Hurling Discussion / Christy Ring programme on Tg4
March 25, 2008, 02:10:57 PM
Any one see the programme about christy on tg4 last night don't know if it was shown before, very interesting jesus he has some haul of medals 8 Ai's and 18 intercounty medals. Good stories about the 1953 when a couple of the galway lads and christy came to blows in a hotel after cork won the ireland, if that happened today you would hear plenty about it. Didn't realise he died aged only 58 he must have he must have been held in great esteem as  over 60 thousand peoplle attended his funeral

GAA Discussion / gaa players geedy i don't think so
December 18, 2007, 03:03:35 PM
Just a little story about something that happened over the weekend i decided to tell you about this because lately there have been a lot of things said in certain threads about how greedy the intercounty boys are. Last week somebody contacted me and told me about a little boy who was sick in Leinster he had just had a brain tumour removed and has another 16 weeks of hospital ahead of him after Christmas, they asked me would i be able to contact a player from our club as he was this young lads hero , i told them i would ask him , i contacted the player told him the story and without batting a eyelid  said that he would meet the young boy on sunday. On sunday i got a call saying how the little boy was in complete shock when he met the player and totally lifted his spirits. I suppose thats what makes the gaa so special the players are so approachable and we see them every day of the week. I'm sure loads of intecounty players give up their own time to make little kids dreams come through.

I see that Michael lynn from my own home town didn't turn up in court yesterday to answer questions regarding alleged loans of €80 million to banks . What i can't for the life understand is how the banks were so relaxed when giving loans for €5 million on properties just on a solicitors undertaking, i can't belief they didn't do any searches themselves. if i want a mortgage they want to know what i had for breakfast I'd say heads are going to roll before this is all over

Going on the last 10 years the connaught club championship seems to be the most competitive provincial championship. Since 1998 when Corifin were the 1st team to bring the Andy Merrigan cup across the Shannon 4 other teams have also won the cup. Crossmolina , Ballina , Caltra and Salthill. Crossmolina and Ballina  have also lost in 2 finals.

Just wondering which you think is hardest got, Darragh o' Shea one of the finest midfielders of his generation and nearing the end of his career has been nominated for just his 4th Allstar while Henry Shefflin still in his prime has been nominated for his 7th.
i'd would  rate Darragh's achivement greater as i think there is more competition in the football. What do you think?
