Its only human nature, we all take comfort from being part of a tribe or community. Plenty of us are able to laugh off the bigots on " our side" and it only takes a few to stir the shite.
So nobody breaks ranks for fear of being labelled this, that or the other and be cast to the wilderness.
Pathetic really, and very well curated by our political advocates as it is the mainstay of their survival.

A troubled soul who hopefully might cop himself on in time. People like this are sadly almost always a product of their environment, not that that is an excuse for at some stage or another you have to own your own shit.

Antrim / Re: Antrim Hurling

Yes its certainly looking pretty grim for us, after yesterdays performance its hard to see us turning a corner any time soon. We are no more up against it than any other club so cant really make any excuses.  As for our reserves, 80% probably never train so we should never have elected to play D3.

Quote from: Antrim Coaster on May 26, 2025, 11:39:47 AMThe general opinion in Tullamore yesterday was that the Offaly match would be Davy's last.

It's obvious that the Davy experiment hasn't worked.

Sambo's article wasn't too far off the mark. Any manager needs to get all his players onside instead of throwing lads under the bus as Davy has done. Antrim could have done with one of those lads yesterday who he ostracised after the Dublin match.

I thought Michael Kennedy gave Offaly that wee bit more, but he was correct when it came to the sending off as television cameras later showed.

I don't think the lad O'Connor is county standard, and his stupidity cost Antrim yesterday.

If Antrim had the 15 players on the pitch Id say they would have won and Offaly deployed their extra man in and around the half back line which Antrim had difficulty bypassing, especially in the second half when Antrim played their best hurling of the year. It was do or die at that stage.

Paddy Burke and Stephen Rooney in the full back line, Conor Boyd, Big Joe and Conor Bohill in the half backs were immense. Scott Walsh played a blinder, James McNaughton his usual excellent performance and Gerard Walsh fairly came into it in the second half.

However, Id question why Ryan McCambridge was deployed at full forward in the first half - his strength is in around midfield / half forward and why Eoghan Campbell was playing in the full forward line. Lads played out of position.

If Derry win the Christy Ring next week, there'll be 3 Ulster teams in next seasons Joe McDonagh.

Regards the next Antrim manager, Eddie Brennan's name has been mentioned. He hasn't been involved with a county since he was thrown under the bus by Wooly on his podcast.

Obviously, Mickey McShane will be in pole position. If he gets the job, Antrim will need to look at the U20 set up to continue the work that Mickey has begun at that age group.

Couldn't agree less with your take on NO'C. He is full of potential if he was allowed to realise it. Potentially fcuked up yesterday, I didn't see it first hand but as level a headed young lad you wouldn't find. Big Joe gets the headlines in our club but Niall is a way more consistent performer.

General discussion / Re: Giving up alcohol

Stopped eating garbage about 4 years ago and while I have no idea if there is a connection, over time I am less inclined to want to drink as much as I used to. If I open a bottle of wine with the dinner more often than not it won't be finished(previously unheard of). If I pour a glass of whiskey, 1 maybe 2 will do me. Don't feel short changed at all.
As for the alcohol free stuff, I havent found anything worth the money yet. Its either watery slightly beer flavoured or syruppy sweet almost shandy like.

Quote from: Rossfan on March 24, 2025, 04:16:34 PMIn the GE in November, the fascist parties got no more than 2%.
I presume PBP would be l considered "far left",- I can't recall their vote but it can't have been much more than 2% also.
The extremes may be big on social media cesspits but not in the real world.
100%, Social media and the media in general and indeed weak political leadership are great at creating the illusion that the extremes are in any way relevant.
Nothing to see, back to work.

Why not just delete X, you will be happier! Leave all the crazy Far Left and Right crazies to it. You are fuelling fringe views by lamenting about it. If our political leaders are worth their salt the centre ground will soon dominate the discourse and fringes become irrelevant again. At least thats the way its supposed to work. Any leadership material coming through the ranks?

If you scratch the surface you can easily see why everything is fcuked this side of the Atlantic as well. Corporate interest always calls the tune.

You need a good mechanic to diagnose what has caused the failure, could be a dodgy sensor, vacuum problem, injector issue. Modern diesels are getting to be hardly worth the bother.

Get the Algae in Lough Neagh sorted as well. A start would be to cancel Edwin poots crazy limit of 15% max fine for farmers who are repeat offenders.
Big boy politics needed here now but neither DUP or SF are prepared to do it as they are not popular and perceived as potential vote losing.
Same with water charges. We should all pay for our water here. Massive under investment over the decades is now coming back to bite us all with no housing allowed in most towns due to the sewerage system being at capacity.
50% of new cars purchased here are DLA...if that doesn't sum up how dysfunctional this place is then I don't know what is. A serious look under the bonnet there is required.
A nominal £2 charge for a prescription would also eliminate unnecessary doctor and a&e visits.
But again, none of these would be introduced as there would be too much of a backlash. We want everything for nothing in this place.

I would not be surprised that in certain parts of Belfast and Derry is where you find most of the DLA wagons, indeed I think the late Gerry Anderson referred to it as the Derry Living Allowance.  Drive through these same places the retail mix is primarily fast food takeouts, off licenses and pharmacists, a vicious cycle.

Certainly describes Lisburn Road and Ballyhackamore alright.

35% of houses in Belfast don't have a car or van, most of those in perceived less affluent neighbourhoods.

Not in favour of prescription charges, I am in favour of a refundable charge for booking a gp appointment, turn up or get charged. I am in favour of prescription charges, people take the piss with free stuff, homes are full of unused drug presciptions on one hand and too many are over medicated on the other.

Remove the cap on household rates - millionaires getting subsidies, tax derelict buildings, do something with your buildings or donate it to the state. +1

The difficult issue of the worried well (the folk who walk out of one gp appointment and immediately book another one for a month later just in case) needs addressed.Public health education is a clown show, it is invariably based around a fear narrative so this is the response.

Leave the west link alone (well maybe close some of the slip roads) will never be enough roads, volume of cars and vans has gone up 400% in 40 years. All funding and schemes need to be on making it easier to get out of the car on public transport or goods by rail - not by road. Big investment in a user friendly, cost friendly mass transport system is the only thing that will take vehicles off the road. Building more bigger roads will only result in more vehicles, look at the M50.

Belfast and Derry need a congestion charge
on anything over a 1.2L engine air quality is brutal and it's city folk breathing it with the long term health costs. Fix public transport first.

Get rid of the transfer test, inflicting misery on wains in a rigged system, political cowardice,  avoid postcode school selection by requiring schools to have a spread of intake, publish school results and ensure schools are not excluding folk at 16 to juice the results. Think there has to be some sort of process to help guide kids to the right school, I would outlaw coaching, pushy parents have to be more realistic. The whole system is a meat grinder where competition for funding takes precedence over the appropriate education of our children.

Stop asking politicians what they are going to do - ask them what they have done, most have a pretty short list of achievements. +1
