GAA Discussion / Re: Fundraising ideas for GAA clubs
January 01, 2011, 09:23:45 PM
A guy in Longford gave me a DVD of what they call 'Search for a Star' and has encouraged  me to use it in our club. He says it started in Dromard for a few years and then  the minor club in Lanesboro started to use it. It has proven to be a great success and has been running for the past ,I think, 4 years and they are getting together for another run in February. Give Joe O'Brien a shout and he will give you more than I can. I presume he will not mind me using his name here.

GAA Discussion / Re: Tom Daly for President?

For anyone taking an interest, or keeping an eye on those at the top, will see Tom's credentials outstrip the other 3 candidates. Lose one to win one is an excuse for losers - only the best win.

Congratulations to James Horan. Hopefully he will bring the success to Mayo that his namesake the great Monsignor did and that they will be flying high again soon. A great decion that I have no doubt the county will be well rewarded with pride once again restored in the county.
Over to you now,  Galway, be brave,  do the same - a homegrown man for the job.

And he represents grass roots thinking.

He most certainly DOES NOT.Maybe in the land of the dreary steeples but not around here anyway.

Why do you say that ?.

Mark Conway seems to be a man of tremendous vision, unfortunately for Roscommon his vision would not be appreciated in a land where everyone thinks they are God  - how sad. Maybe one day they will take the wool from their eyes but I don't expect it will be anyday soon.

It is not often a man gives so much of himself for the cause of the GAA and expects nothing in return. He offers his opinion in a fair and balance manner. He may be old school but God help with those of the new school that are so egotistigal. I watch with interest his comments and although I may not agree with them all I see the merits when one considers the direction he is coming from.

AZ you are a hero for putting together such a sweet script. I do not expect you will get a response from Duffy, Cooney, Mc Gill or Mc Kenna.
I wonder how brave that steward would have been if it was the Dubs had the banner!

GAA Discussion / Re: Who can stop Dublin?

I know it has  been discussed to death but unfortunately the clubs are more interested in club championship than developing their own players from their own parish to represent their own county and win their own championship >:(.

The Dublin clubs are doing it all by themselves buying in all the culchies and depriving their own club players of progressing.

I had been told earlier of the Irish Mail article by a M. Clifford today. Just read it. Who is he? Is he the new spokesman for the GPA? According to him all youse that are anti 'Pay for Play' should not worry because "These are not fears but unbridled paranoia"

If only a few of the ****ers would referee games according to the Treoir Oifigiúil for a start .....
I presume you are talking about your own county!!!!

Maybe it is the best thing that it is put aside for one year. It may, and I hope it does, bring the people that want it to continue and succeed together and form a group that want to run the Railway Cup not as we have had for the past years.
We had a President throw money at it to appease those that wanted it to continue. If he had an interest then he would have spent the money at the development rather than just throwing money at it for the sake of it. Although not an Ulster man I believe that the correct and proper leadership for the Railway Cup going forward come from that provience. I think rather than the "them nordies think they know it all and I am not going to support them in whatever they do" the mantra should be " how can we work with them in promoting the best footballers in Ireland to represent their provience" It is now time to take on this challange and prove that there is a life for the Railway Cup. Finally, Martin Donnelly is a true gael, his dedication and generosity should not go unheralded.

Maybe it is time to take a harsh look at themselves. Blame themselves unlike the referee they blamed at half time tonight. Listening to the commentary tonight and foir many times over the past year and the commentator and co-commentator refuses to see anything other than their own colours. The sun is not shining on them at the moment but rather than apportion blame they should look at themselves in a critical way and ask what is best for them going forward. Self analysis and critical self analysis from the top down is to be noted and seriously acted on - not paying it lip service.

GAA Discussion / Re: Ungrateful FAI Delaney

It is time you stopped "dreaming" and woke up. The GAA is now effectively begging the FAI and IRFU to stage more games at Croker, even after they move into their new stadium.

Incidentally the term "begging" implies petitioning goods or services for free, and thats certainly not what the IRFU and FAI got Croke Park for.

I do not agree with the vast majority of what you have said but if you change 'begging ' to 'prostituting' (the use of a skill or ability in a way that is considered unworthy, usually for financial gain) then we have grounds for negotiations to commence

I totally agree with you Longrunstheffox but graciousness is not what you would expect from him.  How ironic it is that he should say it yesterday after our so called great body prostituting themselves during the week re Brazil game.
