General discussion / Re: The IRISH RUGBY thread

Quote from: Dag Dog on October 18, 2025, 08:26:57 PMThe debate for Crowley at 10 has been settled beyond any doubt.
Only 2 of those Munster 23 players are in the Ireland squad. Time for Farrell to pick the team based on merit and not what the South Dublin rugby writers tell him.

P.S. Leo Cullen is doing a great job, leave him there!
To be fair - that was a one off game.
Leinster have been streets ahead of Munster for years.
One result in a run of the mill league fixture isn't going to suddenly convince Farrell to make wholesale changes in personnel.
The likelihood is still that Leinster are going to be a big contender for the Champions Cup whereas Munster won't be.

Corofin getting their holes handed to them by Salthill tonight.
With the talent at their disposal - a performance like this has been a long time coming.

Those f**king stupid lists drive me insane. Any aul gobshite can write up a list ffs. Years back the Indo used to be decent. Since Breheny has been there it's gone really downhill. He's laughably bad

Wonder if he will be given the road or will there be any protests at his next club game.
Well that was common knowledge in Mayo in the lead up to the intermediate final against Ballinderry. Club tried to keep it quiet

Kerry were just aweosme yesterday - right from the throw in. The ten point margin didn't flatter them one bit.
Did anyone else notice that the Donegal forwards weren't in position when the ball was thrown in at the start?
They were jogging into position when the ref threw the ball in - that to me contributed to Gavin White getting onto that first ball. His marker had his back to the play when it was thrown in because he was still just getting into position.
Only a small thing but unusual in such a big game.

Quote from: tbrick18 on July 16, 2025, 01:48:00 PMSo summer holiday plans have been cancelled as one of the kids broke his wrist at football.
Planning now to head away Halloween week during mid-term. Having not travelled for winter-sun before, any recommendations for a family with a mix of young and teenage kids? Preferably with a bit of heat and that hasn't closed down for the winter.
Haven't been myself but know somebody who goes to Puerto Mogan in the Canaries for some winter sun every year and highly recommends it.
They stay at the Cordial Mogan Playa hotel. It looks lovely and the town is nearby with lots of restaurants. Think we are going to give it a try ourselves. We were in Dubai last year also - it was lovely. Loads of things to do

Quote from: J70 on June 30, 2025, 10:57:41 AMI don't get the dismissals of Meath here. Even if you grant that Dublin were poor and Kerry already through, does their display against Galway not buy them any credibility going into this match, especially having seen the number Monaghan did on Patton for the last 10 minutes of the first half?
I have been at every Galway championship game this year apart from New York.
Genuinely, Roscommon at home was the only time we put in any semblance of a consistent performance & Roscommon were atrocious. If we somehow scraped through yesterday - ye would have beaten us out the gate.
The reality is Galway this year just weren't at it - so I wouldn't be judging any team on beating us.
Donegal are on a completely different level to the likes of Galway and Meath this year in my opinion.
This isn't sour grapes from yesterday either by the way - Meath more than deserved the win.

We won't get one.
Matthew Thompson the only Galway player who has really been consistently up to standard this year.
Think we'd have needed to make a semi final for him to realistically be in the running for one.

Congrats to Meath. We were terrible.
Meath would not have been flattered by an 8 or 9 point win.
We haven't adapted our attacking play for the new rules at all.

Quote from: Estimator on June 29, 2025, 03:26:49 PMHow did Galway let them get the short kick away on that last play? Complete switch off.
Molloy the dope left Finnerty with a 2 v 1 in the corner.

The Connaught Telegraph has learned that the management team declined the offer to resign which had been made on a number of occasions since the defeat to Donegal in the final group match of the All-Ireland FC series.

This forced the committee members into a position where it could not let the matter drag on indefinitely in their pursuit of a new manager.

It is obvious the executive committee has a clear strategy in mind and an appointment could be made sooner than expected in order to avoid ongoing speculation.
Surely they won't go to Horan for a third time?

Quote from: Aaron Boone on June 26, 2025, 12:36:38 AMGalway must be close to empty at this stage. Miles and years on the clock is a tough combination.
Always better to avoid that preliminary round.

Can Galway take anything away from their form in the second half of games this year? Armagh, Derry and the first half against Down they hit that purple patch..

Beating Meath would give them a period to get back at it again
The biggest issue I see for Galway at the moment is that we are absolutely haemorrhaging scores. Teams are opening us up at will.
This could be exposed even further in Croker.
I was at the league game against Dublin there earlier in the year and they waltzed through us time and again.
They could have had another 3 or 4 goals that night.
That's the biggest problem we have right now.

Maybe want a conplete break and start afresh.  A team in definate transition.
Well I think they will see it as they haven't really made progress in McStay's three year term so change was needed.
If I was a Mayo supporter I would want a change of manager. Lots of young talent coming through to work with over the next three years
