GAA Discussion / Re: NFL Division 1

It was fascinating to hear the experts discuss genius Jim's amazing new tactic of starving the Kerry forwards of possession.50 years this was the tactic in every club game all over Ireland .It was basic simple logic that if you won the ball around midfield the opposing team didn't have it to supply their forwards. Where would we be without Jim teaching us all how to play football eh?

The FRC brought in the new rules as attendances were dropping all over the country. Teams like Down don't have the players capable of playing Gaelic football so the management devise tactics to help them win matches..tactics that make the game almost unwatchable. Watching players kicking 2 pointers  with not a defender near them is becoming boring now. The novelty will wear off and attendances will begin to drop again.

Were are always told how Gaelic players train like professionals so what the problem? there are long periods in games when players are only walking around or jogging around  doing nothing really anyway.

Hows about 14 kickers? Then they could call themselves footballers?

Would you agree that Croke Park is a Gaa stronghold when the fans are there? Just watching the Sunday game and they said the crowd were booing during the Down match so yes it was that bad

Soccer games have more intensity yet they play every week so I don't buy that.

Meath Kerry Mayp and Roscommon are the only teams worth watching. Great to watch while the rest are really not worth looking at. Such is the awful state of our game.

Will be bad news for football if Donegal win the All Ireland this year. Handpass after handpass.. It's really boring.

I was in a bar in a Gaa stronghold in Down on Saturday evening to watch this match. There was a good crowd in and a grand total of 2 people were watching the match on tv. I went into a different bar to watch the second half. This bar is owned by a GAA club and is always frequented by current and former players. There was a good crowd in this one too and I observed 4 people watching the match on tv and only sporadically. Last Thursday this same bar was packed with people in to watch the Ireland match.
This is how entertaining people find this shite that we call gaelic football.

As highlighted in a clip on Sunday night....at one stage in the Tyrone Cavan game there were 11 Cavan players inside the arc shuffling about but doing nothing really while Tyrone players shuffled about outside the arc handpassing across and back until one has a shot. We see this every week in games and it's becoming boring by now.

To reduce the number of 2 pointers being scored I suggest defenders actually mark closer and not allow so many free shots.Defending man on man was a part of the game for aa hundred years. It doesnt require any new innovations from our well paid coaches. Defending was a  basic skill taught to underage players for generations. Not this generation however. Its much too simple of course for our modern coaches..
