Ok - Leinster championship beginning to bubble up nicely ........LOL
I was away last weekend so I missed things but it seems Kildare struggled to beat Wicklow.
We are fighting light with missing/suspended players so I cannot see us pulling off a win here.
But............you never know. If we win then it's Nowhere this year for Kildare, as opposed to Newbridge. We cuda/shuda won the Qualifier last year but we simply ran out of petheral.
Kildare engaging in psy ops to confuse the Larries yesterday, obviously.

Since they met in the championship last year, Longford have lost Sean Mc Cormack, Barry Gilleran, Diarmuid Masterson , Peter Foy all retired. Darren Gallagher, Rian Brady and Dessie Reynolds travelling and exams. Connor Berry struggled with injury and taking a break. Shane Donohoe on UN duty and Robbie Smyth also absent. Pádraig Mc Cormack is only returning from injury and at present Donie Mc Elliott is suspended. Darragh Doherty having started 5 league games also out at present injured.. So possibly 11 who played in the qualifiers last year out.. Would have Kildare as hot favourites for this one

Longford just need to show the right attitude regardless of who's playing. Kildare are akin to Man United, rudderless. I have time for Cian O'Neill but he's there 1 year too long. Depressing scenario Kildare find themselves in.
We'll both play down each other's chances Dinny. Makes sense the mood we're in.
Shur who knows...........amongst the caoining a good game of football might break out.

If Kildare have first choice defenders as bad as Jones,Smalling and Young i'd give Longford a real chance of winning.

Worse we have defenders who don't know how to defend 1:1.

Possibly, I enjoyed the qualifier last year, even had a father of two of the Longford players have a pop at me for daring to celebrate the Kildare goal in front of him ;D
If longford are in any way right they'll beat our rabble

Don't think I was at this one - maybe I was. I cannot recall.
Final score was Kildare 3-09 Longford 2-09.
(sorry about the size of the team sheet - I robbed from Twitter)
I am beginning to feel confident!
Just realise who Kildare had as centre and full forward ::)
Our own centre forward was no slouch either . Team released earlier today in a break of the traditional keeping of team under wraps. Still a decent outfit when you consider how many gone from last years championship panel. Mood in the camp is good . Happy that the game is in Tullamore and not Portlaoise , a ground that all Longford teams struggle in .
Imagine losing that pair to Cork.. Holy ffs
Any point winning tomorrow?
Dublin would eat the pick of the two sides :-[
Perhaps the Longford players will be motivated by playing Dublin at home in front of a packed atmosphere less empty Croke Park.
The apathy around Kildare is at an all time low, less than 1% of the population of the county will be at the game. Today for the same price you can go to the 1k Guineas, the new Grandstand for joe public would exceed the Croke Park or Aviva corporate experience and all kids u18 are free.
The Leinster SFC Champion is dead, The Munster SFC Championship is dead. The GAA are at a cross roads, they picked the wrong path 15 years ago, though now its probably too late to save Leinster.
How does the Kildare team today compare to the one that started v Mayo last year?
Are all the changes negative, no new young bolter ?
Predicted Kildare team today.
Donnellan, Dempsey, D Hyland, M Hyland, P Kelly, Doyle, K Cribben, Feely, Conway, Slattery, McCormack, O'Flaherty, Tyrrell, Brophy, N Flynn
No Mick O'Grady, Johnny Byrne, Kevin Flynn, Tommy Moolick, Dan Flynn, Paul Cribben from that game or no Niall Kelly off the bench.
Dempsey the only u20 from last year's AI winning side starting, promising young players such as Luke Flynn, Aaron Masterson and Jack Robinson no current interest in Kildare.
Apathy from players to supporters to clubs. I was at a club game yesterday, guts of a 100 at it, mention of Kildare zero, mention of Carlow/Meath that was on at the same time 1, and that was me.
Jazes Dinny.
Can I buy you a cup of tea at half-time?

55 mins played Kildare 1-15 Longford 2-11
Full time Kildare 1-17 Longford 2-14. Extra time to be played.
Game of the championship so far
Half time in extra time Kildare 1-21 to Longford 3-15
Such a shame that this game didn't get live TV coverage. Was always going to be a competitive contest
Replay required to find a winner. O'Connor Park next Sunday at 3pm.

The provincial councils hung on to right to hold replays after extra time for the moolah.

Right, I thought all games before the provincial semi-finals had to be settled. Probably mixing it up with the fact that extra-time must be played.

And For this replay. if level after extra time an extra 2x10 minute period of extra time will be required and if still level then a penalty competition.
Judging by the highlights, the Larries were cruelly denied victory at the death, twice over. They are still in it but I'd be singing the blues if I was a Larry, oh cruel life!
Dems the breaks Main Street - cuda, shuda etc.
But a draw was a fair result in a roller coaster game that entertained everyone there, including the Laoises/Westmeaths that hung on (Jazes, their game was shockingly bad and, had it gone to extra time, there could have been a riot)
Never got in contact with Dinny to buy him that cup of tea. There was great craic with myself and the brother with 5 Kildare lads who were hilarious with the quips. I can see how frustrated some Lilly supporters are so Dinny, you are not alone.
So, all in all, 10/10 for sheer entertainment. Some great scores, lively banter, thrills and spills.
Must say, as a nod to the Offaly boys, Tullamore is a wonderful venue now, having being a kip before.
Here's to next Sun

It's not tea I need :)
Kildare are very frustrating, a lot of talent in the county in and out of that squad. O'Neill struggles on the tactical side (game plan and team selection) and technically our tackle lets us down repeatedly, the backroom team is a revolving door so a lot of issues are O'Neills own making. The players though, their body language is not good, low on confidence and my perception is they don't have that pride in the jersey as for example Longford would. It means we are inconsistent and always vulnerable to a run. Throw in a Leinster Championship where one team is financially doped to the gills and that same team get to play the semi-final and final at home, players aren't stupid, motivation can be hard.
Kildare epitomise the malaise that's currently inflicted the championship, they should be better, they should be better supported. If they played in any other province, they would be better supported and possibly an AI contender but they don't so are stuck in the shadows. Meath are similar and are getting a bounce this year and people will point to it and look Meath can rise from the shadows, if Meath can overcome Laois, they won't be within 10 of Dublin or maybe they get a moral victory but they won't make the super 8 and will get relegated next year, then what?
It will be another good game next Sunday, the reward a 7 day turnaround, 3 games on the bounce and your playing the AI Champions. Superb fixture planning....

Ain't that the truth. I was leaving the Longford game numerous times as it looked done but they kept rising from the dead. Was more interested in seeing Longford sneak a winner than us scraping an undeserved draw. Super game, had everything. Great game management from Longford at the end of normal time to run down the clock, keep the ball and in the last 10 seconds create an incursion inside the 45 and get a shot off knowing that Kildare wouldn't have time to get back up the field if it went over. And of course it dramatically came back off the post. Some sore bodies today I'd say, the hits in extra time could be felt in the stand.
Perhaps the winner of the replay should put out their U20s against Dublin , to give their squad a rest for the Round 2 qualifier? Can you imagine the media reaction to it!

It would make sense. If next Sunday's game is as physical as yesterday's neither team will be in shape to take on the best and probably most physical team in the country.
Was at the match yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it. Kildare scored a point directly from a mark in the first half. A quick check on google states that this was illegal. Has their been a change in the law regarding this.

I misread it ::)- the player who makes the mark can score but if another player takes the kick then they cannot score from it

The shoulder that Cian O'Donoghue took was a monster hit from the Longford man.
Great entertainment throughout. Credit to both teams.
I'd chance Aaron O'Neill in goal the next day and give Niall Kelly a starting place ahead of Brophy or O'Flaherty. We're going nowhere fast this summer but nice to have another day out all the same. Would love another crack at Carlow/Poacher!!

Ok...back in Tullamore. Wind is back as well!
Scoreless draw on the cards!

Half time Kildare 1-4 Longford 0-4
Kildare well ahead now. Kildare 1-14 Longford 0-7 53 minutes played.
June and the little lads get the boot :-\
FT Kildare 1-18 Longford 0-10. Reward for Kildare is Dubin in Croke Park next weekend while Longford play Carlow away.
Ouch :(
Longford got the better of that deal
