The semi circle was introduced to ensure that all players were 13 metres from the player taking a penalty. It has no relevance regarding a kick out presently but in the past when kick outs were taken at different points whether it be a wide or a score it had relevance. With the kick out from the 13 m line after a wide or a score it done away with this requirement
You asked how does a referee know how they know if a ball has traveled 13m.  The same way he/she makes a judgement if a player is too close to a player taking a sideline or a free - it is a judgement call.

The introduction of the semi circle by a rules revision committee some years back who thought it would be  a good idea but there was a knock on effect on the existing rules in force at that time for both football and hurling and had to be revised. This is something I feel Rules Revision Committees do not take into consideration - the consequences of proposed rule changes and how it affects other rules.

Here is the rule regarding kick outs.
Question - Did the ball travel more than 13 m

2.7 (a) When the ball is played over the endline by
the Team attacking that end, or after a score
is made, play is restarted by a kick-out off the
ground from the 13m line and within the large
rectangle.
If the goalkeeper is not taking the kick-out, he
shall stay in the small rectangle, and all other
players, except the player taking the kick-out,
shall be outside the 20m line and 13m from the
ball, until it has been kicked.
The player taking a kick-out may kick the
ball more than once before any other player
touches it but may not take the ball into his
hands.
The ball shall travel 13m before being played
by another player of the defending team

Agreed that it is only club in that parish but I was trying to make the point that the club is not named after the parish where a lot of clubs are named after the parish and not the major settlement within the parish eg Clonduff not Hilltown. Conversely there are probably as many not using the parish name.

This year three teams from the "old" Clonallon parish contested the Down SFC semi finals ie Burren CPN and Mayobridge probably a rare occurrence for something like this to happen. Anyone know if any other county can claim a similar situation?

MR2 the quirky concept of the Cracker is that the route changes every year along with being a pairs race and everyone wants to know the route to recce to get a guide time. Are you thinking of entering as the quota of 700 pairs has been reached

No.1 I will have a word with the Prophet to see what  the recee arrangements are and let you know. Will probably be doing sweeper again no training required just warm clothes and a thick skin if last year was anything to go by. There was no running involved only walking as the tailenders  were close to 3 hours and that was after rerouting them. Are you doing with Rinty?

Yes rumours are correct mostly in the Park but still could be brutal

JC did Ballygalget not play SN or KL one year in Corrigan not sure if it was a final or semi? I mind seeing highlights of the game on BBC Newsline.

Credit is due to St John's for the arrangements for yesterdays games, I didn't see much wrong with anything and the weather played its part, on a poor wet day it may be different

I attended the USHC Club semi yesterday and was remarking that the finals in all three grades in previous years used to be held on the last Sunday of October with the football club provincial series starting on the first Sunday in November. So the Ulster Council have put back the fixture dates by two weeks making the situation more of a problem with the finals now on November 11th. They haven't changed the schedule for the football IF or SFC only the JFC to allow the "twining" final on 8/9th December. Is this concept devised to eliminate an AIQF with the British champions?
