Pretty sure this thread is about the semi final rather than the final?
Just see on another website that Leitrim have dropped 4 players from their panel , are they shooting themselves in the foot ? . I know the 2 of those involved and I can say if the 2 Beirnes ever decided to settle in Longford they'd be more than welcome to join up with us . I know Tomas's work commitments , have met him him at 5 in the morning picking up a load . while other evenings he would park up the lorry in the yard ,be picked up for training and return around 11 and go off to deliver load. I know himself and his father were both disappointed with the treatment of Connor of the year. Think London will relish coming over with this news now and a first Connaught final appearance cannot be ruled out now.

The element of surprise is now gone. London already talking about where the Connacht final will be played and the Leitrim manager being a cute boor by putting out a story about dropping 4 boys for acting the maggot.
Leitrim to win.

They're all on Hogan Stand, crazily active forum for a county so small. Lots of talk of the 'North Leitrim Taliban' sabotaging the four poor young south Leitrim bucks. You'd swear they were North and South Korea.
Still don't get how Hogan Stand is as popular as it is. I't's the only forum I've ever encountered that has closing times.

I went to boarding school with their auld lad. Albeit he was a few years ahead. We had a phrase to describe a complete and utter loon as a "lakes merchant".
Auld Beirne was a lakes merchant.
Short of going out with axes to murder nuns, puppy dogs and cute little seal cubs, I cannot think of what these lads could have done to merit this. Now feck me if they went out on the sauce and were spotted and word got back then this is a terrible shame. A root up the hole in the confines of the dressing room surely would have sufficed here.
The four lads were dropped for been on the beer. They were reported after some clib posted pictures of them in a pub on Facebook!!
This is the third year this has happened under this management. The policy is ridiculous as it offers no reprieve whatsoever, 1 slip-up and your gone. If a lad has been dedicated and committed all year then he deserves better for one mistake. At the end of the day these three lads are amateurs in their early 20s. The rule is there for a reason but the punishment does not fit the crime; would a yellow card not suffice! The lads were coming from a club championship game ffs.
The lads are a massive loss to Leitrim, all four would be near certain to feature at some stage against London. Based on what has happened in the same circumstances previous years then there is not a chance of the lads getting back.
Quote from: LeppinMick on May 30, 2013, 09:40:04 AMthese three lads are armatures

Easy win for Leitrim. People backing London, bookmakers wet dream.
Leitrim had a big win over Armagh recently. I think they should have enough to beat London at home.

Sure we beat Dublin by five in a challenge match. With four important players thrown off the panel - their two best backs included - and facing a team that have had form both in championship as of late and against Leitrim themselves people declaring heavy favourites in this is hasty in the extreme.
the bookies in carrick have london as favourites
leitrim without mossy beirne wont win midfield
williams at centre back is too loose to mark mulvey
mckeons supply of quality ball from the half back line is a serious loss
as a leitrim man i am not looking forward to this on sunday and it might need a 2nd day to settle it
I presume there will be extra time in this one similar to arrangements in Ruislip games?
I expect Laythrum to win , maybe not handily but should get there alright.

T'would be novel to see London in a Connacht Final. This is their big chance. It's hard to see it all the same even though there won't be a big gulf in class between the teams today. If Leitrim had to travel to Ruislip, there would be a chance of an upset. But in Carrick Leitrim are always hard to get on top of. Looking at Championship form from last year, Leitrim got hammered by Mayo, while Sligo only lost to Mayo by 2 points. So you'd think the team that beat Sligo would be favourites today?

We d have preferred a replay in Castlebar that day I m sure!
But it s a good point. Maybe something to do with cost of travel for London? Maybe somebody can clear this up? it s always been a replay for champioship games - 3 years ago in Ruislip being the exception.
I don't think replays are permitted for provincial semi finals and onwards though could be open for correction in that one? I assume the extra time was for a first round game?

Clearly they want Leitrim to win. It's a money thing. London already beating Sligo cost the Connacht Council allot of squids (which ironically this replay will make back). But London in a final with Mayo would mean a serious loss of revenue compared to Leitrim getting there.

Hard luck to London today, really hope they can finish the job next week. Once again however the GAA make a ridiculous decision were London are concerned. This replay should be in Ruislip!
No extra time and the replay not played in Ruislip? no matter the BS reasons it doesn't make much sense.
As for the game it was poor enough stuff but at least it was close contest unlike the last two Connacht games i was at. Losing Mulligan was a huge blow to Leitrim, London should have scored 4 goals best point of the game was scored by London player in the 2nd half.
Leitrim hung in their and even had a chance to win with a late free but blew it. Almost 8k at the game today will be lucky to get 4k in the Hyde next weekend.

Yeah that is supposed to be a home game for Galway alright. There is a home and away arrangement in place (obviously excluding provincial finals as the minor final is generally a curtain raiser to the senior final).
The last Galway v Mayo minor championship game was the Connacht final in 2010 in Castlebar

QuoteLondon left torn by emotions on day of contrasts while Leitrim rue the concession of two soft goals
Both sides will have to regroup for the replay in Roscommon
Mon, Jun 24, 2013, 01:00
On a day like this, it's reasonable to ask the London manager to toss a coin for his emotions. Paul Coggins had just watched his team come within a couple of minutes of a Connacht final after all. To congratulate or to commiserate – that is the question. Was he overjoyed at having competed for so long? Or was he annoyed at having thrown it away?
"Oh, well I'm not annoyed at all," he said. "The game is over for the time being. I am not annoyed in any shape or form. That performance there, the lads couldn't have given any more. The lads that came on got into the game, helped to change the game which is what I suppose they are there to do. I am very very happy with the performance."
Coggins has been fighting the good fight in London for a quarter of a century now. He's had everything put his way – disrespect, pity, pats on the head. Would this now mean that teams would take them seriously?
"I hope they're not going to take us too seriously," he laughed. "We're okay if they take us the way we are. We just work hard, we do the best we can over there, we train like any other county team. We've just got to make sure we bring that to the field and we did today.
"We've got to make sure we get ourselves composed and ready for action next week. We fly back tomorrow, we'll get things right in the dressing room tonight, we'll talk to the lads and we'll be ready for the same thing next week."
Barney Breen was no less sanguine standing at the other end of the pitch. Having lost his best player after 15 minutes and given away two soft goals, he was happy just get another day out of it.
"Listen, it was a tough game, we were expecting a tough game. I felt some of our fellas got special attention and I don't feel they got enough protection from the referee. We felt we didn't play well. It was 10 minutes before we got into it and we played well then.
"We were just starting to build up some momentum when they got the first goal, against the run of play I thought. But in fairness to London they had themselves in a position where they weren't out of the game and the two goals got them back in."

Amazing how the Ruislip game always goes to extra time if level !!. I'd have thought a similar situation would apply on the rare occasions London would have a Connacht fixture.
To those of ye saying extra time only applies before Semi finals -do keep up ladeens -that was changed back to the all games go to replays except the Ruislip/NY games - Congress 2011 wasn't it?

FFS. A good weekend ruined >:(
The Sunday Game is currently on Premier Sports on Sky 428, for those in Britain looking to watch highlights of the London game!
You can't imagine the silence when London scored their second goal. Even London supporters seemed shocked by it. An absolute roller-coaster of a match, complaints about quality be frigged.
I was surprised how silent the crowd was throughout the game. Leitrim had a big support probably around 6,000 of the near 8,000 but they weren't very vocal, then again it wasn't us they were playing. (the team they always want to beat)
You have to hand it to Prenty. He has the answers ready before the questions are thought of. London get a home first round game guaranteed every year. The price - if they progress subsequent games are in Connacht. Most people would think - sure they'll never win a game and be left with egg on their faces but Prenty had all loose ends tied down.
The replay more than makes up for our defeat, even less the extra expenses London get. You make your own luck they say.....
My oul' sources inform me Gottasche expects to be fit for London's visit to the real Hyde Park. His injury seemed minor enough and I wasa bit srprised he was called ashore so swiftly.
Mulligan is making the same intimations but he had the calf injury entering the game and exasperated it very easily in the game itself. Even if he features I don't see it being for very long and he's more likely than not to break down.
Mulligan gone again. Was obvious last week that a calf muscle injury like that would never be right in seven days. London destroying Leitrim, 7-1 after 20 minutes.
London 1-10 Leitrim 0-1, they are in serious trouble now. Big wind but I'd doubt they'll pull back a 10+ deficit without Mulligan.
2-10 0-1 Game as good as over already. London v Mayo Connacht final and Mayo will get the home final they wanted.
2-10 to 0-02 HT. London showing Connacht what Connacht football is. Genuinely fantastic work-rate and skill on display. Hardly ever seen a hungrier team. London are for real.
Fair play to London.. Unless a miracle happens they are in their first ever Connacht final.
2-11 to 0-6 now but Leitrim will need at least one goal to win this.
Credit to Leitrim some fight from them in this 2nd half 1-1 in the last few mins 2-11 1-10 now
2-11 to 1-10 now, game on!! Around 8 minutes left.
Were 15 points down now only one point in it and it's all Leitrim can they pull it off?
London win by a point
Congratulations to London
Well done London, but Leitrim losing 4 of there best players through indiscipline, and mulligan just is way too much for a county of their size. They missed a free to push to extra time. Well done London, but Leitrim losing 4 of there best players through indiscipline, and mulligan just is way too much for a county of their size. They missed a free to push to extra time. I feel mayo are the real losers of this Connacht championship as they will not be tested into qtr finals and no matter what you say you learn nothing winning easy. If mayo get a Tyrone or Armagh etc....could be caught.
The alternative finalists to London were Leitrim and Sligo, both of whom London beat, so it would be hard to imagine either Sligo or Leitrim offering any more competition to Mayo than London will.
lol ;D
Do you always lol at the harsh reality of your countys standing?

When we get rid of walsh's handicapping management we'll see our standing next yr. As far as i am concerned with walsh at the helm its not a true reflection of where we are.
If eoh wants to get into the detail all he has say walsh brings on f quinn (nt a scoring forward) before one of best scoring prospects niall murphy and then he's playing a sweeper 7 pts down with 15 to go....idiot
Walsh did the same tactic against kildare last yr with the wind and 9 pts down which resulted in us scoring 4 pts...

You're expanding your aim to Sligo now, larrin?
Who's your next victim - surely not the poor Lovelies, they're already in a bad enough state right now and you might push them over the edge.
Crazy game Leitrim almost turned around a 14 point game, Mulligan would have scored those last few frees . As Sligonian said above Leitrim can't afford to be missing many players as they simply don't have the panel. Hard to begrudge London they have beaten what was put in front of them & full credit to the Paul Goggins London are much improved from the side he took over. I hope they can give a decent account of themselves in the Connacht final they will certainly enjoy the build up.
Surely God Save the Queen as well as the Soldiers Song will have to be played at the Connacht Final?

Why Tony? Are you looking for districts under British rule to have this done? Would the six like this to be done as well? :P
I don't know, but discovering their team is in the Connacht Final (but not in Connacht) is sure going to confuse the cockneys :P
Has anyone made reference to the fact that there won't be a cow milked in London tonight?
Twitter awash with it all afternoon.Personally I thought mine (ie there won't be a racially motivated knife crime in London for a week) was much more original and nearer the Mark!
Where is Sligo's true standing Sligonian?

Sure Galway are in a Leinster Final? And sure Antrim play in Leinster also. Sure London Hurlers used to be in Ulster?
