I reelly like western films and Ive watched all of Clint eastwoods. I even like some of the realy old black an white films. I didnt see the onw with Brad Pit about Jesse James but i will watch it on DVD. Did any body see it and what did they think. I herd it was long.
Does anybody else like westerns. What you favorit.
TombStone
Debbie does Dallas
Also a massive Clint fan. Can't get enough of the spaghettis. The Jesse James film was watchable and is available to download illegally anywhere.
john wayne is the best, they even callled an airport after him..
Westerns are really 1950's and 1960's A4SA, nowadays most younger people don't really like them, they're too predictable and they all seem to have racist undertones that aren't politically correct anymore.
I would rather watch comedy movies like 40yo Virgin, Meet the Parents and so on, sometimes, of course I like to watch current foreign classics, you know the type, Almodovar movies and that sort of thing, you should try and broaden your horizons a wee bit, you'd never know what you'll find. Probably the best thing to do would be to watch some other Clint Eastwood movies, non-westerns, for example movies like "Play Misty for Me", "Every Which Way But Loose" and "In the Line of Fire" would be good starts.
Other movies I would recommend would be "Flags of Our Fathers" and then maybe "Letters from Iwo Jima" to get into the foreign films.
Hope you enjoy them.
John Wayne is the main man, some great ones with Victor McLaughlin, and of course as Rooster Cogburn
Rooster Cogburn.
Anyways, A4SA - the western is a tremedous genre. Couple of new ones out which are quite good with Robert Duvall in them.
The Outlaw Jose Wales one of the greats. He sure was a tough cookie!
Hate Westerns with a passion.
Find them all very predictable
Same sh1te different film

Not even close to the best.
Agree with O'Neill........Sergio Leone westerns are cinema classics
Also have a soft spot for Shane :)
True Grit is a favourite for me. Roosters line "fill your hands you son of a bitch" lives long in the memory :)

At least I offered one up for discussion ;)
A one-legged cowboy goes into a bar.
- "I'm here to inspect your whiskey", he says.
"In what capacity are you here?", asks the barman.
- "Hopalong Capacity".
(The coat should be given to the original perpetrator who, to be fair, was drunk)
Bad Day at Black Rock - just brilliant.
A mate of mine loves Paint Your Wagons. Watches it over and over again. I don't get.
Pale Riders was a good show.
Westerns are films about Good vs Evil. What more do you want?
For me its Rio Bravo
Or Rio Bravo remade with most of the same people but by a different name which I can't remember?
Jack Palance was pure evil.
High Noon is regarded as the best western.
My favourite is the original 3.10 to Yuma
I've always liked Jimmy Stewart acting in westerns, "Shenandoah" and "Where the river Bends" being my favourites.
Of the more recent westerns "Wyatt Earp" and "Unforgiven" are probably the best
Agree that the original 3.10 from Yuma was a classic
City Slickers or Wild Wild West, two of the classics.
Good and all as they were, the big problem I had with Clint is that he's invulnerable (thus predictable) in all his films, he never seems to get shot or suffer serious injury in any film, (save The Beguiled if memory serves). Didn't like Unforgiven as it was a bit too revisionist; on the other hand, The Good The Bad & The Ugly was very good (and also subtly anti-war). Leone's Once Upon A Time In The West (though long) was perhaps the best of the Spaghettis.
Usually liked John Waynes westerns for sheer entertainment value (see The War Wagon for e.g.) Don't agree the The Searchers was the best western made (people foolishly giving heed to Scorcese seem to think it is) - much prefer Shane or My Darling Clementine. Honourable mentions to Gunfight At The Ok Corral, The Magnificent Seven, Red River and Dodge City.
I always liked 'Young Guns'. Thought it was pretty well done
I thought the remake of 3:10 to Yuma was very well done, well worth a watch :)
'The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance' is one of my favourites. Lee Marvin plays the best baddie ever - until Javier Bardem showed up in 'No Country For Old Men'.
the josey whales series was a classic you'd have to be a complete movie philistine not to appreciate it. and its much better than some of the hollywood cack thats around today.

Good call Hardy, also No country is classic western, albeit with the baddie riding off into the sunset.
Unforgiven staring Clint is probably the best western
I loved Tombstone, and I like a lot of the older ones as well.
When I lived in Arizona, I used to bring visitors down to the Old Tucson Movie Studios, it was amazing how 'familiar' it seemed when you walked around, or into the saloon or 'bank' etc. I'd say it's used in a tonne of those older Westerns.
the good the bad and the ugly - best western ever made
unforgiven - close second
John Wayne was definitely a hero of mine growing up - Sons of Katie Elder, True Grit and Rio Bravo were three of my favourites. But old Clint has the title for me
Great thread lads.
My fave Western of all is The Outlaw Josey Whales closely followed by They Died with their Boots On with Erroll Flynn which I loved as a kid and stiil can't outgrow for some reason.
I don't know if Bad day at Blackrock is strictly a Western but it is a class movie with imo an amazing cast, Tracy, Borgnoine, Marvin, Ryan etc. A great film for the rainy Sunday.
The magnificent 7.
JUst watched True Grit, great movie.
Rooster: When's the last time you saw Ned Pepper?
Quincy: I don't remember any Ned Pepper.
Rooster: Short feisty fella, nervous and quick, got a messed-up lower lip.
Quincy: That don't bring nobody to mind. A funny lip?
Rooster: Wasn't always like that, I shot him in it.
Quincy: In the lower lip? What was you aiming at?
Rooster: His upper lip.
just after watching Chisum on channel 5 class film and based on a true story
High Noon
Best western, and not a kick in the arse off best film, ever made

Great movie...added bonus of having one of my heroes Glen Campbell in it...even though he's a shite actor :-\
Hang em and Hang em high is a cracker too.
I love Westerns. In no particular order
Stagecoach (The original John Wayne version - not the Bing Crosby version)
The Searchers
Once Upon a Time in the West
The Good, The Bad, The Ugly
Dodge City (Errol Flynn version)
The Three Amigos
The Outlaw Josey Wales is sure class. Love it when he spits a big baccy loaded gob onto the carpet bagger's nice white suit! Some of the modern takes on the Western haven't been bad. Unforgiven is already a classic and I even have a soft spot for Dancing with Wolves and Open Range.
Straight to Hell
