Title: TuneIn Radio App.
Post by: laoislad on August 29, 2011, 06:08:57 PM
A brilliant free app for anyone with Android or Apple smartphones.
Just wondered what everyone listens to or are there any stations people found that are particularly good and worth adding?
At the moment all I have on my presets apart from the Irish stations are:

talkSport
Anfield FM
BBC Radio 5 live
Triple M.

Q101.2 West FM doesn't work properly on it, but seems everyother channel on the planet is great.

Really? It works fine for me any time I tune into the live games.

Have it on mine, good wee job. Would like to get the paid version of it especially as it's cheap (69p) but unfortunately Google checkout on the Andriod market doesn't take Maestro.  :-\

What's on the paid app?

You're Welcome.

One thing that is annoying is talkSport don't broadcast their live commentary matches over the internet stream.

A great little app! Are there any other must have apps? Not games now but ones that are helpful.

Typical, after months and months of screaming at the app to work, it works as soon as I mention it on here.

Viber is a great free app for calling and texting people that have the app on their smart-phones. Crystal clear reception over a wireless connection. My wife calls her brother in Asia the sound quality is unreal.

Another good one is PDA net, it lets you use your android phone as a modem to connect your laptop to the internet. You need to have a good 3G or 4G connection for this to work well.

Google Sky map is good for checking out the night sky.

What coverage does it need? 3G or wi-fi or wha?

As long as you can get data, anything from GPRS upwards.
Wi-fi will be best for listening at home especially if you have a capped mobile data allowance. If you're in a 3G coverage area it should work OK. If you only have EDGE coverage, streams up to 64kbps should be fine, higher bandwidth streams may see your phone buffering quite a lot. And if you only have GPRS, 32kbps streams are about the best you can get without regular buffering. At those low data rates, an AAC stream will usually be the best quality one. Another advantage of the 32kbps streams is that compared to the likes of 128kbps MP3 streams they will take a much smaller chunk of your data allowance for the same length of time (a 128kbps stream will gobble up around 1MB per minute, a 32kbps stream 1MB approx every four minutes) so even in a 3G coverage area are still useful to have.

if you have 500mb per month free would it use much of that Fin

Many thanks Fionn and Mayo. I will give some of those a try.
