A functional Monaghan team would likely win but we'll have to wait and see if that team turns up.
What are the opinions about Pete McGrath? On the surface it looks like he'd doing well, plenty of victories and some narrow defeats.

If Pete McGrath pulls off a win, it would be a major boost for Fermanagh and his reputation as a manager. Down supporters have massive time for him, leading them to 2 All Irelands. The general consensus also says he hung on too long. The truth is the quality wasn't there in his last few years with Down. Can he turn a gutsy, but limited, Fermanagh squad into Ulster championship contenders? If they get a win over us, yes.

Donegal looking very impressive and look like serious AI contenders, Armagh made to look very poor.

It'll be a major shock if they don't win Ulster based on this.

The winners today will fancy their chances of winning Ulster big time. It's hard to call, especially with Armagh's home advantage.

Donegal's discipline will be severely tested today. If it gets heated, I'd expect Armagh to win; dull it'll be Donegal.

up there with the worst games I've ever watched. Absolutely terrible stuff

Go and cut the grass then.

Down look more likely to score a goal.

That was a ridiculous looking red card.

Logic says it has to be either Cavan or Clones. The handiest for both sets of supporters is Clones. They'd come from opposite directions. Cavan would be a huge bottleneck from Butlers Bridge. Armagh makes no sense.

If we get over this, I think we should be fit to go all the way in Ulster. Big if though.

You Donegal boys are so modest. The AI is a gimme if you get over this one.

MOR seemed nervous ahead of the game, and we weren't playing with confidence. On the hour mark I couldn't see us winning it. Cometh the hour, cometh the man. Dick Clerkin was immense. He went for a difficult point to bring us back to within a point. After being labelled a thug on this board before the match, he gave his answer on the pitch.

Mackey is a Cavan player I'd rate highly. Had he been kept on the bench and brought on in the closing stages, it may very have been a different story. Leaders were absent for Cavan at the crunch stage.

Parallels could be drawn with the Monaghan - Down Ulster semi final a few years ago, when we were well on top throughout and petered out near the end. In that game and in yesterday's, luck had little bearing on the result. We could go on about ref decisions, but it takes leaders to grab the game by the scruff of the neck, which we had yesterday.

Jamie Clarke scored what was arguably goal of the championship in that game. It was a disgraceful decision to disallow it as it put Armagh right back in the match. Again Cavan come out best from poor officiating...

That one aside, my central point however is this: when playing against better footballers, it pays in Gaelic games to resort to spoiling tactics. Work out for yourselves who has the better footballers. For the sake of the game, may they win.

Hopefully we don't have any good goals disallowed like the last championship game between us.

Who are the officials? They have a big responsibility in this one. Previous Cavan posts about taking out marquee players give an indication of how they're thinking ahead of this fixture.

Conor McManus knows what to expect and will be prepared for the bitching, kicking at the heels and the general crap that makes a mockery of the sport. But for sportsmanship to overcome cynicism, the umpires will need to watch out for this and alert the ref to it from the start.

Ooops didn't see this discussed on a thread dedicated to the bias/incompetence on League Sunday....

RTÉ's League Sunday obviously thought the result was a foregone conclusion and didn't bother to record it. Nor did they think the result deserved a mention. They had plenty of negative things to say about Monaghan following our only defeat away to Mayo, while also tipping us for demotion.

They still had time time last night for yet another tribute to Kilkenny's Henry Shefflin.... No doubt with the Dubs coming to Clones they'll show up. The Monaghan squad should tell them to get stuffed.

It was good to be back in Clones. Derry will rue their many misses, Monaghan hadn't as many, but did have a few howlers.

Always felt that Monaghan had another gear if they got close.

Dessie was our best player. Neil McAdam put in a really good first half - never seen him field like that before, definitely playing with more confidence. It was needed, as Darren Hughes had a poor performance by his own standards.

We've taken the Ulster scalps, now to get something from the Kerry and Dublin games...

Would never take a win over Derry for granted and some are carried away thinking this is a banker.

They took big scalps last year, disappointed come championship time, but recently put it up to a wounded Tyrone in Omagh and should have won.

11. Mark Lynch 12. Enda Lynn are the ones to watch.

Firstly very well done Monaghan - we had an off day last week, were rubbished by many and bounced back in difficult circumstances to get the 2 points.

RTE gave scant coverage of the game, on radio and none on TV (despite a tweet saying they would cover it on League Sunday)

The radio commentators more or less said today's was a freak result and that we're heading for demotion along with Derry. We're not given a chance against Kerry or Dublin. We'll get at least 3 points from remaining games.
