General discussion / trucks are big money boxes on wheels
December 20, 2013, 11:44:15 AM
Uk road tax will be levied on all visiting HGV vehicles from the beginning of april.  Im not sure of the ammount but this will disadvantage irish reg trucks and will only lead to counter measures by the irish gov. The whole thing stinks and only drives up the cost of doing businsess

George osbourne will announce the end of the tax disc this year from then on the authorities will rely on electronic data to enable them to tell that your vehicle is taxed. this system has been used for some time with the police able to tell driving behind you that your car wasn't taxed. you will be able to pay at the post office so you can queue there instead of the motor tax office or pay monthly by direct debit which is great news for bikers like me I wont have to tax the bike for sitting in the shed. now all thats needed is insurance policies that work monthly ie insurance for 3 or 4 summer months  8)

General discussion / things said that made you THINK
November 25, 2013, 10:19:07 AM
Every so often somebody says something that makes you stop and think.. It can be someone famous or someone you admire or your parent or team coach or captain.

Bishop desmond tutu
When the white man came to africa he had the bible and we had the land. He told us we should close our eyes and pray so we did. When we opened our eyes we had the bible and the white man owned the land..

I'm not too well up in the gadget department so i'm going to trust the good advice and experience of my fellow boarders. if you've seen something or got something new lately perhaps you would share your experience with that product or maybe someone you know has tried it and its crap or too expensive or it simply doesn't work or its great, the last word, saves time and £££££$$$$$$€€€€€'s.

I'm thinking of getting one of those tefal 1spoonful frying yokes. your supposed to be able to cook chips with just a spoonful of oil. sounds great.. no smells, no grease.. less power required! which begs the question why are chip shops not using them.. anyway they're not that cheap £159.99 in argus for the family sized one. £160 doesn't drop out of the sky so it would need to work.

any one get one?

ps and an important ps don't go into too much technical stuff. picture a sow looking into a watch...  ;)

just for the craic..  ;) while trawling various job websites I came across ads for male escort/stripagram/kissagrams. just wondering what it would be like to do this for the first time? what emotions would you experience.. (trauma for me anyway) what would be your approach? what would you say? would you copy a routine from some movie? what music would you choose? how much money would you charge? would you do gay gigs if you had to. (i.e assuming your straight). I saw a bit about some lad who does naked hoovering he just wears a pinny ladies just sit and watch him cleaning up their house maybe have a wee glass of wine while relaxing..

anyhow as with all good lawnseed threads there is a huge prize for the best story.
It should be fun and it should draw attention to the fact that these are desperate times. you could briefly outline a circumstance that has you in this predicament. I'm presuming that you wouldn't dream of this line of business unless you had to.. or maybe you'd actually like it. :D
we cant have smut/porn so lines like "I just said to her ride or what?" wont do.
there should be wooing and delicacy after all you want customer satisfaction (pretend your alan shatter) juicy bits should fade into a bedside light or bird singing..  :P I heard of a fella who scattered a trail of red rose petals from the door of his house right up the stairs to a candle light bath for his girlfriend.. emmm!! 8) so the standard is very high.

remember its a craic your telling.. so no boring lists. pretend your in the company of a few friends so embellishment is what they want to hear..

General discussion / questions unanswered
November 09, 2013, 10:45:17 AM
although I didn't see the press conference staged by the UK's intelligence agencies. I cant help wondering how do you get to be the head of mi6 or even join a spying organisation oops.. I meant 'intelligence gathering body' I've never saw any of these jobs advertised so where do they get their spies? are they political oppointments? do you move from the cops?  the army? or is it more likely that you are some toffs son/daughter who has nothing better to do?

I note that one slip during the conference and the power would be pulled, so who's pulling the plug on the head of intelligence who is above them and decides their revealing too much?

General discussion / Dear lawnseed..
October 28, 2013, 12:24:11 AM
following a litany of pm's recently seeking my advice on a wide range of problems and despite my many years of life experience I don't feel entirely comfortable dishing out advice on a one to one basis. so I have decided to start this thread where we can share our problems. safe in the knowledge that a problem shared is a problem halved. I don't want any oul smart arse remarks these are serious issues that demand tact and careful consideration. I think a certain degree of proper understanding that these are trying times and we should try to understand the mental anguish that our fellow board members and guests may be suffering.

dear lawnseed,

I am writing to tell you about my depressing problem. about two years ago I became the boss of a well known organisation who's name once rolled of the tongue of everyone on this island. we were seen as the leaders. helping people who needed it. all I had to do was ride the crest of the wave. then there were changes the guy who started us quit and the eejit who took over hadn't a clue then the job fell on me. to tell you the truth i'm already flat out in my own business and don't need the money and I just don't have the time or the patience to be bothered. to make matters worse the guy I hoped would take over got caught not declaring some money he received and there's no one else. I don't want to be seen as the one to drop the ball. so what do you think I should do?  (name and address supplied)

dear sick of it,
it sounds to me like the rot set in long before you took over that organisation so i'm sure you couldn't be held solely responsible for its demise. I see your a GP so you could always bow out on medical grounds just say your under too much pressure. i'm sure your supporters would understand given their age. I think you just like the prestige of being a leader but don't want the attention or being in the 'spotlight' its hard to say for sure i'm going to post this one on my new thread and let the boys mull it over for you.

well there's a man in a quandary what do you think?

General discussion / a minor adjustment...

hypothetically you have at your disposal one smallish nuclear device. (large city size) you can deploy it wherever you like and no one will ever ever ever know it was you. afterwards you will forget that you did it, and will be just as abhorred as everyone else.

what do you do? discuss

every time a top academic/professor/doctor/expert comes on the telly to discuss something the hairs standing on them or their eyebrows are about 2" long or they've brushed their hair over their face and they're peeping out of it like an owl looking out of a bush. what's going on? look at photos of Einstein  he looks like somebody plugged him into the mains!! what's that all about?

General discussion / jim stafford pip
September 15, 2013, 09:20:08 AM
mother of god!!!

here we have a typical example of everything that's wrong with the 'republic' of Ireland and one of the reasons I keep talking the dungout.

Jim is one of the 37 pips who'll be helping insolvent folk south of the border to sort out their finances.

unfortunately i cant get a link to Jim's disastrous rte radio interview. but in essence Jim's going to be working 'hard' to keep solicitors doctors accountants in houses that reflect "their status in society" its not going to be a problem for Jim if a paye worker has to drop down a few notches to a 2 up 2 down but his professional buddies need a palace in south county Dublin that reflects their position!

i thought their status was that they were broke ::)

that's the republic a country for the people run by the people as long as they're 'professionals'

sweet jez! following complaints Jim actually came back on the radio on a different show to defend his view which remains the same. long live the "republic". vive la liberte

probably because someone has put a brick through Jim's palatial mansion front window he has now issued an apology

search 'rte radio jim Stafford'

GAA Discussion / when men were men...?
August 26, 2013, 11:44:16 PM
this years championship is certainly something else it brings me back to 2002 when rte and the print meejah decided that Armagh were a 'physical' team. no matter where Armagh togged out they were 'physical'..  tg4 the only word I could understand was 'physical' i'm wondering now if there are any other 'physical' teams. the frees count has went round the clock, referees have lost it.. we need hawkeye.. players are being carried off.. rugby tackles are ok ::) and yet I don't hear of any 'physical' teams. what made Armagh 'physical' more than mayo or Donegal or the huge cork team nearly all over 6"?
