United Protestant Voice

What a depressing name for any organisation in this day and age.
So its not that someone holds a particular political allegiance or view anymore its that they were christened in a reformation church that determines their view on fleg waving??
What has religion got to do with any of this?

religion (or rather peoples use of it), is a Bloody hex on this place.

General discussion / Re: MOT Car Wash
November 21, 2012, 02:23:00 PM
I had an MOT Wash just before going to the MOT Centre once and nearly failed a brake test as a result according to the assesor.

He said that the water would have got into the brakes (or something along those lines) and was affecting performance.
He was pretty sound about it and retested 3 times and they eventually passed. He said not to get the wash too close to the actual test.

Jaysus yous are all very harsh on him.
I knew very little about him before i seen that documentary last night.

He seemed like he was saying everything you would expect a priest to say, but that they never would admit to.
dealing with celebacy, their nomadic life, the institutional obsession with itself.

Is there still lay people out there who think that priests should still remain celebate and that there should be no women priests? really?

http://www.thejournal.ie/derry-makes-the-lonely-planets-top-10-best-cities-for-2013-646178-Oct2012/

Despite all the negativity about derry (lead by our very own former resident theticklemister)
this recognition by Lonely Planet is quite an achievement and will be a big boost to the city.

General discussion / Re: Ulster Covenant march

Serious Questions.

Why do Marchers wear white gloves?
Why do Bands wear Military Uniforms?
What does the average orangeman do 13th July - 11th july?
How often do the meet up? Is it like a prayer group or what?

I genuinely have no idea.

Yes the tradition is long gone; that's why some people with a bit of know-how could come in and help out.
No Else's job to worry about GAA in the city but the people of the City.
People have enough to worry about at their own club and county level than to help someone else.

Derry City Council are a farce and the only people we can blame ourselves for electing politicians more interested in crap like freeing Palestine than sorting out issues in their own communities.

You seem to be confused. It not City of UK Culture - its UK City of culture. There's a very big difference.

I personally have no bother with Derry having it and it'll be good for the local economy, but what's the differences above?

Its not a festival of british Culture etc. Its all Cultures. Hence Fleadh etc.

Bad thing for the town.............ill give one simple reason which is why a lot of people disagree with it: we are irish, we are proud to be irish.

There is no way that it will be  bad thing for the City. thankfully your in the very small minority who think that.

As for being Irish. How will that be affected on Jan 1st 2013?

They shouldn't be worried about the game itself.
(Id love to see it go to 13-a-side to make it more free-flowing but never going to happen it seems)

What needs to be address is the administratino for the majority (Club Players). Fixtures are all over the place.
You can no longer expect county players to be dragged from pillar to post by their club & County. At the same time you can't expect club players to be subjected to fixtures which are liable to change at any minute and being idle for months and then a flood games in a week or 2.

The survey itself has some very loaded questions. Its quite clear for the survey what Areas they are looking at.
Why handpassing is now seen as a disease i haven't got a clue.

Watched the Nolan show last week....

Just goes to show...people will watch anything. If there's a more sensationalist mouthpiece/slabber anywhere on this earth than the self-proclaimed champion of the people that is Stephen Nolan, I've yet to come across him/her.
Dont judge me! :D  I was just interested to see how he would react when it didnt go his way.  He was expecting majority condemnation but it was never going to be forthcoming.
You still watched him though...it's people like who who keep that man in work!!!!

HiMucker,  - Dont you see? your "Normalising british rule" but watching the bbc!!

to implement republican principles.

So what are these principles. Even just a quite oversight as to what they are.
I always understood the word republic to relate to the will of the people?

At the risk of enatcing Godwin's law.
Forcing your ideals on people is more akin to fascism. Wouldn't u agree tickle?

Does anyone know much or have any experience in getting onto the co-ownership scheme in NI?

Its a scheme to allow people who cant afford to buy a house, to buy a house. (it's like 2008 crash never happened)

Wouldnt touch it with a barge poll.

I Downloaded a copy of the documentary back when it was first mentioned on here.
Have it on the PC at home, but its probably much to big and illegal i assume  ::) to share.

It gives a great insight into an extraordinary man's life.

I imgine RTE will be showing it at some stage this week.
