I was lucky enough to see the great Down team of the 1960's playing several times and they were an outstanding team by any standards.  I have given my vote to Sean O'Neill, but would also give a very favourable mention to Paddy Doherty.

I can not see how any one with an interest in the GAA should suggest that Bloody Sunday should not be remembered.  To suggest that no one knew who Michael Hogan was until the film starring Liam Neeson was made is complete nonsense.  The Hogan Stand in Croke Park ensures that his name will always be remembered.   It is a part of our history, that British forces turned their guns on the players and crowd at a football match between Tipperary and Dublin.  I can assure Cville that everyone in Tipperary is well aware of what happened that day.  That is why for me, there is a special feel in Croke Park, when Tipperary footballers play there and I think that all genuine GAA followers feel the same, when they watch their own county playing there.  That feeling will always be there no matter how many soccer or rugby internationals are played there.  Croke Park on a big GAA day will always be special.

There are many teams who won All Irelands, with no one on the team having an All Ireland in any grade, but Tipperary in 1920 would not be one of those teams as a few players on the team that won the 1920 All Ireland were on the team that won the first All Ireland Junior Football Championship in 1912, including famous players of the Bloody Sunday game - Ned O'Shea and Jerry Shelly.

Seamus Durack was an outstanding goalkeeper, but when did he win his 2 All Ireland medals?.

Pat McLoughney, the Tipperary hurling goalkeeper won All Stars in 1979 and 1980, but he never played on a winning team in a Championship match.  I do'nt know where he could have won 2 All Ireland medals, maybe Inter-Firm or Masters, but that would be stretching it a bit, as regards winning 2 All Ireland medals.

I am sure that Mickey Kearns probably played Railway Cup football in Croke Park.

I doubt if the GPA are considering running General Election candidates.  I would not take that article too seriously.  It really is the 'silly season' as far as some journalists are concerned.  I suppose it is easier to write that kind of an article than make an informed comment on the Provincial Club Championships.

Interesting to note that the only clubs to beat the favourites in all this week's provincial club championships were St. Brigid's (Roscommon) and Aherlow (Tipperary).    Can St. Brigid's do it again in the Connacht Final?.  Looks unlikely, but Aherlow should be good enough to reach the Munster Final.
