Would be a big fan of Galvin. Every good team needs a prickly character like him or Mcmenamin, but the lad has ability as well. However he crossed a line on Sunday and it has to be punished appropriately. Its irrelevant that he was wronged maybe in the first instance. We could all have used that defence in our playing days but that is no defence. Once his hand went near the ref there can only be one outcome.

"Not much odd's who they meet next, they won't go too far"
That was exactly what was said in the Marshes in May /June 1991, by hundreds including myself and look what happened.
Tyrone are far from a spent force and  Down have not won anything yet. It was a great tie and could just have easily gone either way. There is no arrogance with Down as yet just an increasing air of expectation and hope that has been missing for a while.
I can only hope we go a bit further and there is no reason to fear Armagh, but yes give them due respect.
We have gone further already than the many detractors said we would  only 5/6 weeks ago.Cannot see many apologies from those calling for the heads of ross & DJ at the end of the league

Its a non contest this one. Derry/ Down by a country mile.
Great midfield play, great scores, intensity and tackling at the highest level, great players at the peak of their powers with everything at stake, consistency on the scoreboard i.e. no team pulled away from the other, controversy, mistakes the game had absolutely everything you could want in a football match but what marks it out from other Ulster Championship games was the fact it was between the 2 teams that had won the last 2 All Irelands and were undoubtedly the 2 best teams in Ireland at the time slogging it out on a warm day where blanket defence wasn't even thought about. A proper battle and show that match to anyone who hadn't watched GAA before and they would be hooked!
to attempt to surpass the summary above would be impossible.
Kildare Meath was also a cracker.

Who's the ex-Saul player No1? I heard there was talk of Donnie Ritchie moving down your way.

Shows some ambition for someone who was being touted for the county last year even though he's living in DPK!!!!

Donnan lives in annacloy although he is going with a girl from strangford

lives in Russell Park and has done so for a long time

I'd just like to clear something up.  Donie has moved to Strangford.

As for the jibe about ambition, I take it the implication is that the RGU would be a much better prospect for any ambitious player, what a load of balls.

Although the RGU stuffed us, the standard on view last Friday night would suggest that both teams are going nowhere fast.  Much of a muchness in my view.  Don't let your arrogance cloud your judgement though.

So what exactly is the criteria for transfers within the county these days i remember the furore when wee james found a caravan in burren, so what is it these days find a woman take her address and play for her club talk about pus*y whipped.
Donnie should go to dpk and at least get a crack at the senior championship, kilclief are going nowhere fast no minors coming through and typically infighting about training and favorites getting picked to start. lets face it no matter where donnie goes he will always be an outsider and with his temper will throw the head up pretty quick.
#
There is no point saying donnie should go to DPK/Teconnet or wherever if he has no desire to do so and it would be churlish of these clubs to stand in the way of a transfer just for the sake of it even if it brings the parish/community aspect of the association to the level of local soccer leagues where guys hawk their services round the place season by season.
Why would clubs who are nurturing their own youth teams properly, bring in someone whose heart may or may not be 100% in the club with the result the up and coming players who have a long term future get pissed off

Might be tough to expect McGuigan to play 2 tough championship games in 6 days but I definately think yesterdays game should bring him on. He showed his old class for the 1st goal and Id be hopeful with that game yesterday behind him he'll be more involved next week. Wouldnt mind seeing McCaul take Hartes place at right half back. Any word if its all ticket? Newry wont be easy to get in or out of next Saturday night. I thought the support favoured Tyrone by about 70-30 yesterday and would expect the opposite for the next game.

Definitely all ticket and there's a chance it might not be on TV. Newry is nightmare location for a match.
Newry certainly is not ideal to get away from, but Omagh was a nightmare yesterday. Did not get away from carpark in centre of town until past half six despite getting back to car immediately after match.

I dont think anyone is really taken in these days by the injury scares that come out of the various camps at this stage of the championship.
won't be surprised to see OM or TMcG playing or evn starting on 8th June

Lads we cant really criticize a team for winning playing negitive rugby, as a leinster fan I would have had no problem with leinster winning like that if it was required, i do believe that munster could have expanded their game and still won but I've played many a game where we are camped on the try for 10mins and there was not a hope in hell we would trust the backs with the ball, forwards rugby is still rugby and can be beautiful too if you know the rules. People say toulouse didnt have the ball in the last 15mins, if i recall correctly they had it 3 times and got turned over each time.

I think fair play to munster on winning this competion and there should be some great craic in the inter - pros next season.

(also on negetive play, if Nordie teams didnt play negative football non of them would never have won an All Ireland ;) )
I dont see how the last line stands up given the way Down have played to win 5 All Irelands, nor Donegal or Derry.
Tyrone did play quite an expansive game up until the All Ireland SF in their 2003?
Allied to this Down/ Derry 1st round Ulster SFC game in 1994 still goes down by many purists as one of the most outstanding games ever.
That said there was absolutely nothing wrong with the way Munstar triumphed on Sat

Just got my reply robert...

Dear Mr ******

I'm replying to your recent complaint about the BBC's coverage of Gaelic
games.

Our programming in this area, whilst extensive, is also affected by the
cost/availability of broadcast rights and wider budgetary constraints
within the BBC. GAA fixtures are an important element of our sports output
however, and we are aware of their popularity with local audiences.  Our
current GAA coverage extends across radio, television and online and
includes Ulster Championship matches, the McCrory Cup, the National
Football and Hurling Leagues, the Sigerson Cup and the All Ireland
Championship (when Ulster teams are involved). TG4 holds the television
rights for live club fixtures, but we do show club highlights on BBC
Newsline. Contractual issues mean that we can only cover games involving
the Ulster teams at All Ireland stage on BBC radio. We do however, provide
live radio match commentaries from National League fixtures and our
dedicated coverage of Gaelic games on Sunday Sportsound is complemented by
results and match analysis as part BBC Radio Ulster's 18.00 news bulletin
on Sunday afternoons and within the following day's Good Morning Ulster.
GAA fixtures, stories and personalities are also featured within other
aspects of BBCNI's output, including Season Ticket on local television, BBC
Newsline, Final Score, Saturday Sportsound and as an element of our online
sports offering.

BBCNI wants to maximise the reach, impact and relevance of its sports
programming. We are currently involved in detailed negotiations with the
GAA's Central Council in relation to broadcast rights for Gaelic games over
the next 3yrs. If our application is successful we would hope to
significantly increase the volume of live Gaelic Football coverage on BBCNI
television from 08/09 onwards.

Funding constraints have affected all our sports programming on local radio
(including soccer, motorcycling and rugby) and BBC output in this area will
always involve difficult editorial decisions about priorities (both
scheduling and financial) and the need to balance/reflect different
sporting interests and activities. In all of this we will wish to take
careful account of audience feedback and research. The cost of rights for
sporting events can present a real challenge however, and the marketplace
has become (and will likely remain) intensely competitive. Despite such
difficulties, we continue to take pride in the volume, range and quality of
our GAA coverage. BBCNI's commitments in this area compare favourably with
its programming about other sports, including soccer and rugby, and we
remain hopeful that our GAA coverage on local television might be enhanced
over time subject to the successful conclusion of discussions with the
Central Council.

I'm grateful for your interest in our sports output and have shared your
concerns with relevant management colleagues within BBCNI.

Yours sincerely

Shane Glynn

Was Magic not with Kilclief previously?  Does he live near Loughinislland?  I suppose this minor detail never stopped any player transferring to Loughinisland before.

My understanding is that players who are not provided football  by their own club are entitled to go to any club of their choice.I think  there is  already a precedent in Down on this issue,as the Trainors of Portaferry play Football for Downpatrick ,despite the fact that both Kilclief and Saul are closer to the Ards.

The Trainors from Portaferry do play for RGU but there is at least a family link there in that their mother is Oakes a sister of Pat ( Phillip ans Karls Dad) and a sister of Ann ( Conor, Gerard and Gregory Deegans mum).

I wonder through all this if Teconnaught are squirming uncomfortably as a result of their no-show for the final game that ended up setting up a playoff in the first place!!

It might just come back to bite them in the ass later when this debacle is all done and dusted!!

On the league restructuring - is there a chance that the CB would try to roll in a 3 division league for 2008 rather than waiting a year(from vote in November) in order to cover some of the embarrassment around the Div 3 situation. I'd guess a lot more people would react if that were to happen.

You know, it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest!

This cannot happen as the only options on the table are the one circulated last month or the staus quo. No new options will be considered.
