General discussion / Bull in the Supervalu shop!
April 23, 2009, 09:33:38 PM
Did anyone catch the footage this evening on RTE news of the Bull chasing the farmer in the Supervalu shop? Pure classic. Freshest beef ever according to the manager!

Hurling Discussion / Ballybraddan Cartoon
April 22, 2009, 11:06:05 PM
I'm only putting this subject in here because its the first time I've seen a cartoon series based on hurling. I saw it for the first time yesterday and I was splitting my sides laughing at some of the jokes. The poor old bainisteoir has letters missing from the back of his shirt so it spells BANTOR. Then you have all the in school sheeganans going on not to mention the other teams they will have to play. Add to the fact that they have not won a championship for 60 years. I don't really get where the accents are meant to be from but at a guess I'd say possibly Tipperary.

GAA Discussion / Big thank you to Vodaphone
April 17, 2009, 12:01:12 AM
I just would like to say a big thank you to Vodaphone who sponsered some 3 day GAA football camps for children in my area over Easter. I've a young lad (9) who suffers from Autism and it is demon hard to get him to attend any sort of social mingling activities like this. He really enjoyed the camp and now has signed up for a 5 day football course in July. He also came home with a blue hoodie top (which he straight away got wet paint on!) and all for the grand cost of €10.

These are two Aertel headlines on the same day (sat 14 March 2009) and for some reason I find them funny!

Hurling Discussion / Tracing old playing records
March 05, 2009, 12:08:36 PM
I'm trying to verify when a certain player was a county minor hurling player. He has since passed away. He played back in the 50s or 60s but at the same time there was a member of his club with the same name who played with him. How do I verify which was which? I could go by his date of birth but this is not always available on the team sheet. Anyone out there know how to go about this task?

A helicopter carrying Minister for Tourism Martin Cullen was forced to make an emergency landing in Killarney this afternoon.

Mr Cullen had just finished addressing the annual conference of the Irish Hotels Federation and the Air Corps AW 139 had taken off from the grounds of the Malton Hotel in Killarney.

The left door of the helicopter fell off at a height of 150 metres as it flew over Killarney National Park in Castlerosse.

AdvertisementThe helicopter made an emergency landing nearby at Killarney Golf and Fishing Club.

No one was injured in the incident.

Witnesses say Mr Cullen, who was flying with an assistant and a crew of three, was shaken following the incident.

He continued his journey by road to Kerry Airport from where a second AW 139 helicopter, which was diverted from a training exercise in Cork, picked him up and is returning him to Dublin.

The Defence Forces said in a statement that the aircraft is on the ground until a Military Airworthiness Inspection Team and technicians from Air Corps HQ examine it.

This team will fly to Kerry to assess the helicopter and it will be moved after the inspection.

The passengers had boarded the helicopter through the right-hand side door before take off.

The same helicopter brought Minister Cullen from Waterford to Killarney this morning and was returning to Dublin when the incident occurred.

According to the Defence Forces, the AW 139 can fly with doors open under certain speeds, but this is normally in military and winching roles.

If I was the pilot I might have just accidently tipped the helicopter to the side that was open and see what happened!! ;D

Why is there not a seperate forum here to deal with handball, one for rounders, one for SCOR and one for the Irish language? To even call this a proper GAA Board is an insult while there is no recognition given to these very important aspects of the GAA ethos: Discuss  :)

Hurling Discussion / Hurling DVDS?
February 13, 2009, 12:36:54 AM
I've a lad who plays hurling and is on the verge of being 'good' by the standards in our county. Are there any training DVDs to help him improve? He has been told he needs to strengthen his wrists. He is just 11 and will be thrown in to play under 12 and under 14 this year. What are the drills he must do, in his own time outside of training, to build up his wrists?

General discussion / Your best idea so far this month?
February 07, 2009, 11:45:05 PM
I don't often get new ideas and when I do they often prove to be failures. Today I came up with a simple one that actually works. People have asked me time and time again for my mobile phone number and I can never remember it so I would give them my home number instead. Today I wrote down the phone number in big black letters, took a photo of it with my mobile and then saved the photograph as my phone's wall-paper. Now every time I flip open the phone the number is right there.  8)

General discussion / Buy, swop and sell section.
February 07, 2009, 11:29:53 PM
Is there any chance that another division in the forum boards could be made to include a Buy, Swop and Sell section or even a sticky thread at the top of this forum? I've discovered that there are certain items that are particular to Ireland that are really difficult to source on ebay. If you support this idea please add to this thread.

I've just read the text of the statement by the 2008 panel of Cork senior hurlers on RTE.ie and as an outsider looking in it came across as a convoluted mishmash that leaves me none the wiser as to what is going on in Cork except that there is for want of a better expression 'a power struggle'.
