AIDAN,

Top class stuff there.

I understand that Meath feel hard done by in 1991, but Down's team was very physical down the middle with Conor Deegan, Barry Breen, Greg Blaney and Peter Withnell. So i thought that on the day that Down deserved to win. I know that 1991 is remembered for 4 games between Meath and Dublin.

Down team of 1968 was very young team and should have won another All Ireland.

Down team of 60 and 61 was beaten by Caven in 1962. Peter Prichard scored 2 goals that day and according to number of Caven supporters, that all he did, never played well  for Caven since.

Aidan
you are top man on this gaaboard.

Not surprised with same selection for Down's game against Wexford, after all they are winning their games. I noticed that the final of Scor is on Sunday meaning lots of Down supporters will not be albe to attend. The match is live on

Congratulation to BBC for showing all 8 Ulster Senior Chamionship games live this year, this is brilliant news for a number of GAA fans who are unable to travel to games especially the older people.

In 1964, Mayobridge fold with lack of manpower. Tom O'Hare who play his first game for Down in 1962 at Centre Half Forward against Rest of Ulster has join Clonduff in 1965 with Francis Coulter (Benny's father). Francis Gallagher RIP also joined Burren in same year. In 1967, All three came back to Bridge to play in  Intermediate league. At that time Bridge, Burren and Warrenpoint were all in same parish named Clonallen.
In 1965 Down Senior Club final, Castlewelllan beat Clonduff with Tom O'Hare and Francis Coulter. also in that team, Pasty O'Hagan, brilliant young Dalsey Mooney, Stepehn Morgan, Dessie Monaghan and Mickey John McConville. Francis Coulter  was known so scored more goals than points. Benny is not as deadly finisher as his father was!!
In 1966, Burren with Francis Gallagher at midfield won replay wth a low 2.02 against Kilwarlin 0.06.
No way that BIG TOM O'HARE played for Burren.
By the way, Tom display in 1968 All Ireland semi-final against Galway (who have won 3 in a row 64, 65 and 66) was best performance I ever seen

Down could win both games against UUJ and Donegal and win by more than 4 points in each game, they are through to Semi final!!!!

Regarding Down no 1 goalkeeper.
I remember Eddie Mckay playing and he was well protected by fabulous
full back line in George Laverty, Leo Murphy and Pat Rice. Leo was always in around the goalmouth and given great protection to goalie. Leo also took all kickout.
Today goalkeepers can be isolated when the full backs roam outfield.
I still go for Neil Collins for his performances in winning 2 Sam Maguire.
