Title: Thought jobs were scarce?
Post by: Hashtag on March 20, 2012, 10:05:10 AM
Hi all

I thought there was a real job crisis out there. We put an ad in the Belfast Telegraph, Sunday Life and couple of local papers last week. Office Manager job. Good pay (£30k a year). We have only had 4 enquiries for it. Strange. Was sort of expecting to be wading through 50 CVs at this stage.
Has the whole thing turned around?

Did you place the advert in the dating section?
Try Irelands Own.

I know that we (Cookstown also) have been advertising for quite a few jobs lately; and generally speaking it is difficult enough to get them filled.

I assume that the applicant has a high list of qualifications to bring. This may put off a lot of borderline applicants.

Unemployment in the North is 6.5%.

6-7 people out of every 100 is very low IMO

Compared to the late 70's/early 80's when employment was as high as 17-18%, then things are actually quite good, although pay may not be as high as we would like.

Its not though, I actually thought we were underselling the job with the advert. It just basically GCSE passes and experience at working in a busy office, good experience with Microsoft Office. Not too bad like. No management degrees or anything needed.
