damian Comer.

Hard luck to Galway but believe me our second championship means more to us than a 22nd would to Galway.

Keep it going lads.  The other surprising and good thing about this team is that there was no starting players from either Tourlestrane or Tubbercurry, which tells me there is a lot of good work being done at underage throughout the county. Add in the 2 schools victories for Sligo schools and I have to say the future looks very bright for us.

Good win for Laois in Sligo
0-11 to 2-11
Good away win for Laois indeed.  Our old habits of giving away the ball too easily returned and we got caught out a number of times.  Still hopeful that we can produce a better result the next day. Not the start we hoped for especially playing at home.
