Whats the story with this?

Headed out to 'Rain' in Belfast on Saturday night. As I have about a 20% success rate with getting into this place I wasn't holding out much hope. We did the usual drill - as there was five of us we split up into two groups (ya know since apparently niteclubs don't like people who go out with more than 2 friends). I was in the second group. Soon enough I could see the rejection at the head of the queue as the all too familiar words were being mouthed by the bouncers, "not tonight lads". So that was that for another week.

One of my mates has never actually gotten into Rain before, I have and its not all that special! We've even taken to making sure were not in any sort of mess heading up the door now to try and get in. Were just not their 'type of people' it seems. We don't look protestant enough, them with their fancy clothes and swarthy skin.

Any suggestions for future excursions to Rain are welcome!

After seeing the smugness from civil partners Oneill and Hardstation over Irelands demise last night I'm left puzzled.

Why do some sports fans on this board (or indeed this country) feel that following one sport should exclude you from enjoying other sports? Why is there a want by some for their chosen sport to have a monopoly over the sports world? This seems to particularly relate to GAA vs Soccer.

From a personal point of view, as far as participating in sport goes, Gaelic football for me is head and shoulders above the rest. I would enjoy a bit of 5 aside soccer every week but have never participated in anything competitive. As far as following the games goes, they're pretty much on a par with Gaelic possibly edgeing it. I love watching the Championship every year and following my county and I look forward every week to Liverpool in the Premier League and following Ireland through the qualifiers.

However, this doesn't stop me enjoying watching Rugby and appreciating the effort and committment that the players put in even though I have no real love for the game. The same can be said for any Irishman competing in any part of the world in his (or her) given sport. I can appreciate the effort, committment and dedication it takes to compete at that level and they will have my support.

Why then did some supposed Irish sportsfans feel the need to be petty and vindictive towards Irish soccer last night? Why can some GAA men not recognise the mammoth effort given by every Irish player in Paris last night when clearly this was not about money, it was about pride in your team and country and about bringing your country to the greatest sports competition in the world.

This is not limited to last night, it is a recurring theme among this board.
