Murphy was better in the air and a better shot stopper, plus he has 4 All-Ireland medals.
[/quote]
I never rated Murphy, he wasn't much of a shot stopper imo and I can't recall much about his aerial prowess.  Having 4 all ireland medals means that he played in damned good team, next you'll be telling me that Charlie Nelligan was the finest keeper ever.

I'd agree that Cluxton has got handy all stars simply because he plays for Dublin (and not necessarily based on his performances that year) but that doesn't mean he's not been the best keeper for the past 10 years.

Sure Cluxton is guaranteed an allstar every year isn't he?

He was only 99% guaranteed an All-Star in previous years. Now that he's taking frees and 45s it's up to 100%.

Brains trust out in force today.

No All Star for Cluxton in 2008, 2009 and 2010.

As for the clown who said Cluxton was "never a top 3 goalkeeper in the country". Once again making himself a laughing stock with his utter lack of intelligence/knowledge.

Diarmuid Murphy
Pascal McConnell
David Clarke
Cluxton easily better than the three of them, Murphy in particular was never up to much.  However as only one of the above is still playing county football has Cluxton leapt into that top 3 now?

Just watched an episode of 'the thin blue line' last night as I decided to give it another chance after having a look through this thread recently and being surprised at how many people rated it.

My opinion hasn't changed in the years since I first decided it was crap, what do people see in it?

Given the politicians can only come up with rubbish (IMO) candidates so far, I'm all in favour of getting some "personality" to go for President. Unfortunately none mentioned so far fit the bill for me either, but I'm sure there must be some out there.

Some of the anti-Gay Byrne commentators have focused on him not being a politician, and thus not being qualified to be President. I think that's bull. You don't need to be a politician to be President, you need to be intelligent.

On a practical level you need to have some idea about legislation. That is crucial.

A bit of life experience and understanding of people would also be required in my view. Hard to get that from an ivory tower in Howth with your cravat fluttering in the breeze.
I thought he sold up and moved into an apartment in the four seasons (alongside Albert Reynolds)?

I heard a journo on the wireless saying that this could turn racial but only because some races have been out guarding their communities.

For example the turkish community blocked off some streets from the rioters/looters and asian communities were doing likewise.  There are fears that if this continues a few lads might start joining the rioters just looking for confrontation with these particular groupings.

Its amazing how quick society breaks down and how powerless policing is in situations like this. As bingo says it has damn all to the do with the original case in tottenham, just sheer opportunism on the behalf of thugs involved.
saw a clip on where there's a few lads talking about getting themselves some watches and so off they go....

Other targets have been offies and restaurants (for the mature steaks hanging out the back and some nice cheese don't you know), and of course the Sony distribution centre is now on fire (presumably ransacked first).

Sweet leppin lord, it gets worse.

Nothing I've heard mooted thus far could be worse that Gay Byrne.

I just heard a mention for Liveline Joe, that's worse (indisputably).

I watched without doubt the worst movie I have ever seen last week - 'The Happening'... shocking acting, script & direction

+1
+2

Can't recall having seen worse.  Nobody should waste that hour and a half of their life with this.

Armagh were at least 7 down to Fermanagh at the Athletic Grounds in the early 90's with 5 minutes to go and won by a point.

It was 9 points down with around 5-6 minutes to go. Fermanagh were a bit cocky and brought on some young lads as a run-out. Armagh more-or-less having given up on the sidelines brought on Barry O'Hagan to give him a debut. Barry got the ball wide and ran at the defence. Even though Armagh needed goals badly, Barry hit the ball over the bar. To be honest he just looked like he wanted a score on his championship début. The rest of the team looked at him like he was an idiot. Anyway from the kickout the ball went to midfield where it was fielded and then booted forward - Goal. few minutes left and now five points in it. Grimley was moved to full forward from midfield and the result was pretty much two kickouts, two catches, two punts forward and two net busters.

Armagh won by a point and if it hadn't been for O'Hagan's point it would have been a draw at best. The Athletic Grounds was half empty by the time the final whistle was blown as a lot of Armagh fans had left early in disgust. I passed lots of orange flags that had been thrown in the hedges and ditches as I left the ground. I was thinking that I bet those guys wished they had stayed and never thrown their flags away.

I believe the game was 1993.
Was that not the game that Denis Holywood scored a couple of goals in?

Some turnaround though from a week ago.  Now it looks like Byrne will be the "only Gay in the race."   ;)
ah no, Gay Mitchell is the FG candidate - nice try though.

I might emigrate if either gay gets in - tbh, the way things are going I wouldn't mind getting out of here for a few years.

Btw Byrne is 77, too old to run for anything but pope you'd think?

Norris is now the 13/8 favourite with Paddypower - personally, I've gone off him entirely.   As someone said, he handled the aftermath to his initial comments very badly.
It's Michael D for me, certainly not that Gay bugger anyway!!  I mean Mitchell of course, awful choice for FG, although the alternatives didn't seem much better.
it gets worse, is Gay Byrne really an option??

Would anyone actually vote for him?

Just noticed that Paddy Powers odds on this game have shifted considerably towards Kildare meaning that money is going on them. Kildare are now hot favs. I'm far from convinced and think it is possibly going to be the tightest game of the year so far. A draw?.. after extra time.
I'd agree, with the systems that both teams employ they'll each be hard to break down, I reckon it'll end up about 04 - 04 at the end of full time.  Kildare will prevail in extra time because they have been playing their system for longer now and they'll have the greater confidence that their system will prevail.

Looking forward to this, having seen both teams comfortably see off Derry over the past 2 weekends, I honestly don't have a clue who will win.
Both impressed me for totally different reasons and Kildare were a breath of fresh air to watch as opposed to what I witnessed the weekend before.

I think Kildare have more about them, but by fcuk that Donegal side could smother any team with their incredible work rate (Kildare's impressed last weekend too).

I think I'll have to side with kildare as I think they have more scoring potential, particularly if Murphy plays out the field like he's been forced to over the past few games.
