Great dig from Johnno there. I'm pleasantly surprised.

Some of us saw this train coming a long way off. This episode has to run its course. Most people see Johnno in 98 and 01 mode with a team in its pomp - a team forged by others. His second coming in Mayo is a continuation of his last years in Galway, when he presided over a team in decay/treading water, and clueless as regards rebuilding. All he did was move over a boarder and depress one of the few things the natives there got excited about. Some good lads on here like Larnaparka are going a bit soft and think that maybe he ll eventually, like a medieval pope, get able young followers that he deserves. That is not going to happen. O Sé on the other hand would get the public interested again and get rid of the suspicion, vindictivness and nanny approach. He d be great craic too. We havent had that here for a long time. We d be more likely to win something too.

cant say i saw it coming but after he got elected i have to say i felt that the chance with him was gone.. too much on his plate.. paudie would liven things up alright..

How much does the mayo managers job pay anyway ?
in fairness if he won it he could print his own euros , you think his pub in kerry makes money?
imagine one in westport/castlebar/ballina after he brought sam back to mayo..

i'm off for a lie down... ;D

Certain managers have an ability to get a team "over the winning line".

e.g. Harte at Tyrone who were up there anyway and Kernan at Armagh who weren't too far short either. Paidi got Westmeath to win a leinster so maybe he's a boy who can give a team belief...

That aside no idea what as I thought he was limited but JOM has done nothing for Mayo except bring them backwards in his last term. Granted a lot of players were coming to the end of their careers and he's come in at this time but he's still been uninspiring for me.

I think it's you, Zulu, who needs to grow up and not be so sensitive. I was merely pointing out that the points you and Roger Milla were making about the relative strengths of Mayo and Meath were utter nonsense, given all the evidence provided by the only criterion that matters in judging the relative merits of teams.

My subtext was to poke a little fun at Mayo's tendency to overrate themselves and the general tendency of pundits and punters to overrate Mayo, based more on wishes to see them win something than any credible evidence.

I'll stop now, because I don't feel comfortable in an argument about how much less mediocre than another team we are. Kerry people must feel like an elephant listening to a discussion between two goats about which of them weighs the most.

i am not here to argue with you hardy , i just think mayo fielded a better team than meath man for man that day and should have won , no insult to meath , i have massive respect for them , but that mayo team should have won , in my opinion...

and getting back on topic could maybe some of the kerry fans tell me what paudie would bring to the table that JOM is currently not providing ?

Mayo are simply not good enough to win Sam - they don't have the players, just like most of the other competing teams. The fact that people still talk about them as contenders is what I can't get my head around.

I agree myles, I don't understand some of the criticism that JOM gets in Mayo. While you'll always have conflicting views of a manager, he only deserves real criticism if he isn't getting the best out of the talent available and although Mayo should beat the likes of Meath he hasn't got a team with the ability to beat the best or to beat any top 12 team 9 times out of 10. That's the reality IMO and Mayo don't even have one of the core factors of an AI winning team.

i dotn mind them losign to a better team but i dont feel meath are a better team , JOM has very little to show for his three year tenure except for a dail seat... woudl love to hear paudie expand on what he feels he would bring to the table , he sounds a right chancer from jack o connors book , i remember one time he was being interviewd on his upcoming clash with cavan and he kept calling them monaghan...

have to fancy the colts really , mannings done it before and he wants to close in on brady.
they are a serious team. would love to see one of the other AFC teams take them out on the way though to leave it clear for the saints..

chargers looking very good alright , if the giants sneak in i expect them to do well in the playoffs, if the cowboys get in then i expect an early exit

Favre was brutal yesterday and refused to leave the game when told to by the coach. He really is a p***k of the highest order.

have to say i like the fella or at least respect him , but i have often heard he is a coach-killer , great time for him to come off the rails though so the saints can clinch hoem field ,

i saw on PTI that ochocinco is changing his name again !!
