General discussion / The 26 County Lisbon Treaty Poll
September 30, 2009, 12:24:20 AM
Hey folks. I was just wondering how the Poll would go if it where restricted to Residents of the 26 Counties only.

No insult to the 6 county lads but your views tend not to be very representative to the mood of the 26.

Can't get into Dean Koontz but those who like him, love his stuff.

QuoteYou are of purest Gaelic blood?

I imagine not, who is? Whatever blood I have and whereever those ancestors came from, I now identify with Ireland and not the places they came from.

QuoteI am British first and foremost with the distinction of beng born in Ireland from a line of people born in Ireland dating back hundreds of years and am proud to be Irish.

Stop talking nonsense, if you are proud to be Irish then how could you be British first and foremost.

Because they are not mutually exclusive identities and you can therefore value one identity as having more significance to you than the other should you so wish.

Mutually exclusive identities-Such shite. Proud to be Irish but British first and foremost. Confused or what?
Ireland is a British isle whether you like it or not and you don't have to be born on the island of Great Britain to be British.  The President of the Republic of Ireland is also on  record as stating that the two aren't mutually exclusive.

Even more confused than I thought. You are British, and fair play to ya. British people have a long ancestral trail on the Island of Ireland. Irish however,You are not.
A case of 'people who think like me got here before you so we're the real Irish'? Who was here before you? Talk about a dinasauric view of identity.  I thought unionists were meant to be the backward lookers.

Most historians agree that the Vikings where the first Invasion that did not try to assimilate when they arrived, however they and the Old English figured it out after a generation or two, but from the Tudors on the visitors couldn't learn to behave properly in someone elses house.

Just as you don't have to be born in Germany to be German.

Ireland will be around when Londonderry, the OO and the whole sad sick sectarian NI province will be viewed in the same light as East Germany and Biafra.
Rightyho.

Meanwhile, I hope you and your family make the most of your life.

Your right there, I can't see full Irish Independence for at least another 25 years at the earliest.
In your dreams will it be fully independent or actually dependent on an even bigger place than the UK ie Europe?

To be honest I wouldn't mind Ireland of 32 counties being a State within the United Republics of Europe. I would have European Federalist tendancies myself. End a bad Union created by Invasion, War, Slavery, Famine, Sectariansim, Murder, Colonisation, Rape of Culture & Lanuage with a good one. No problem being in the same Union as the Island to our East but seperate states in the same Europe.

Didnt watch the programme as I had to work in my little public sector job. ::)
So the Bankers/FFBuilders and the Fatcats fcuk up the Country and the only way to save it is cut public pay.
The magic figure put about by the gobshites in the Media who are cheerleading for IBEc/ISME etc is a €1Bn reduction.
If they would only stop and think( no that's too much to ask) they would realise that about 65% of that €1bn already goes to the Exchequer(41% tax,10% so called pension levy,2% Income levy,6.5% Superannuation contribution and 5% or 8% PRSI/Health levy).
The remaining 350m is mainly spent on buying goods and services from the Irish private sector. About 110m of that goes back to Govt in VAT and Excise duties.
The remaining 240m maintains how many jobs in shops,hair dressers,pubs,restaurants,garages etc ??? 10,000 ??.
If 10,000 jobs go then Govt loses 50m in PAYE/PRSI/Inc Levy contribs and has to pay out 100m in dole.
So instead of €1,000,000,000 saved the Govt save about €90million.

Aye it's all the public servants' faults alright. ::)

For those public servants out there who don't agree with me, what do you suggest?  How are we to bridge the 20Bn shortfall in our national income?

Ahh thats easy stop all Social Welfare payments being paid to Private Sector works made redundant. Buy a load cheep Ryanair, AerLingus & Ferry tickets and ship us out of the country for good.

That President only has jurisdiction over part of Ireland so that term is inaccurate regardless of what she likes to call herself.

Tell me, will Ireland be around as long as Hibernia  ???

Hibernia, Scottia, Eiru, Eireann, Ireland same place.

No such place as the Republic of Ireland and no such title, she is the President of Ireland.

The British Isles is a Imperalist British term, and Ireland has never been and never will be a British Isle. IRELAND IS IRELAND. It will be around long after the UK as desolved into memory along with the Roman Empire, The Ottoman Empire, The German Reich & The Soviet Union.

Ya we would have a savage set of forwards if he came back, all that would leave would be the backs and midfield to worry about.

We're still here  and will be till the end of time. ;)
I'd be fairly certain of that too. We Irish people will indeed be here  ;)

Come on Roger admit it ye all want to be Irish not British at all, ye just like all that pomp and ceremony. Question Roger when Britain becomes a Republic will they have to change the name to the United Republic? Sure ye might as well join us at that stage.

Well while driving up to the All-Ireland Final this year, the vast majority of houses around Ballagh bewteen Charlestown turn off and Frenchpark seemed to have Green & Red flying. I wonder when the 12 Rossies living in the region will go home to Frenchpark. I do remember 1996 when heading up to the final all the kirbstones in Ballagh where painted Green & Red, a building site in the middle of town painted the boards around the site Green & Red, and the locals erected their own signs a few kilometres East of Ballagh saying Welcome to Roscommon, you are now leaving Mayo & in the opposite direction they had a sign saying welcome to Mayo, if I can recollect the Ros.Co.Co. sign was covered over.

Were Ballaghadereen beat in Roscommon? I thought they were big favorites.

Ballagh is Mayo and always will be, the Mayo Nationalist community are oppressed by the minority Roscommon Loyalist community, only Government buildings fly the butchers apron of Primrose and Blue. All the other buildings fly the Green & Red of Mayo.

I noticed recenty while parked in the town that not alone did MO regs, outnumber the Rossie ones, but the second most common regs in the town where SO of Sligo.

[. Their players also play with Mayo somehting which galls Rossfan and the likes! :D

They have no choice unless they move away and join another club.
It galls Andy Moran too and Hanley who ran off to Oz  to avoid further wearing of the rhubarb. :D

Pearce Hanley: Read what he says in the Australian papers, he has a desire to return someday to play for his club Ballaghadereen and his home county, MAYO.  ;D

Andy Moran seems very happy to be playing for the Glorious Green & Red rather than the Sheepstealers.
