Messi won 4 Champions League with Barcelona. Ronaldo won  6 with Real AFAIK.
That's 10 plus there were 2 bonus Ballons.
The 2 were undoubtedly talented but they also surfed a structural wave of concentrated sporting  power which did not exist in the 70s-90s and is replicated in Man City, PSG , Limerick hurlers and the Dub 6 in a row.

Starring Mayo as Atletico Madrid.
Messi and Ronaldo had the best access but that doesn't mean they are better than someone who played in a different system.

These conditions where 2 teams dominate over 15 years may not be repeated.

And poor Ronaldo really struggles with the dying of the light.

It's like you're screaming,
And no one can hear.
You almost feel ashamed
That someone could be that important,
That without them, you feel like nothing.
No one will ever understand how much it hurts.
You feel hopeless, like nothing can save you.
And when it's over, and it's gone,
You almost wish that you could have all that bad stuff back,
So that you could have the good.

Think Ronaldo got 1 at United where he was instrumental obviously, then did 4 in 5 years with Madrid where he scored a ridiculous amount. Mess has one with Barca from years ago where he didn't really feature, then the 2 where they beat United in finals where he was absolutely superb and then another one with Neymar and Suarez, 2015 maybe where again he was excellent. No doubt both benefitted hugely from brilliant supporting casts- Rooney, Tevez, Eto, Xavi, Iniesta, Modric, Benzema etc etc.

Messi featured heavily in 2006 but pulled his hamstring before the final against arsenal

Karim Benzema back for the final?

They can draft him in if they want - would be a big call.
Benzema isn't in the French squad

Yes he is

In the 2006 World Cup Zidane was on a different level, went and fucked it up with a moment of madness in the final then

Some are still fixated on England?? England are beaten, gone home  after having achieved a bit part in the history of WC2022.

I heard some reported comments that the players want to go on and win the cup for Messi. That's sentimental nonsense, rather it's about time that Messi and the other players win it for Argentina. That's honor enough. Messi has underperformed in previous WC tournaments.

He won the golden Ball in 2014 hardly underperforming now

He wasn't even Argentina's best player that competition. Di Maria was. It was given to Messi because he is Messi.

Agreed...he was no where near his Barca form...he's been much better this tournament

This is his best wc showing, I'd have him down as the player of the tournament thus far

Rewatched die hard, having not seen it for ages, still a clinker

Great entertainment.  Memorable one liners. Willis and Rickman were brilliant.

The one liners are just brilliant, not to many movies coming out like that now. Personal favourite is when he fires the body onto the police car "welcome to the party pal"

Movies are instantly forgettable these days . Actors have no charisma now . It's just all buffed up  Clones who all look the same .

I'd agree.
I can't remember the last movie that I'd have been chomping at the bit to see at the cinema.
Some good movies, but nothing like Shawshank, Die Hard, Pulp Fiction.....there's nothing new that you could say will be a movie you'd watch again.

I found recently you hear rave reviews about something and it's this and it's that, and when you go and see it it's fairly average. There are still good movies out there but a lot of what critics are lauding is average or below average.

Is the County Chairman role up for grabs. I see Eugene McConnell, Martin Sludden and Conor Sally are in for it. I'd like to see either the first 2 get it as they have put a lot into the committe side of things

Oh God

Eugene mc Connell couldn't run a bath

Why don't we just have Irish lads in all the development squads, and then we are at least developing people that are guaranteed to play for us, and then we'll pick up the brits that aren't good enough for England anyway. I couldn't care less if grealish or rice played for us anyway, I'd rather see lads it means something to playing.

What exactly did Ronnie do in the South Korea game? I thought he was decent against Uruguay, and I didn't get to see the south Korea game as I was watching the Ghana- Uruguay drama unfold. It worked out well in the end but what was the justification for dropping him?

The gaa is an amateur sport, that people play for free, and you want to introduce testing for recreational drugs and then I assume ban players if they test positive and have everyone know that they take them. Few of you boys would need to get a life.
