General discussion / Re: The Race for the ARAS.....

I do think its a bit strange that all the Northern posters think that McGuinness has a chance. I think he'll poll quite well, but he'll never be president of Ireland. From my mates, and those I work with, and my family, he is no 7 in everyone's thinking

What about the dealers trick? Do people play that? I hate that rule.

People get very principled about that game...

Mc Guinness is being given credit here when it was Pat Kenny that really laid  it up for him with his "Sinn Fein are going to reveal the donor" comment! Also there was no comment on the relationship between MMG and this   convicted smuggler  as well! After all they had spoken on the phone earlier!! Whichever RTE researcher read the comment on Twitter deserves the praise too. MMG would not have landed any punch of any description without that intervention.  Very entertaining debate though and Norris was so witty. Michael D will probably  end up getting the extra votes now

Whatever researcher it was deserves no praise. Vincent Brown afterwards clarified that the twitter account is not an official one and clarified that SF were not aware of any such press conference with the man in question. So Pat was "laying it on?" If McG didn't make his reveleation, Pat couldn't have laid anything on. Furthermore, in the RTÉ press conference after the debate, McG stated he has no relationship with this person. The man does seem to have a connection to Adams in Louth which is most likely the way it worked out.

Sorry Nally, but he actually did a pretty shit job of sticking it to Gallagher, the twitter account and Pat Kenny's reference did the damage. Gallagher had deflected the issue (if badly) at that stage, but really put his foot in it after the ad break when Kenny questioned him, and then he made a complete balls of it. As for not winning the debate, it seems in this election, its more about not doing anything stupid to lose it rather than doing anything great to win it as they are all average. I still have no clue who I will vote for, but I know I definitely won't vote for Norris, Mitchell, Dana or McGuinness because I don't think any of them are in any way presidential. Gallagher is very close to joining that group also.

Of course no one made an impact like that, and I wouldn't congratulate McGuinness for something that was clearly orchestrated. They even had the home town crowd. I think that Sean Gallagher and his camp should look at themselves for not being ready for that line of questioning, it was obvious that he was so far ahead that he was going to be targetted. The second most impactful thing for me was McGuinness not calling Jean McConvilles murder as murder. He thinks he's the master of the double speak, but actually its very obvious what he was, and if he wants some kudos, he should come out, answer the odd question directly. "I've worked for peace for 30 years was another gem."
Micheal D was by far and away the most statesmanlike last night. McGuinness took down Gallagher, and all he needed to do was keep schtum, and he did. Norris I liked for the pure comedy factor, not for any other reason - the joke about the reference to the envelope being unfortunate was brilliant!

Norris and Michael D were the men for me last night. Gallagher has no real substance, and cannot perform in debates. The irony of McGuinness telling him to answer the question was hilarious. The bullshit about the McConville family interpreting her murder as murder shows him up again to be totally out of touch with the majority of the electorate in the South.  Looks like a complete set up by Sinn Fein last night, the twitter account is not real, and there was plenty of Shinners in the rent a crowd.
Davis was blander than bland, Mitchell and idiot, and Dana worse....

I for one and I've had a similar conversation with the majority of my mates, both at home and at work, would vote for anyone other than McGuinness. How you can be president of a state that theoretically you don't recognise is beyond me. Also, his party as they portray themselves in the the south, are marxist, are completely out of touch with fiscal reality.

Take his past into account and there's not a nail, but about a factory full of them into the coffin of me voting for him. Sinn Fein in the South does not mean the same thing as Sinn Fein in the North from any perspective.

There were 4 Kerry lads slowly descending on him there - did well to ignore them, I'm sure they had a few words to say!

I know  ::)

Like I said, he's a bit of a w**ker, but his point is well made, the Kerry forwards generally chose the right option, even if the right option means they don't rack up big scores. I'm not so sure thats the case for the Dubs, they've improved on last year, but I still think that alot of them play for themselves (or their brother!) more so than for the team

And by the way I don't think any county has a set of forwards as good as Kerry have - surprised they left Galvin on the bench

So Screen you don't like the Dubs because they train hard and take supplements even though
QuoteMost half decent Club teams are at it

So do you only support clubs that are not half decent?

Do you think the Kerry lads do no training at all no?
