If the terms are right-YES

Full back,
But, if it's a National Stadium, then the three major sporting organisations will have equal call on it, therefore gaelic games will be denied use when they might otherwise have had free reign, therefore how could the terms ever be right in such a circumstance?

No, and can the professionals please stop begging off the amateurs!

Inverdale's not the worst, testimony to which was his wholehearted and unprejudiced embracing of the whole Gaelic Games culture as introduced to him by Jarlath Burns some years back.

I would worry, however, about who he's being used by to push their own narrow agenda through here:
Quote...Croke Park behind, it may be a bit like going to the local corner shop rather than Asda...something of a come-down to return in future to a much smaller venue for such a big occasion.

This smacks of lobbyism, and the fact that it appears in an English journal is neither here nor there; might as well have been printed in Dublin these days for all that will see it.

Unfortunately, the opening of Croke does indeed appear to be the thin edge of a particularly obese and much-sated wedge, but through all of this, the absolute line from which the GAA can never deviate is that NO gaelic game should have to make way in any way for a non-gaelic sport.  Compromising of the Assocation and its values must be resisted at all costs, despite the (growing) pressure from whatever angle (usual suspects here).

If the principle of primacy for gaelic games is undermined, then the soul of this organisation has truly been sold, and can never be bought back.

From a horse's mouth: some north Tipp gombeens (west brits) starting taunting the Tyrone lads with gstq on the Saturday night (apologies tones81), and the lads went over and sorted them.

Worse has happened, and we'll get over it.
please stop making excuses for tyrone thuggery on and off the field

You're a sad individual, and anything but a true Gael!

not surprised to hear about tyrone thugs ruining a wedding party
they wont keep this quiet
what about the time they caused thousands of pounds of damage in a hotel in england three years ago?

I see your high reputation on this board is particularly well merited!

is it true that mickey harte hada get out of his bed at 6am on sunday morning 2 take sum tyrone players out of a wedding they were fighting at???

Hardly Sunday morning, they didn't leave Cork until almost 10 pm on Saturday evening (saw the bus go), and they stayed in Cashel on Saturday night. Would explain a lot, but are we desperately clutching at straws, however tenuous, to explain that performance, or lack thereof?

yes and if mickey harte went to bed at 11.30 sat nite and was waken up at 6am the next morning... what morning would this be????????

How many hours from Cork City to Tyrone (and they didn't stay in Tipp on Saturday night)?  :o

Big win on Saturday for Tyrone under 21s against mayo l;ast years all ireland champions.  Even Damian Mc caul got on the scoring a goal form corner back.  Looks good for the lads this year.

What was the score RRHF? Ran the Mayo U21s very close last year in the AI semi, unlucky after extra time.

I agree recall06, that was not the game and this is not the time for mass recriminations -- there was a general malaise (for whatever reason) that afflicted just about everyone. Let's leave the post-mortem to the Donegal game, if the lads can't produce for that one then it'll be time for some serious circumspection.

fear, are you the same guy that used to post on the hogan stand??

Yes Bensars, one and the same, though I've been banned from posting there for being too grown-up and sensible!  :)

Seriously though, the administrators/editor (or Kindergarten Kops) on hoganstand.com are not interested in serious discusssion or debate; they prefer the mudslinging and playground-level antics, despite claims to the contrary. Neutral posts of mine were often withheld, but were I to have a go at another poster, then they posted it. All very childish.

GAA Discussion / Tyrone vs Donegal NFL

After a dogged and determined (and well deserved) win for Donegal today against the Dubs, and a tame performance from ourselves in our capitulation against Cork last night, the stage is now set for the Omagh showdown in two weeks -- Donegal looking for Mc Kenna Cup revenge, and ourselves looking to rebound emphatically.

Should be an interesting tie!

Someone mentioned that Tyrone drove to Cork this morning. This would explain a lot, as they looked wrecked.

Credit to Cork though. Masters and Shieds especially.

You're right that it looked like they drove down yesterday (Saturday), extremely jaded performance, and not one to judge individual performances by (IMHO), however, they stayed in Cashel on Friday night (could have gone a little closer to Cork). Justin Mc Mahon was encouraging with his intelligent use of the ball.

All credit to Cork though, outstanding full back in Shiels, and Masters created all sorts of problems. If they could play against Kerry with such spirit, determination and self-belief then they would have done a lot better at the business end of the Championship over the last few years. No complaints with the result.

QuoteFear your missing the big picture, why bring religion into the equation in the first place!!!
Jezuz I hope Brennan is laying in his nice soft comfortable bed now regreting what he said - but I doubt it!!  ::)

Yes, I wish religion weren't a factor here. But, unfortunately, whilst England circumscribes the boundary of the Irish, north or south, religion will play a role, because it's the only card they have to play to divide us. Though unionism is the more relevant term.

Let it be their last, and soon.
Sláinte.

...But we don't want a situation in the GAA like the one that prevails in Irish League soccer in the North, where practically every club is either catholic or protestant (in terms of suppport at any rate) and the attendant chaos, sectarian bravado, rioting that goes with this when certain clubs clash

Agreed Tony, that is certainly what we neither want nor need. But, I don't believe that's what would evolve, in the medium term. Yes, of practical necessity initially we may have teams comprising only unionists, but in so doing the unionists en sporting bloc will have crossed such a rubicon of recognition (of an all-Ireland organisation) such as to render any segregation on something as ultimately insignificant as religion completely inconsequential, i.e., religion itself will have been emphatically demoted in the order of things, where their primary preoccupation will be to flourish as a GAA team.

In such a scenario, political persuasion won't even come into it (though admittedly we're some way away from that yet).
