All I know is that he ruined somebodys life, I have lived my life but none of my mistakes involved glassing some guy in the face (because I haven't, maybe I haven't really live my life ???) We all know the work he is dong now and he deserves respect for it, however even if it was 13 years ago the fact still remains that he tried to kill somebody (Please don't say I am being over dramatic as glassing somebody is attempted murder like stabbing)

Incident in the UK.

"Tipperary hurling star John Leahy appeared in court in Manchester, England, on a charge of assaulting a man by throwing a beer glass at his face. He was remanded on bail but must remain in Manchester until his next court appearance on March 16"

so-wat the f**!! was part of the state he was in with alcohol and led to him getting sober. He said he regreted it when on the Late Late Show. he has done great work since as an alcohol councillor using his experience to help others. that you can't let that go says more about your intolerance and judgemental mindset Merx.

Listen, throwing a pint glass at someones face says more about him! you accepting it says way more about your mindset.

Legend on the field but his off the field antics in his early life will never make him a legend in my eyes

As for people saying everyone knew about it, its not as simple as that.  Everyone did not know about it, infact very few did, what everyone heard was the rumour that he was gay, but thats not the same as saying you "knew" he was gay.  There is a difference.  If that was the case I could post a few names of a few other sports people that are rumoured to be gay  Chances are, most that are rumoured to be are probably not.

Are you sure? The person who told me is also Gay and Donal is known in the Gay community so it's not like he was hiding in a closet, so as Reillers stated it has been known in Cork

Kudos to Donal for coming out and making it public, I am no fan of him and his GPA approach but I don't think he has made this public just to sell a few books. I think it is brave to come out and admit it as although most people suspected it he could always laugh it off as idle gossip. It would be foolish to think that he is the only high profile player who is Gay.

Reillers you are not much of a hurling supporter if you are saying this is the first you heard about it! I am from Wexford and was told almost 2 years ago that Donal was Gay.

How come we see an umpire with his hand up while the game goes on for a few minutes. Do they just forget to change the batteries

I am only quoting on the comment above about how they must deliver at senior now or be known as the next Limerick

I liked Tom Humphries comment today - basically Clare have the potential to be great, or the potential to be the next Limerick. Their record is poor enough at cashing in on underage success. Hopefully they'll turn most of this crop into quality intercounty seniors. Hurling could do with Clare being more competitive than they have been in the last few years.

Bit harsh by Humphries, it's not like Clare have just won 3 in a row! yes this is a very good U21 squad but it's a big step up to Senior and for him to already be spouting such tripe a day after they win their first AI 21 title is just stupid. Sometimes I wonder if has he a clue about sport ::)

well its not good enough to get those calls wrong, and i dont believe it evens itself out either.
Refs rarely use their linesmen, and old age pensioners for umpires dont count as officials just because they are drinking buddies of the ref. That also needs to be looked at. Should have proper refs doing umpire..

Agreed, We need to improve those officials all ready there! Umpires should take on more responsibility, why couldn't the ref get his umpires opinion on Sunday as to where the foul was committed. Linesmen are refs but never seem to do anything but wave their flags, surely they can help the ref out, the only technology used should be linking umpires, refs and linesmen via headsets like in rugby.

How do they implement this video ref, for every free? penalty decisions only? if penalty decisions only then what about a bad 21 yd free decision as quiet a few goals are scored from 21's. Then we have the problem of what happens if a goal is scored but the ref gives a free out wrongly for barging or over carrying. A free from midfield could change a game with it resulting in a goal or winning point........... my head hurts thinking about this! We would need to be very careful that the video ref doesn't destroy the flow of the game.

Davy Fitz got in trouble for it with LIT, Your very own Tommy Carr nearly decked a ref
