McShane back out training tonight, wonder will Harte throw him straight back in against Kerry!!

so is he staying for good?

Heard today that Harte met with him last week alongside 2 Club Tyrone sponsors, apparently got a big job offered to him in Keystone, a site to build on and some cash!!
I still think he'd be mad to accept it and miss out on an opportunity of a lifetime but we'll know soon enuf

History repeating its self...lol...not the first to be offered all that!!!

Enlighten us please as to who else ?

Believe Sean Cavanagh was offered and probably accepted, depending on what you want to believe "an incentive" to stay.

That wouldn't surprise me. Sure he'd go to The Sunday Game rather than line out for his club.

How many of the 03 team are still lining out for their clubs? Most haven't got the time or commitment at this stage of their lives for various reasons including work. If he misses one or two league games a year because of work commitments is it really that big a deal? I'm sure many average club players miss the odd game due to work and never a word about it.

John devine (errigal res last year) Enda Mcginley (featured in a few res/3rds games last year?) Conor Gormley, Ciaran Gourley?, Cavanagh, is Stephen o neill still playing?  anyone else?

Couldn't believe when I heard the result.  It was like the shock of the referendum all over again only this time remain won when you would have thought leave would have come through by a landslide.

My biggest gripe is that there seems to be very little to no engagement whatsoever from clubs and their actual reserve players.  From speaking to a number of reserve players, a lot where in favour of this new system but nobody bothered to ask them on their thoughts or views which I find the most disappointing aspect and shows a total lack of respect from the clubs towards their own reserve players.

A few old heads at the top of each club calling the shots.  The gammons have won again.  Welcome to Brexit Tyrone.

As I said earlier Carrickmore did consult there senior squad and their was no appetite for it at all. The lads in their mid to late 20s said they would retire if they were not on the senior squad, which wouldnt be possible if the reserve were playing on a different day.
Maybe if WT4E or his Kildress club had of followed Carrickmores path on player development they wouldnt be in Division. Why would we vote to change something that is working for us?

Why would it not be possible to be on the senior squad if the reserve game was played on a different night? that argument makes absolutely no sense!

So you are actually expecting lads to tog out twice within 2 days.. maybe not featuring in a senior match then travelling to probably the same opponent again to play a reserve match on a monday evening with next to no one at the match. I think it's your deluded argument that makes absolutely no sense

The reserve re structure may have been worth a go but I do not think it would of been of any benefit to the club player whatsoever.  Like stated before, it would be making a clear divide in who is good enough for senior football and who isn't - this putting players off going back out when they know they won't be playing on the sunday. The underage re structure is a bigger farce!! Who in their right mind thinks running the u16 league alongside minors is a good idea. For training alone most minor teams are made up of u16's - this means most clubs will probably have to join both training's together leaving younger/weaker u16's not being able to compete with the minors at 18 years of age. I hope it does work out for the best and I eat my words but at the moment it is hard to see how it can be compatible.

Some shit wrote on this on as who right and whos wrong, at the end of the day reserve football isn't working at the minute and "big" changes need to be made, end of the day its all a trial to see if there is improvement and if Monday proves its only 1% better then lets go ahead with it, in saying this I believe it doesn't have to be Mondays as why not just put the reserves on at 2 on a Sunday if there's no seniors on anyway but I still wont complain when ever it is! Id imagine most reserve players wudnt mind it being separate from the seniors for sure anyway, how many reserves players enjoy watching the senior management heading in with the senior team at half time of their game and then doing a warm up during the second half of the reserve game, known they aren't even watching how your performing? Even some of the crowd in the stand watch the seniors warm up to get a glimpse of what the senior team might and whos fit etc rather than watching the reserve game! Also decoupling it means the seniors management will actually be able to watch a full reserve game meaning players will give full efforts for a full 60 mins knowing the managements have eyes on them!!

Good theory, however I feel decoupling the reserves from seniors may have a negative impact on certain clubs trying to retain players. Yes, players have a better chance of getting football most weekends/management get to watch reserves etc. But if reserves were to play on a Monday night - this is adding another night in a week for a reserve player to leave the family/come home from uni for a match.. Most clubs in theory would also train on a Tuesday night after a sunday evening game - This may mean segregating a senior and reserve panel on the Tuesday night given them playing a match the night before... Yes its worth a trial but I feel it may cause more trouble than it is worth in the long run. Anyone agree/disagree?

Experience tells me nothing good will come of this transfer.

do you have any examples of club transfers that worked out poorly? not being cheeky, im genuinely interested, always found club transfers to be a strange occurrence

I'm not gonna name names but I've seen a few in my time and the player leaving usually the club wants rid, or the guy joining isn't really as good or committed as the club thought.
Only in the circumstance someone is moving as they are genuinely leaving for work or travel reasons in that instance they tend to work out a little less shit.

Penrose transfer worked out well for him, albeit he never won a senior championship but has been one of the best club players in his time and still is going by last years championship performances!

I think you should have put ''yet'' after that sentence GAAfanatic.... ;D

Brian Meenagh of Killyclogher involved with Loughmacrory management this year as well Im hearing.

Not sure if he would agree with this statement himself albeit his home address probably.. I think the ties may have been cut hence the Loughmacrory role - following the brother

Galbally will do alright in D1 lads. It looks like it could be one of the most competitive D1 in awhile.

A bad start will see you in a tricky enough place coming into Championship football. I'd say Carrickmore and Ardboe especially will come out of the gates flying this year, they can't afford to get into a scrap near the bottom.

Moy will be the team people look to pick on this year I'd say, especially with Colm Cavanagh going back to the county set up and Harry Loughran injured - themselves and Derrylaughan will need a massive pre season. Donaghmore continually manage to get themselves safe and into the middle of the table year on year despite never really kicking on, they didn't look overly good anytime I've seen them / played against them over last 2/3 years.

I agree but I think galbally will be in the lower half of the table. still a very young side and 2 of their best players in the county setup will not help. Massive step up from division 2 as proven so many times - cookstown, eglish to name 2. There is probably anything from 4/5 teams who could win the league and anything from 5/6 teams who could struggle. Not many inbetween

Why would they not have been favoured?
They won the minor championship and league at the same age group and so many of them have senior experience.
I would have been disappointed had we not won it.
Who are the ones who have a lot of senior experience? Excluding Monroe & Daly, I can't think of any more really?

Sean Donnelly, Ruairi Slane, and Tiarnan Murray all have a lot of senior experience although Wee Roddy didn't mention the words a lot.  James McGurk, Rory Donnelly, Lorcan McBride, Ciaran Cuddy, Oran Mckee, Conor Loughran have all got senior football at some stage this past couple of years.
Talk sense, most of them lads haven't played 60 minutes. Tiarnan Murray probably the most experience in that list. Should Carrickmore not be giving these men more chances in the seniors and maybe build a bit of consistency in the league
7 of them have played more than 60 minutes.  You keep to your intermediate football. We seen the standard that is when quite a few of starters from Galbally met us in the u21s.  A new county player limping off after 20 minutes holding his hamstring after getting a roasting by a 17 year old cub.  Then reappeared for the second half with his hamstring mended.  Quite embarrassing.
The same 17 year old cub probably won't get a crack at the whip because the over 40s on your team refuse to move on, and nobody has the balls to drop them because they won an all ireland or two 10-15 years ago.

Oh, don't you worry, the 17 year cub will be getting crack at it.  We can rebuild without dropping to intermediate football.

there will be some craic on here when yous play in the league and them two men get to mark each other again  :o

as for the comment about the over 40s... I would dare to say that gormley and penrose would start for a majority of D1 teams, im guessing a lot of people on here would agree
Not a chance, wouldnt make it on any team in the top 8 or 9. Carmen can keepem

Disagree here, maybe top 2/3 teams but Penrose and Gormley would still get on a majority of teams, Outside of Murray then Gormley and Penrose are Carmens 2 most influencial players maybe with Mickey Donaghy also, we all seen that in there championship games this season, Penrose was a level above everyone in the Edendork game except maybe McCurry who hit a bagful, without those 2 men then Carmen would be in a dog fight to stay up! Personally id love to see them play their young fella to end the argument, don't get me wrong, great young players but just not near ready yet for senior football, experience is massive at the highest level

Totally agree.. however Division one this year may see several teams fielding young(ish) sides - Galbally, Loughmacrory, Carmen, killyclogher, Dromore

A note of congratulations to Newtonstewart yesterday for hosting the U21 final. Pitch was in great shape for the conditions that was in it! Another title for that group of players- u13, og sport, u16 double, minor double and U21 championship.. hopefully delivering the big one in the not too distant future

Clearly a quality group of players coming through at Carmen. That was a very heavily fancied clarkes team with 6  Tyrone U20s? Were they all playing? I know McKearney is injured and may need an operation?
5 or 6 u20s from what I believe yea. We had the one in cormac munroe. Mckearney was playing and was kept reasonably quiet - maybe down to injury but our lads definitely had the homework done to nullify the main men from the Clarkes

Does anyone know the venue for the u21 final? Bad enough playing football at this time of the year never mind not knowing the venue 3 or 4 days before the game is played.  Galbally or Pomeroy would be the obvious venues should their pitches be playable after this weeks weather.
So on Facebook that it was in Cmore,  Dungannon not happy;  obviously

It's in Ardboe on Saturday at 1pm

Strangest one i've heard in a wile. Would of been safer taking it to the Athletic Grounds to keep up the tradition

Whos favorite for D1 Playoff this weekend?

I expect Eglish to get sucked in to the Lough tactics and our neighbours join us at the top table. They reckon Herb Dean or big John McCarthy will be refereeing.

It would be interesting to see a tally of underage titles say from the 90's compared to success at senior level in the same period. Not sure where this information would be stored but I reckon Fionntamhnach could do a job on it.  8)
