GAA Discussion / Jumpers for goalposts
April 07, 2010, 10:43:23 PM
Gone are the days of jumpers for goalposts.

Currently within my local club we are having a hard time getting the youth to part take in gaelic games.
Seems that so many modern day distractions have ment that GAA has taken a back seat in the minds of our youth.
I am managing out under 14 team and to be honest it seems lik Gaelic football is more of a chore to some of them than something they actually enjoy. We have guest coaches and fun sessions to keep the level of enjoyment high together with a lot of serious sessions learning the skills.
Back when I was this age we weree home from school, threw the bag in house and out kicking ball. All our under14s talk about is playing the X Box or PS. Also games like soccer and now rugby, which has runied many of our minor players by slowing the down, have over taken gaelic football as their key sport.
Sad times. We lost a number of minor players to rugby for first league game and struggled to field a team. In truth our club will struggle to field witin next ten years!
