General discussion / Re: The TV Show Thread

Anyone seen a show called dexter on the channel fx?

It's meant to be very good and given there's nothing but tripe on at the minute seeing I've seen Heroes and Lost is off could be worth a try.

Ahoghill shouldn't be near a junior championship - they're streets ahead of anything in that competition and should win by about ten. They should really challenge for Ulster in that competition too.

The intermediate should be interesting. I think Dunloy may just be too strong but I don't think there'll be much in the game at all. I don't think there's too much of an overlap with the hurlers these days so they shouldn't be impacted in that regard.

I would imagine all the Cunningham chat on the hogan stand site is rubbish.

I find the Ballycastle score quite worrying as they have a few boys who are reckoned to be great hopes for Antrim hurling in McAuley and young Donnelly and they have never yet seemed to count at all in senior hurling. Anyone any opinions on how boys like that are developing? (Don't want to be harsh on young boys but thought they would be starting to develop now...) I would actually say the same for Joey Scullion...

Dunloy are still hard to watch. In Dick O'Kane and Paddy Richmond they probably have two of the best three scorers in club hurling in antrim - with winker being the notable other one. They also have quite a bit of big game(winning) experience and this should stand them in good stead for the final.

For Loughgiel previously it would have been a catastrophe to lose 5 finals in row - now that catastrophe would be at least ten times worse if they lost it to dunloy!!

That's a bloody good goal!!

Him and the brother play for a team in Belfast - not sure the name.

Sure young McGourty plays for DC and McGreevey played for them for a long while.

Kerry can win all irelands playing football though.

Yesterday they, and not Cork, dragged the game down. If they'd just concentrated on playing football they'd have blown Cork away and also made it worthwhile to watch.

Anyway - they are a superb team and the best I've seen.

Spillane is a bit of a tool but can sometimes be good value. He has made a few tongue in cheek wind up comments about Tyrone and Armagh which a lot of people have been sucked in by.

However I thought his reluctance to criticise that game yesterday was a joke. I thought Kerry played a more cynical game yesterday than any of the Ulster teams ever did. If they'd have went out and played football they'd have blown Cork away so why didn't they? They were the perpetrators of most of the fouls yesterday. Spillane did not highlight this at all and I thought this was hypocricy.

GAA Discussion / Re: Derry V Galway MFC

Hard luck to Derry - to say a hollow victory for Galway is a bit ridiculous though.

Two incidents of note which turned the game I feel. The free derry threw away for the fella cheering at getting it and the time they hit the post. I honestly felt though with the no. 5 cheering for the free that he was turning round expecting to be blown up for too long and he was shouting in great relief at having got the free - he didn't shout in the defenders face if you take a look at it. The other being the hitting the post incident.

I felt McGeehan was the most talented player on show. He doesn't waste a ball - his goal was excellent and even the one he hit the post with he did really well to even get a shot of. It'll be interesting to see how he progresses at senior - looks like another Geoffrey!

Derry I felt had a much better defense possibly moreso as a unit than as individuals. Galway I feel man for man in the forwards had a bit more talent though. Conway moved Kielt out of midfield for the start of the second half and i think derry suffered because of this. He did move him back though.

Any word on kevin mcgourty coming back for you guys milltown?

Love him or hate him I think he's a boy you will need if you have aspirations of winning the Ulster club again.

Relegation was one down and next two play off to play the winners of the division two play off. It wasn't a mess in general - it just became one that year when what was stated at the start of the year was went back on...

Anyway I think a strong Rossa is good for Antrim and I hope they come back up in the football. What happened happened and hopefully won't again.

You might be right and I might be missing a year actually - the aghagallon one might have been two years later.

They beat Aghagallon in a play off the following year and then got relegated the year after that. Obviously none of us can state unequivocally that this is what happened but the word is/was that they threatened to pull their county players out with them having a few influential ones in Connolly and Kettle and a few others too in Bell(if he played county then which I think he did) and Hamill.

At that time hardstation they threatened to pull their players out of the county squad if they got relegated from the football. Lo and behold they finished bottom the leagues were then restructured and no one got relegated.

Anyway I don't have anything personal against them but there are a few instances like this which I feel have finally came back to haunt them.

I think he's the most driven person I've ever seen play the game and he's about as driven a person I've ever seen.

He was a very very good footballer who made the most of what he got and I would say he was as influential on that Armagh team as any single player has ever been on any team.

I think a moment that summed him up for me was in the 2002 final when one of the O'Ses,I think, was making a burst through to get an equaliser. You could just see McGeeney put the head down - Armagh player in his road and all - sprint past the Armagh player and execute a perfect block. There are defining moments in games and to me that was the moment that Armagh won the All Ireland.

Also if he'd been a few years younger I think that Armagh would have beaten Kerry last year. He played the perfect game in the first half and had his engine allowed him I'd have no doubt he'd have done so in the second half too and led them to victory.(I know Armagh were well beat in the end but that's how much influence I think he could have had)

U21 final result:
Ballycastle    4-13   1-6   Dunloy    Loughguile

Anyone happen to make this game? Any reports?

I'd have thought Dunloy would be favourites for this but that is a fair beating they took. A good boost for Ballycastle going into the championship semis.
