Quote from: Truth hurts on October 20, 2025, 12:18:09 PMShould the SFC and IFC be reduced to twelve teams each to improve standards?

How does that help the SFC? Less teams won't close the gap to Kilcoo. If you have a lot of Div 3 teams in the JFC it would make it very hard for the div 4 teams but you could argue most struggle anyway.

You could say it would make us more competitive at IFC & JFC in Ulster.

Yes, our records in IFC and JFC at provincial level have been poor in recent years. A Junior B title could be effective for teams knocked out of the first round of the junior (seeded draw based on league placings).  I don't believe our championships met very high standards. It is a debate that I believe we should and it would be interesting to hear peoples opinions.

Our championships have actual junior/intermediate teams playing in them. We aren't like Cavan having a senior team in junior championship

Daft statement. Cavan's system is no worse than Down's. A team in Down could get promoted from division 4 to division 1 in consecutive years but fail to win the junior championship. That makes them a division 1 team, not a 'senior' team.

I actually like the fact that Down and Cavan don't link their league to championship grade as I think you should only move up a championship grade if you win the one below, rather than get a good league run. I wish Armagh would follow suit but it's unlikely to happen anytime soon.

Regarding the original point about 12 teams in championship, it has some merit.
12 teams in senior, intermediate,
Junior (4 groups of 3). Remainder in junior b. Bottom teams in each group enter relegation play offs. Top 2 go into quarters.
Why should you not get promoted for winning the league out of interest?

You should get promoted to a higher division if you win the league, as is the case currently in Down. My point is that league form shouldn't dictate what championship grade you play in, instead it should be based on championship performances. I don't like the idea of championship and league being linked.

Going by this then Carryduff would still be playing Junior Championship!

Quote from: Square Ball on October 13, 2025, 10:24:57 PMSo, we are County minor Football champions for the first time 😁. Absolutely supberb performance from every single player. Not the hard bit faced by near every club, get these fellas playing senior. So close to the minor double as well.

So next stop St Paul's

Congrats to Bredagh. Should this not be happening more often though given your huge numbers? I'd be asking more why it's not happening regularly. Your senior team has never broken any delph.
Don't know where to begin. Two IFCs that's it recently. Need to stay in Div 1 next year and build from there. Our neighbours done it, and look at them

Indeed since 2006 a climb from Div 4-1, 2JFCs & 2IFCs. Hope now to kick on, bring the young lads through and start challenging in the senior ranks.  Club has grown massively from the 90s!

There was definitely at least 1 substitution during the added on 4mins if I remember correctly.

I am not an expert by any means however I am aware that users have felt that whoop's steps data and heart rate data is questionable, but sleep data is supposed to be good.  Also whoop does not provide GPS data, heat maps and playing stats (total distance, high paced running data, max speed data, player load, etc) for during games. If these are the sort of things you're wanting insight into then whoop wouldn't be my choice.
In order to get GPS for say an outdoor run you need your phone as well for location...you may aswell just use strava!
Whoop has no screen so real-time feedback isn't really going to be available.
Whoop good for tracking your wellness, body stress and recovery, etc but not so good for match data analysis or real time feedback.

Quote from: Targetman on January 14, 2025, 11:12:39 PMFrom a Down perspective its been another poor year for schools at senior level, Abbey and Colmans beat in 1/4 finals of Mc Rory and Red High and St Malachys the same in Mc Larnon, its not looking great for future!!

Another very disappointing year for our schools. Plans afoot I see to send GDO's into our secondary schools. This is a move in the right direction. Just thinking as well. We've one Ulster MFC title in the past 36 years and that was in 1999.

Knock and Aquinas served up a tight game of football in the Quarter Final yesterday.  There's plenty of work being done by the schools and local clubs for sure.

Aren't Craigbane a relatively small club who lost the Intermediate relegation play off last year?
No club wants relegation from senior to intermediate or intermediate to junior.  Good enough to be in their division but not good enough to avoid relegation from championship (the previous season) - that's basically how these stronger teams end up in the tail end of provincial championships surely?

I would think Laverty didn't want any risk of going down to 14 men permanently.  James Guinness was also subbed as was on a yellow following a ridiculous booking.

I cannot understand the league restructuring.  Many other counties have been trying to get less teams in the leagues in order to make them as competitive as possible.

Anyone on the board suffer from Plantar fasciitis currently or in the past? I have been battling it for a few years, can be brutal in the morning after an evening run or training session the night before,I blame work boots 40 hours a week and a lot of years tramping about a gaa field.
Anyone see a specialist about it or get treatment? I did 4x£50 sessions a few years ago with a specialist that just held a small device that sent shockwaves into my heel for ten mins, didn't help at all and cost a fortune lol

Yeah i had it pretty bad about 3 seasons ago.  The first few steps of the day were brutal painful and warming up for training was always sore but then I would be fine playing but the pain would return again after.   The thing that made the most difference to me was getting a pair of insoles and I wore them in all my shoes (but not my football boots).  I was advised not to shell out on pricey customised ones and I just bought Dr Sholl orthaheel sports insoles (quite tough, not gel like).  They take a bit of getting used to and the impact is not immediate but after a few weeks the pain was less and after a couple of months I was pain free.  Dunno if you jog but I'd give that a miss for a few weeks.

Good luck.

The majority of the games that didnt take place last season were in the Reserve 2 and 1 leagues.  IMO those leagues should have stayed East and South Down.  Possibly go all county for say an additional All-county league cup final.

The 2 Premier Reserve Leagues are highly competitive and Premier 1 is an excellent standard.  Most players at this level should be willing to travel All-County.
