GAA Discussion / Carthy snubbed by RTE Chiefs
April 19, 2011, 10:51:48 PM
Lads here is an exclusive for ye - I will have it in the papers tomorrow.

Carthy snubbed by RTE
By Coilin Duffy
Brian Carthy has been snubbed by RTE chiefs who have looked elsewhere for Commentators for their radio broadcasts of this years Allianz Division 1 Football and Hurling league finals.

The RTE Radio Gaelic Games Correspondent had been expected to commetate on the deciders, as he was seen as the natural successor to Micheal O Muircheartaigh who retired after last years International Rules Series.

Marty Morrissey will commentate on the football decider between Dublin and Cork, a repeat of last years All-Ireland SFC semi-final pairing.

Meanwhile, Carthy has once again been overlooked for the Division 1 hurling decider at Croke Park on Sunday week.

Dublin hurlers return to the final stage for the first time since 1946, where they will meet Kilkenny.

Daragh Moloney will provide commentary to RTE Radio 1 listeners on that historic encounter.

Well done to my fellow Courtwood gaa clubman Eddie Kinsella on his appointment as referee for the 2011 Cadbury All ireland u21 football final between Cavan and Galway at Croke Park.

Another proud day for Laois GAA.

Laois to win this Sunday - everything going right for us at the moment - no injuries. I just interviewed Peter O Leary in the past two hours - lads arent getting caught up in the hype in Laois because there is none! Serious lack of flags out for what is a rare final appearance. Laois havent won league silverware of any kind since 1986 and no Senior silverware since 2003.

To answer the question posed initially at the start of this thread - no announcements yet. When I hear anything I will post it. On the HD stuff - I have one of these new TVs - a Sony Bravia and certainly looking forward to watching the games in glorious HD - I may just bring it around the country with me though - I will be watching games in glorious 3d every Sunday this Summer

Yes that's exactly it - matched the day to day wage. Actually someone really needs to put a motion before Congress on this and make sure everyone is paid the same

Sligo ha! I hadn't been in Markievicz Park for a few years until Laois-Sligo NFL2 a few weeks back - now two trips in a few weeks!

Through - I don't know if that International rules team had any solid men the last few years!

Nickey and Sean achieved something - Christy has still one year to go. Safe to say Liam is no Christy! By the way over the three years if anyone here has any ideas they want to put to Liam - I'll gladly help be the conduit

John McDermott being the last 'solid' Meath man to be involved? :)

Not exactly sure on that - I know he has some involvement with the appeals committee.

He has been appointed to some role with the International Rules team now as well coming out of the weekend

GAA Discussion / A great week for Laois

The past seven days has to be the best one for Laois Gaelic Games in an awful long time - perhaps ever. Two league final qualifications with the Ladies Footballers being Monaghan today hot on the heels of the Senior lads win over Donegal last week.

A GAA President Elect in the shape of Liam O'Neill - Congress in Laois next year and wins for the Minor Footballers and Senior hurlers - I don't recall a 100% week for blue and whites for a long time.

The way I know Liam there will be no soundbites - he is a man who will mean business as President. Don't forget we have 12 months of the most expensive GAA President ever to endure first

Longford or Tullamore I reckon.
