Quote from: Truthsayer on August 21, 2025, 05:12:44 PMI remember there was a thing that he couldn't produce the goods in an All Ireland final then one I was at he goaled and had a great game and the Kilkenny crowd chanted DJ DJ.. around the turn of the Century. Also another AI final scored that magnificent point with the sliotar on the end of the hurl and wheeled around to strike it over 50/60 yards at Canal End.
Check out who the opposition were and how one-sided the matches were. It's easy run up score in these situations. He was piss poor when the chips were down against a better class of opposition.

Brolly said same of Gooch. DJ wasn't piss poor.. 9 All Stars confirms that.
He was piss poor in All Irelands where Kilkenny needed a performance out of him in a tight game.

As much as I want him to be ripped apart the guy wasn't piss poor.

You're being stupid now
I gave examples of 3 All Irelands against Cork where he didn't score and he definitely wasn't laying on scores for other players.
He didn't match his reputation. Probably not his fault he was being over hyped.

Quote from: Bord na Mona man on August 20, 2025, 03:06:54 PMWhen the Millennium team was picked in 1999 there had been a growing suspicion that Carey was a player who could rack up scores against weaker teams in less consequential matches, but didn't deliver in tight, crunch matches.

It wasn't without foundation either, he'd been just held scoreless from play in both the 1998 and 1999 All Ireland finals when Kilkenny lost narrowly.
1999 All Ireland Final vs Cork - DJ scored 0-0
2003 All Ireland Final vs Cork - DJ scored 0-0
2004 All Ireland Final vs Cork - DJ scored 0-0

I think we're seeing a trend my friends.
How would DJ have gotten on if Kilkenny had to play in Munster Championship during his career?

Quote from: tiempo on June 30, 2025, 12:12:29 PMWas hard going for the Tyrone Dublin game with Padraig "if they get their running game going they'll be hard to stop" O'Hora and Dave "untold damage" McIntyre
McIntyre sounds like someone is holding a hot poker close to him. At vital moments, they press it against him.

Getting rid of a dinosaur like Colm O'Rourke is worth 10 Tailteann Cups for Meath.

Taking time keeping away from the ref would have seen Cork win the 2013 All Ireland. Brian Gavin kept playing until Clare equalised.  :o

Quote from: J70 on June 30, 2025, 10:57:41 AMI don't get the dismissals of Meath here. Even if you grant that Dublin were poor and Kerry already through, does their display against Galway not buy them any credibility going into this match, especially having seen the number Monaghan did on Patton for the last 10 minutes of the first half?
Galway had injury problems, were misfiring at stages and were still unlucky not to win.

Meath are in bonus territory now. I can't see them having much chance.

Probably. They beat an Armagh team that gave up fairly easily when the chips were down.

That was one of my big disappointments yesterday. Not sure we gave up but we definitely capitulated
the hunger is never the same when the All Ireland medal is already in the back pocket.

Would it be a big surprise? Tipp are playing themselves into form. Kilkenny played in a very weak Leinster and have had no test yet.

Quote from: Smokin Joe on June 16, 2025, 10:45:51 PM2023 All Ireland final Kerry are in possession and the ref gave a free to Kerry on the 14 for off the ball fouling on Clifford.
He went in and spoke to the umpire, and he then changed his mind and instead hopped the ball after yellow carding both him and Fitzsimmons.  As always, I guess the application of the rules are up to the ref on any given day.
Usually it's the other way around. The referee accidentally whistles against Clifford, realises his mistake and sends off the other fella.

Quote from: LC on June 17, 2025, 09:43:11 AMCan you imagine a journalist in Kerry making reference to civil war in the context of who would be starting for the Kerry team in their next match.
Wasn't there a civil war in Kerry when Paidi called them animals?
