Title: Poor quality journalism
Post by: armaghniac on October 19, 2007, 06:13:43 PM
The standard of factual accuracy in many GAA reports is poor. I suggest we document these.

Today Colm Keys in the Indo
"For the third successive year Cavan find themselves in Ulster's preliminary round from where only Armagh have ever won a provincial title"

But Cavan are the only other county to have won an Ulster title from Ulster's preliminary round (in 1945). No mention of "in recent years" here.

I also read a ridiculous preview in Gaelic Life of the Cavan Gaels - St Eunans match where Eunans were tipped despite 2Cavan's proud record in the competition2

WE'VE NEVER WON THE f**king THING!

Gaelic Life is absolutely terrible for lazy county stuff. seems good on Tyrone, derry etc but the Cavan stuff is pathetic. Their star man is usually way off the mark and they never bother their holes getting up to date club pics, so it's always a counrt player who they can get from sportsfile that they use for club stuff

Incredibly lazy. People notice this stuff lads.

It can be a bit sloppy and does have the odd mistake, but it's still a decent read in my opinion.
