Hurling Discussion / Re: Brian Lohan v David Fitzgerald

Davy will be renewing his rivalry with Lohan with Galway by the looks of it.
No offence to Wexford, but there is a much better pool of talent coming through in Galway.

Siobhan Bernadette Haughey will be competing in Women's 200m freestyle final.

Dermot Morgan would have had a field day on Scrap Saturday. The Hong Kong Haughey clan.

Eoin Larkin has questioned the attitude of the Galway players, claiming they are "not willing to put their bodies on the line for each other".

The eight-time All-Ireland winner says the Tribesmen's lack of team ethic is one of the main reasons for their failure to consistently challenge for the Liam MacCarthy Cup.

Speaking to RTÉ 2fm's Game On, Larkin said: "As a group they're not really together. They come out with all the right things in the media, that they are together now more than ever, but when it really comes down to it they're not really willing to put their bodies on the line for each other.

With Galway it's difficult to shake off the memory of their post-2017 failure to achieve a satisfactory synthesis between force and finesse. This won't be quite as much an issue over the coming weeks. Simply let the big lads loose to batter down every door in sight.

It's all about the individual, not the collective. To be a consistent, top-performing team you have to be willing to put everybody else before yourself.

"There were problems in the Galway club scene over the last 10 or 15 years, bad belts being pulled and things like that. They weren't really getting on.

"I don't think that has really gone out of Galway hurling. They don't seem to be pulling together and playing the way they can as a team.

"There is no doubting they have fantastic individuals but that doesn't win you All-Irelands. I know they have won one All-Ireland but really, with the panel of players they have, they should have been more successful."
That's been the problem in Galway for over 40 years now. The players lose the hunger as soon as they win something or even get to an All Ireland final.

This is a disaster for Galway. I'm 90% sure he'll change his mind and come back next year!

The winners of this Sunday's game will win the all ireland.
Except if it's Galway, where we always manage to mess it up after a big semi final win.

Donoghue is being too quick to get rid of players who still have something to offer. This puts a lot of pressure on the younger players.

There was a good episode last night, the great Conor Hayes of Galway.
Everyone described him as an inspirational leader. He was key for the magnificent Galway team of the late 80s.
I had forgotten about the timbering he gave to Fennelly in 1987, but he was a player who always tried to play fair.

I have always thought that if he was picked at full back for the 1990 All Ireland, Cork wouldn't have got 5 goals.

Gutted!
I thought we were on course at half time and I still can't understand how we disappeared in the second half.

Cluxton would have nailed that last penalty.

I'd say Canice has plenty of offers of media work like a Sunday newspaper column.
There are just so many games that could either way that he could share his predictions on..

I'm delighted we beat the Cats. Galway had a little bit of a point to prove yesterday.
My one worry is that we always need a few goals to get the better of Kilkenny. They score points easier.

Unfortunately, Joe Canning's comments have taken the focus off Cody.
The sheeple in the media are afraid to address his behaviour on the sideline.

I remember Ger Loughnane getting pitchside bans for much less than what Cody did.

It would be good to see Clare coming again, and I think they might be a bit more grounded this time if they do make a breakthrough. They got awful carried away with themselves the last time, which is understandable I suppose :D.

I remember a barman in the old Davin Arms in Limerick congratulating a Clare supporter in October 1995 for taking '2 months to do what it took Tipp 100 years to do'.
2 months? I always heard people say 2 years.
It was only around the time of their 2nd All Ireland in 1997 that the public started to fall out with Clare.
The Barman might have been a prophet.

GAA Discussion / Re: AFR refugees?
September 17, 2012, 10:04:50 AM
I was browsing the GAA forum boards.ie over the weekend.
Already I can see the AFR influx over there are picking up bans for innocent things. Their topic has even been locked for going off topic.

The house rules seem all important to the moderators, who seem to read every post looking for a reason to swing the axe. Within a month I bet they will be all banned or have left.

I think they would fare much better on this site where I've not seen the same topic content policing.
Maybe there could be a invite extended to them?
