Anyone know who has the Minor team to beat this year.
With all the Omagh CBS players, Tyrone will be hard to beat, also Armagh will be strong after last year. Anyone shed any light?

I've no idea who has the Monaghan minor team.
I'd say it is Bernie Murray again. Monaghan meant to have a very good minor team this year

Meath minor footballers were edged out by neighbours Cavan in the first round of the Ulster MFL today.
Minor manager Davy Dalton told the Meath Chronicle that he would be using the competition to assess players.
"We have a big panel and we want to give everyone a chance to make an impression," he said.
Meath were ahead by 0-5 to 0-4 at half-time, but changes and injuries disrupted fluency after the break and Cavan claimed a crucial late goal.
Meath will play Armagh next week in the second round at Crossmaglen.

CHARLIE Mulgrew's tenure as Donegal minor manager is off to a winning start, as they overcame a largely sluggish display to see off Fermanagh with a late burst in Letterkenny on Saturday.
With the game in the melting pot, Donegal hit 1-2 in the final ten minutes to get their Ulster Minor League campaign off to a winning start, with a 56th minute goal from Patrick McBrearty the key score.
Conor Gibbons, on as a first-half sub, playing on his home turf, popped over from 20 metres on 50 minutes to put Donegal two ahead (1-4 to 0-5), only for Ciaran McBrine to reduce the arrears.
Fermanagh were still in it as the game entered its crucial last five minutes, but with the clock on 56 minutes McBrearty effectively sealed the deal. The Kilcar man had showed flashes of his importance to the county side over and, after being moved from midfield to full-forward, he collected a quickly-taken free by Brandon Goodwin and from the edge of the square he made no mistake in picking his spot in the back of Conor Mohan's net.
St Eunan's pair Conal McGinley and Gibbons combined a minute later to tee up McBrearty for another point, while Christopher Barrett put the two goals between them with his second point of the day on 59 minutes.
In stoppage time, only a good close-range save from Mohan prevented Gibbons from bagging a third Donegal goal, after he was fed well by McBrearty. But the two points had already been sealed, though there is plenty of work to be done in parts - something that was outlined in a particularly disappointing first-half.
Between them, the sides shared 16 wides in the opening period. While Donegal miscued on six occasions, the Erne men hit ten wides in a wasteful half that also saw them clip the woodwork with two efforts.
It had taken eight minutes for Donegal to get the opening score of the game - and the contest's first three pointer. Leon Kelly found McBrearty with an excellent pass and after the Kilcar man drove forward he lofted a neat pass over the full-back to find the lurking Brandon Goodwin. The Bundoran man didn't need a second invite as he crashed home off the underside of the crossbar.
It didn't set the tone for what was to follow however, as wide-after-wide followed until Christopher Barrett ended the famine on 19 minutes. Kelly was again the provider, with Barrett finding his range from out the right-hand side. Fermanagh's frustrations in front of the posts continued and as the half drew to a close Ciaran McBrine was sprung off the bench - and it was he who finally lofted their first white flag of the afternoon with a stoppage-time free.
McBrine took his tally to four points in the second-half and carried most of the green and white threat. While Fermanagh pulled level twice in part two, McBrearty saved the edgy tension with the killer goal on 56 minutes to get Donegal off to winning ways, with a meeting against neighbours Derry (who drew with Tyrone at the weekend) this Saturday next up for Mulgrew and company.

How come Meath and Dublin play in the Ulster league? Is there no Leinster league? Am only asking in case some nutter like Sheehy decides to start a row about 'nordies' and all that crap.
There is a Leinster league as far as I know, but I don't think its as well run and regular as the Ulster one. Presumably that's why Meath and Dublin choose to head up north. Perhaps the standard of competition is better up here too.

opt to play in this one. Means we don't show our hand to other Leinster sides and in general the standard is better.
Its not that long since dublin and meath had teams entered in both leagues for the purposes of sorting out their squads.

Minors draw with old rivals
TYRONE...........1-07
DERRY.............0-10
By KEVIN KELLY
The new inter county season for Tyrone minors began on Saturday morning when they played out a draw with neighbours Derry at Plunkett Park Pomeroy in the opening game of the Ulster minor league.
Derry looked the livelier side in the first half and with the wind at their backs they established a 0-6 to 0-2 but a late goal from Trillick's Richard Donnelly meant that the Red Hands only trailed by the minimum margin at the break.
The wind wasn't as big a factor in the second half as both sides found scores difficult to come by against the respective defences and in the end it took a Darragh Donnelly point two minutes into injury time to ensure Tyrone didn't lose first day out. It was a competitive game throughout and no doubt the Tyrone management team of Raymond Munroe and Cathal McAnenly will be happy with some aspects of the display.
It was Derry who were out of the traps quickly with two points in as many minutes from Ciaran Devlin and Fintan Bell but Tyrone responded through Keifer Morgan and Harry Og Conlon to level matters. At this stage though it was the visitors who took control of things and efforts from Bell and defender Tiarnan Rafferty gave them a deserved four point cushion. Tyrone though then pounced for a well crafted goal as Morgan offloaded the ball to Richard Donnelly who finished well to the bottom right hand corner of the net to leave the interval score line 1-3 to 0-7.
Both sides managed just a single point between them in the third quarter and it went the way of Derry via substitute Emmett Bradley although they almost got in for a goal with Aaron Devlin denied by keeper Mark McReynolds. Two points in quick succession from substitute Enda McGahan brought Tyrone level and when another replacement Jonathan Munroe put them in front with eight minutes to go they looked as though they could go on to claim victory. Derry though came with a late charge that yielded points from substitute Christopher Spiers and Tony Martin as they lead changed hands again. Tyrone though refused to panic and Darragh Donnelly came up with the equaliser with a well taken point from out on the left wing. Next up for Tyrone is another home fixture this weekend against Westmeath.

GAA really lacks common sense at time, could they not have altered certain fixtures in line with senior league games. gives boys chance to play with crowds watching as a curtain raiser. For example-surely the dates for Armagh V Down could have changed to be a curtain raiser this saturday night!

Donegal and Derry players battle for the ball in Celtic Park in Derry on Saturday
Charlie Mulgerw's Donegal Minors played out a well-deserved draw with cross-border rivals Derry at Celtic Park on Saturday.
Despite a late rally of points, Derry failed to find the winning score and, perhaps, the best chance to seal the two points on offer fell to Donegal's Leon Kelly who put the ball wide inside injury time.
On reflection, a draw was, perhaps, a fair result but with Derry kicking 13 wides in the game, they will feel the more aggrieved of the two teams.
The visitors opened the scoring in the 13th minute when Patrick McBrearty converted a free from 20 yards out.
The Oak Leafers responded with two scores and took the lead in the 15th minute through well taken points from Jack Kielt and Tiernan Rafferty.
Donegal regained their one point advantage when Sean McGarvey pointed from 35 yards out and, soon after, Chris Barrett sent his effort between the posts in the 17th minute.
Derry's Jack Kielt restored parity for Martin McWilliams' team but Donegal responded brilliantly with two tremendous points from Patrick McBrearty and a free kick from Conor Givens to give the Tir Chonaill men a three point lead.
Just before the half time whistle, Derry half forward Alan Devlin reduced the deficit to two points with a score from out on the right. Devlin shrugged off several challenges from the Donegal defence to put the ball between the posts in the 29th minute.
Both sides exchanged early wides at the start of the second half before Derry equalised through a fantastic point on the stand side from Jack Kielt and a free kick from Finton Bell in the 38th minute.
Charlie Mulgrew's team took the lead again moments later when Patrick McBrearty scored his fourth point and second free kick of the game in the 39th minute.
Going into the last 20 minutes of the game, there wasn't much between the two sides.
Subsitute Fergal Duffin got Derry back on level pegging with a fantastic point in the 44th minute before Tiernan Rafferty secured the lead for the Oak Leafers in the 47th minute.
Donegal's Chris Barrett and Derry's Tiernan Rafferty exchanged points before the visitors scored a well taken goal in the 52nd minute.
An impressive burst of pace and strength on the byline from Patrick McBrearty caused major problems for the Derry back line. As the powerful midfielder attempted to send the ball towards goal, Derry goalkeeper Kevin Farren parried the ball into the path of Chris Barrett who fisted the ball into the net.
With eight minutes remaining, Derry's reply was impressive. A Donegal victory looked likely but the Oak Leafers scored three points without reply to ensure a share of the spoils.

Cavan 0-11
Dublin 0-10
Cavan continued their winning ways against Leinster's finest last Saturday afternoon when they pipped Dublin at Kingspan Breffni Park to pick up their second win in as many games in the Ulster Minor Football League.
Mickey Graham's team built on the previous weekend's win over Meath with another encouraging display, where they conceded just one point from play over the hour, against a Dublin side managed by former Cavan senior boss Val Andrews, as they prepare for their Ulster championship clash with Fermanagh in a little over two months' time.
The hosts were dominant in the opening stages of this game but kicked three wides in the first two minutes, before Fergal Flanagan - operating at centre-forward - got them off the mark in the fourth minute with a slick point which was backed up by Shannon Gaels sharpshooter Nevin O'Donnell cracking over a terrific free with his left boot just outside the 45 metre line.
More off-target shooting brought the Cavan wides' tally up to five after eight minutes of play and allowed Dublin to settle into the game by the quarter hour mark as corner-forward Darragh Mylod struck a brace of frees to tie things up at 0-2 each.
Jack Brady announced his arrival in the game with a 20-metre free soon afterwards, but for all their possession the home side failed to push on and this time Adam Caffrey punished more indiscipline at the back from Cavan with a simple placed ball. The next attack saw the visitors pull off a flowing move across their full-forward line and only for Conor Gilsenan racing off his line to block Mylod's effort Dublin would have been in front.
It was perhaps the wake-up call that Cavan yearned as the next three points would be theirs with Brady to the forefront.
Five minutes from the break the Ramor ace raced out from full-forward to fetch possession 45 metres from goal, which he did brilliantly, and was pushed in the back in the process. He made converting the resultant free look easy and curled over two more sweet points from play in the next three minutes to push the young Breffni men three in front.
The capital boys didn't lie down though and some nice inter-changing through the middle saw them draw their fourth scoreable free which Caffrey duly sent over the close the half at 0-6 to 0-4.
Graham re-jigged things for the second-half and introduced Paul McEvoy, Shane Clarke and Karl Duke to the fray, but it was the Dubs that made the better start as Caffrey's third accurate free brought the difference down to the bare minimum.
O'Donnell responded in kind for the would-be winners, but continued fouling when under pressure at the back from his team-mates allowed Caffrey again to bring Dublin within a white flag.
A 20-metre free from Brady and some excellent work from James Madden to rob the Dublin full-back of possession and fire over restored a three-point lead for Cavan, but the Sky Blues recovered well with Caffrey (free) and substitute Donagh McCabe finding the target.
With a nervy ten minutes to go, Dublin rallied and pierced Cavan's rearguard with the ball looking destined for Gilsenan's net but Colin Woods rolled his shot just wide and the hosts were let off the hook.
Crucially, Graham's team didn't panic and instead lifted themselves as Madden found Flanagan inside for a settling point and a poor kick-out from Dublin's John Brian Carthy saw Lavey's Karl Duke keep his head and drill over a much needed point after Caffrey had registered his sixth free of the game.
With time almost up, Dublin hunted for a winning score but they were denied by a full-back line inspired by Jason McLoughin, who had been superb throughout, and were made to settle for a Woods free on the eve of the long whistle which left them one short in the end.
Cavan: Conor Gilsenan; Shane Harten, Jason McLoughlin, Cian McPhilips; Conor Moynagh, Aaron Smith, Darragh Sexton; Turloc Mooney, James Madden (0-1); Chris Conroy, Fergal Flanagan (0-2), Nevin O'Donnell (0-2, 2f); Cian Byrne, Jack Brady (0-5, 3f), Enda O'Reilly. McBrearty missing for Donegal minors' game with Tyrone
Ulster Minor League Group B - Donegal v Tyrone - MacCumhaill Park, Saturday, 12 noon
By Alan Foley
Patrick McBrearty's trip to Berlin with Carrick Vocational School's transitition years students is just one of the reasons Donegal manager Charlie Mulgrew will alter his team for Saturday's Ulster Minor League fixture against Tyrone in Ballybofey.
Mulgrew, at the outset of the competition, had maintained that he would be willing to alter the composition of his line-up in the league and progression was the asset he sought before the championship meeting with Down in May.
With that in mind, Donegal have made an enterprising start, having overcame Fermanagh, 2-6 to 0-6, in their opener at O'Donnell Park the week before last and they followed that up with a commendable 1-8 to 0-11 draw in Celtic Park against Derry on Saturday.
Peter Boyle, the Aodh Ruadh goalkeeper was due to keep goal for the U-21s last night against Armagh in the championship at Brewster Park in Enniskillen. Otherwise, there are a handful of absentees including Naomh Columba's Declan McGinley (hip), Barry Griffin of St Naul's (knee), Milford's Christy McCafferty (knee) and Eoin Grant of Naomh Mhuire (tonsillitis). Tyrone, who drew with Derry in their opener, albeit without the MacRory Cup Omagh CBS connection, and easily defeated Westmeath last week, 1-16 0-5.
"We said at the start of the campaign that we want to see an improvement from one game to the next and that hasn't necessarily changed," said Mulgrew's backroom member John McEniff. "We hope to get better from one game to the next and at the minute, we're progressing. Tyrone, though, will be our biggest test yet and a win is always something that you're after."
All unconfirmed.

Meath pylon the pressure against Down.
Meath got their first win in the Ulster MFL against Down at Saval.
Understrength Down had no answer to Meath's relentless pressure and the Royals were ahead by 2-9 to 1-2 at the interval.
Meath maintained the momentum after the resumption and were worthy winners.
Meath also played Louth in a challenge game - Meath 3-13, Louth 2-08.

Kane Connor in action for the Fermanagh Minors against Antrim on Saturday.
Fermanagh lost their second game in this year's Ulster Minor League when they slipped to a one point defeat to Antrim at Brewster Park on Saturday.
Mark Henry's side looked as if they had done enough to secure the victory when they edged two points in front with seven minutes left to play but it was Antrim who finished the stronger of the sides as they fought back to clinch the win with three unanswered points.
Fermanagh had the adavantage of the breeze in the first half and they dominated the opening 20 minutes although they did not open up as big a lead as their superiority had merited.
And Antrim managed to claw their way back into contention following this with Declan Lynch firing in what proved to the decisive score in the finish up when he registered the only goal of the encounter.
Fermanagh did forge ahead again in the second half but they then lost Aidan Breen and Vinnie O'Brien to injuries, both of who were influencing matters, and Antrim went on to pick up the win.
Having dictated the first 20 minutes Fermanagh moved into a 0-06 to 0-01 lead with points coming from Ciaran McBrien, Kane Connor, Aidan Breen and John Joe Strain.
However, for their domiance Fermanagh did not knock over scores as frequently as they would have wished and Antrim began to come more into things after this. A well worked move resulted in Lynch driving past goalkeeper Brian McAleer while midfielder Aidan McKeown supported his attack well in banging over three first half points as they closed to within a point by the break, 0-08 to 1-04.
Fermanagh struggled to get their hands on the ball in the opening ten minutes of the second half as Antrim edged their way into a two point lead with Christy Sheerin, Gerard Slane and McKeown the scorers.
However, Fermanagh responded positively to this with substitute Johnny Feely launching over a fine point while Jarlath Jackman notched a point from play and one from a free with McBrien also tagging on a point.
With seven minutes to go Fermanagh had worked their way into a winning position but injuries to Breen and O'Brien hit their hopes and it was Antrim who finished the stronger with three points in arow taking them to the win.

Dublin must have some minor team to beat Armagh by 13pts. We were poor against Derry today, long run home now!! Carlow in 2 weeks now for us!
Armagh many men back from last year APS?
Just the two starters back for Armagh this year.
Can't make head nor tail of that result. Previous form wouldn't suggest there was anything near 13 points between the teams. Dublin have drawn and lost their last two games against teams that Armagh have beaten, for instance. Either Dublin had been holding back in recent weeks, or Armagh chose this game to try a lot of experiments. Or maybe sportsmanager have the wrong score up, wouldn't be the first time.

Its the right score. Armagh were dreadful. Only game I've seen our minors this year in but one of the regular observers said Armagh were the worst side we've played so far. Maybe Armagh were missing players or keeping their powder dry. Seriously beyond awful- I can't imagine Armagh will have anything like that team out come the big games.
Dublin have a good side this year- but we aren' that good. We've a lot of our team only u17.
From what i've heard Cavan were best side we've played this year- but you have to allow teams trying things out in these compettions and minors being minors can go from being good to terrible in the space of a week more than any other grade I've found.
Watched our minors against Meath a couple of weeks ago and they looked fairly good in spells, then they went and beat what seems to be a decent Cavan team, in Cavan. So it's very surprising to go down by so much. It's almost two years since the Armagh minors lost a game, so back to earth with a bang. I suppose last year's team came largely ready made, with the majority on the panel from the previous year. This time round the management have to start from scratch and are still figuring things out, a good trashing at this time of year may do them some good later on. Although it means f**k all at the end of the day, still nice to do well in the league. Over recent years, it's proven to be a very reliable indicator of Champonship prospects.

Meath minor football manager Davy Dalton was pleased with his team's second-half performance against Monaghan at Ballybay on Saturday.
Hard work, guts and determination were the requirements at Ballybay on Saturday where Meath stood up to the Monaghan test in the fourth round of the Ulster MFL.
This was a tough game and one which provided plenty of data for the selectors as they strive to finalise a panel ahead of the Leinster MFC opener against Kilkenny in a fortnight.
"This was championship football in a league game and we learned a lot about the players," enthused Meath manager Davy Dalton after the final whistle brought relief and an unlikely victory based on the evidence of the opening half.
Meath were totally off the pace in the first-half and were simply brushed aside by a physically imposing Monaghan team.
Midfield was a complete barren area for the Royal County as Daniel Queeney and Conor Sheridan rarely got a touch of the ball.
There was 30 minutes of a rearguard action which showed Conor McGill as a full-back with huge potential, but it was a little unusual to see Fiachra McEntee as a corner back.
The Monaghan siege abated briefly when Donal Landy, Bryan Davis and Cian O'Brien split the posts. Landy, Davis and Conor Devereux also hit the woodwork during that period, but it was generally one-way traffic towards the Meath goals at the well-appointed Ballybay venue.
Monaghan had a goal inside three minutes form Daniel McKenna and they were also denied by the woodwork on another occasion. Further points from McKenna (two), Jack McCarron and Peter Dooney kept them in the ascendancy before Meath were left with a second-half mountain to climb by the concession of a late goal.
Generous refereeing facilitated John McGuigan's run from the end line and when he centred McCarron finished to the net for a 2-4 to 0-3 interval lead.
Alastar Doyle, Brian McMahon, Shane Barry and Fergus Toolan were introduced for the second-half, but all Meath could muster was a brace of squandered Queeney frees before McKenna increased Monaghan's lead from an excellent free.
Landy got Meath on the scoreboard with a point soon after and then the Royals enjoyed a slice of good fortune.
Eoin Lynch's effort hit the post and the ball fell kindly to Queeney who maintained his composure and finished to the net near the end of the third-quarter.
Devereux, who maintained a high-octane workrate throughout, carved an opening for an individual goal which owed as much to his persistence as his skill. That put Meath in the driving seat although they still trailed by 2-3 to 2-5.
Monaghan managed one more point, but they were on the back foot at this stage and Barry and Landy drew the sides level with seven minutes remaining.
Paddy Fox pointed Meath into the lead and the Royals held on for an excellent victory which augurs well for the tougher championship tests which lie ahead.
Meath complete their campaign in the Ulster MFL against Dublin next Saturday, 12.0.

Donegal minors welcome Westmeath
Ulster Minor League - Donegal v Westmeath - MacCumhaill Park, Saturday, 12 noon
By Alan Foley
Donegal essentially need snookers if they are to progress in the Ulster Minor League, so Saturday's final group game against Westmeath offers what is probably the last competitive test before the ball gets thrown into the air come championship.
With the Down fixture in the Ulster championship quarter-final now just seven weeks away, Charlie Mulgrew has seen his side progressing and last weekend at Creggan, they defeated Antrim 1-14 to 0-8 with Glenswilly's Leon Kelly scoring the only goal of the game. All in all, it means that Donegal have five points from four games, after previously losing to Tyrone, drawing with Derry and beating Fermanagh.
There are a combination of unpredictable results that could see Donegal continue in the competition and contest the league final, but they involve Derry drawing in Fermanagh, Tyrone losing in Antrim and Donegal making up a score difference of 10.
The team training early in Convoy on Wednesday night as to accommodate the Ulster U-21 final in Enniskillen between Donegal and Cavan.
"We played very well in the second half of the game against Antrim and although we have a slim chance of getting through, we're going out to win the game against Westmeath instead of planning to knock up a cricket score from the start," backroom team member John McEniff said.
"From here on in then, we'll be taking up the training and will arrange a couple of challenge games ahead of the match against Down, which isn't too far away at this stage."

Ulster Minor Hurling League Division Two Final
Tyrone ...............1-09 Donegal..................2-07
Tyrone Minors failed in their bid to win the Division Two Hurling League title when they lost by the minimum margin to Donegal in the final at the Mid Ulster Sports Arena in Cookstown on Saturday afternoon.
Having beaten the same opponents by nine points a couple of weeks ago in their group game the Red Hands went into the decider as favourites, but poor shooting cost them dearly as they hit fourteen wides during the course of the game.
Tyrone got off to a great start with an early goal from Kevin Barry Corrigan and they built on that with Liam Armstrong and Damian Casey both landing points in the opening quarter.
Brendan Tourish had a Donegal point, but back came Tyrone with a brace from Casey to go half a dozen in front. The rest of the half though belonged to Donegal and late goals from Conor McVeigh and Cormac Brown saw them fight back to get on level terms by the interval 1-7 to 2-4.
Tourish and Casey exchanged points on the restart before Martin Reilly put the visitors in front. Tyrone were dominating possession but they were failing to transfer that into scores and instead of building up a match winning lead their inaccuracies allowed their opponents to stay in touch. Scores were proving difficult to come by with Tourish and Casey getting the final points for their respective sides.
In injury time a melee erupted that saw Donegal reduced to twelve players when Andrew Nelson, Gareth Quinn and Gerry Fegan were all straight red carded, but they managed to hold on to take the title.

What happened there I wonder? Just not able to field a team?
What way did the tables end up? Who are in the Final?
I make it Dublin V Tyrone in the final. Can't remember what way it went in previous years, but I'm assuming they'll sort out teams level on points using head to heads, as Donegal's walkover makes it impossible to use score difference.
Think Tyrone definately in the final as they had to win and Derry needed to be beat in their game which did happen.

Ah now I see what happened. We paid off WM not to travel. AFAIK we hadn't a hope in hell of making up the score difference required to make it though so by getting a bye, we made sure that scoring difference couldn't be used. Flying start secures morale boosting win for minors

Tyrone 1-11 Fermanagh 3-07

Fermanagh's Patrick McManus under pressure from Tyrone's Michael Donaghy during Fermanagh's excellent win in Trillick on Saturday.
Fermanagh minors will have gained great confidence from this performance and result, after they beat Tyrone, in Augher last Saturday. A first half rout by the Ernemen gave them a ten point advantage at half time and put them in control of this match. The second half did see Tyrone claw their way back into the game but a fine defensive display by Mark Henry's team helped Fermanagh hold out for a moral boosting victory.
Tyrone and Derry are the main contenders for a top of the table finish but a place in the league final is still up for grabs. With so much at stake this was always going to be a hard fought affair. Fermanagh have an outside chance of making the final themselves, if the results go their way this weekend and if they can follow up on this win, with a victory over Derry on Saturday.
Fermanagh got off to the perfect start with two goals in quick succession, the first of these coming after only three minutes of play. Ruairi Corrigan dispossessed the Tyrone keeper before netting to give Fermanagh an early lead. Three minutes later Sean Quigley was on hand to get a fist on Jarlath Jackman's free kick.
Fermanagh continued to pick off points before Tyrone got off the mark, Aidan Breen and Ruairi Corrigan both on target. The home side finally responded with a couple of points from Ronan O'Neill but the momentum was very much with Fermanagh and on 15 minutes they got their third goal.
Aidan Breen in the half forward line was well positioned when the Tyrone keeper fumbled a long ball played into the goal mouth. Breen was quickest to respond and side- footed to the back of the net, to give Fermanagh a 3-02 to 0-02 lead.
Conall Grugan responded with a couple more points for Tyrone but it was Fermanagh who finished the half strongest. Sean Quigley, Conall Jones and Ciaran McBrien all pointing before a superb score from John Joe Strain to leave the score line 3-06 to 0-05 in favour of Fermanagh at the break.
In the second half, as expected, Tyrone came out fighting. Fermanagh only managed two points, the first from Ciaran McBrien and the second from Paul Mullan. For the majority of the half Fermanagh had to focus on defending the Tyrone comeback. Paul Mullan and John Joe Strain both put in good displays in the Fermanagh rearguard to help negate the forward running Tyrone.
Grugan, O'Neill and full forward John McCullagh contributed to the bulk of the Tyrone scores. A two point margin was as close as Tyrone came to Fermanagh though, as Henry's team held out for the win.
A victory over Tyrone at any level is a rarity and despite the fact it's only the league Mark Henry still admits it's sweet: "It doesn't happen very often but you do have to bear in mind it's April and it's the league. Despite all that though it a scalp for us, definitely."
Reflecting upon the performance he said: "We're very happy with how we played and the quality of our football. We were delighted with the first half performance and with how resolute we were in the face of a Tyrone onslaught in the second" says Henry.
Fermanagh's final league game is against Henry's native Derry this weekend. The Oak Leaf County will be playing for a place in the league final and Henry is anticipating another tough test:
"They (Derry) are unbeaten so it will certainly be a difficult test. But on the back of last Saturday's result it would be nice to end get another win under our belts and end that unbeaten record".
Armagh Minors Win Ulster League
(http://ulster.gaa.ie/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/armagh-mhl-2010.jpg)
Armagh had some promising results in the group stages of the League where they defeated Down in Middletown in their opening game before travelling to Loughgiel to beat Antrim (who were without their Cross and Passion, Ballycastle players) on a 2-15 to 1-15 score-line. Armagh travelled to Derry for their last game of the group stages and lost out by five points to the hosts, but they already had secured their place in the League Final. Down comprehensively beat Antrim in their final game and finished top of the table due to their superior scoring difference, thus ensuring home advantage for the League Final.
So on Saturday 10th April, Armagh travelled as underdogs to the Ards Peninsula to take on a full strength Down squad in Portaferry. Down were first of the mark with a point from play in the opening minute before the visitors replied with five points in a row. Shea Gaffney raised the first white flag before Eoghan Robb, Conor Corvan (free), Paddy Heaney (long range free) and a neat point from play by Stephen King put Armagh up 0-5 to 0-1 after the first quarter. Down pulled one back before Gaffney pointed from play and Heaney converted another long range free. However, the hosts hit a further 1-1 to close the gap to a minimum. Armagh picked up the pace again and scored three unanswered points before the break through Corvan, Gaffney and another Heaney free to leave Armagh in front 0-10 to 1-6 at half-time.
Similar to the first half, Down were quickest from the blocks and hit the opening point from play. The two sides traded points with Heaney converting another long range free and full-forward Corvan pointing twice from play. Again, Down began to test the Armagh resolve, but it was the Orchard men who got the next couple of scores – a free from Corvan and a massive score from Conor McKee into a stiff breeze from halfway. This left seven points between the teams and a second green flag on 55minutes, followed by another point from Down left only a goal in it with a few minutes to play. Armagh steadied the ship and a point in injury time from Eoghan Robb settled the game as the boys from the Orchard ran out winners on a 0-16 to 2-06 score-line.
This result is a massive boost for hurling in Armagh and will give this squad a great lift as they prepare for their Ulster Championship clash with Tyrone in May. James King gave an outstanding display at midfield while Conor Corvan caused Down all sorts of problems in the first half. Paddy Heaney and Conor McKee provided great leadership in the second half, while Fintan Corvan was the pick of the Armagh players with a fantastic performance at full-back throughout. Congratulations to the minor management of Eamonn McKee, Chris Heaney, Liam Corvan, Kevin McGreevy and Philip McArdle.

Competition: Ulster Minor League
Date & Venue: 10/04/2010 in Parnell Park, Dublin
Meath Minors suffered a heavy defeat in Parnell Park at the hands of a very strong & mobile Dublin side that scored 4 goals in the opening half as they dominated mid-field and had little difficulty in carving openings through the Meath defence.
Meath will be disappointed with the result as they had put together a good string of games in this competition and had a chance to make the final.
Three of the club's minor players Liam Tolan , Bryan Davis & Patrick Fox were all included in the starting lineup and all three players impressed enough to be in contention for selection on the Meath squad for the first round of the Leinster championship next week against Kilkenny.
Liam Tolan started in the full forward line & was very lively causing the Dublin back line lots of trouble but a cynical tackle where he was kicked in the arm as he picked up a ball forced him to retire after only 10 minutes . The injury looked serious and here's hoping that hospital xrays confirm the arm is not fractured as he would be a big loss if he was out for a few weeks recovering.
(http://images.quickblogcast.com/6/8/5/1/3/241300-231586/lt1but.jpg?a=43) (http://images.quickblogcast.com/6/8/5/1/3/241300-231586/pf3but.jpg?a=80)
Bryan Davis playing in the half forward line for the first half was having a good game as he was one of the few forwards winning possession and getting into great positions and it a was a big surprise to see him sit out the second half .
(http://images.quickblogcast.com/6/8/5/1/3/241300-231586/pf2but.jpg?a=53) (http://images.quickblogcast.com/6/8/5/1/3/241300-231586/pf5but.jpg?a=41)
Patrick Fox played the whole game at cornerback which was a surprising position for this very athletic player & can only assume that the Meath management were expecting that Dublin would utilise a third midfielder from the full forward line and that Paddy would be the ideal third mid-fielder for Meath to counteract such a tactic . In fairness to Patrick he adapted to his new position and had a strong second half.

The other Skryne man involved today was young Trevor Giles and happy to report to senior management that although he made a couple of short sprints onto the field , he looked to be moving ok and got through the game injury free & will be fully fit for upcoming senior matches.
Minors finish league campaign on a high
ANTRIM............... 2-10
TYRONE............... 2-14
By Kevin Kelly
Tyrone finished their Ulster minor league group games on a high when they had four points to spare over a dogged Antrim side at Ahoghill on Saturday afternoon but its not sure yet if that result will take them into the final.
Derry lost at the weekend but Donegal won without having to play Westmeath and that means that Tyrone and Donegal are level on points but they can't use score difference as that wouldn't be fair to Donegal.
There may well have to be a play off between the two to see who goes through to the final.
Keifer Morgan and Chris McGuinness exchanged early points before Antrim corner forward Brendan Bradley finished low to the Tyrone net past keeper Mark McReynolds.
Liam Gervin responded with a Tyrone point but it was the hosts who were looking the better side and scores from John Carron, Anton Taylor and Colm Duffin.
Tyrone got a well worked goal though when good work from John McCullagh saw him cut in along the end line before crossing for midfielder Conor Clarke to palm the ball to the net from close range.
Morgan had another Tyrone point before the visitors had a let off when Stephen O'Connor's goal bound shot crashed off the woodwork, Duffin with a point from the rebound.
With the last kick of the first half Tyrone grabbed a fortunate goal when a Ronan O'Neill free from the left wing went all the way to the net to leave it 1-8 to 2-3 at the break.
Two early frees from substitute Conan Grugan brought Tyrone back on level terms before O'Neill put them in front.
Enda McGahan then tagged on a point before Tyrone were awarded a penalty when John McCullagh was fouled.
O'Neill took the kick and it was brilliantly saved by Danny McErlean with the Antrim keeper following up to save O'Neill's rebound at the expense of a point.
Stephen O'Connor and Duffin had Antrim points but Tyrone responded through efforts from McCullagh and Grugan.
Ronan O'Neill then went past four challenges to land the score of the game from out on the left wing as Tyrone eased further in front. Grugan and Morgan added to their tally before Antrim got a consolation goal towards the end of the game when Gerard Slane finished well to the bottom left hand corner of the net.
Meanwhile, Donegal minors have been handed an unexpected reprieve in the Ulster Minor Football League. Their weekend game against Westmeath was cancelled, as the Leinster side were unable to fulfil the fixture, and Donegal were given the points. Donegal have now finished joint top of Group B with Tyrone on seven points.
However, as Donegal were denied the chance to add to their scoring difference in their walkover victory over Westmeath, they will now play Tyrone in a play-off on Saturday at noon in Celtic Park, Derry. The winners will play Dublin in the Ulster Minor League final, after the guests won Group A on scoring difference.
Was spaking to an Antrim minor player who's mighty confident of beating Tyrone in the Championship.
What price the Saffron double?
Minors take Derry scalp
Fermanagh 2-09; Derry 0-11;
Fermanagh finished off the campaign with an impressive victory over Derry at Irvinestown on Saturday. Following the win against neighbours Tyrone the previous week it was important for Mark Henry's team to finish the league with another win.
"It's a major boost to us to beat Derry and Tyrone after a poor start to the campaign. This was the best performance of the lot because we played with more consistency throughout than we did against Tyrone last week. It was a good result against a decent team like Derry and with 7 weeks until the championship game against Cavan, it's given us confidence" says Henry.
Derry opened the scoring in this game with a pointed free from Fintan Bell. Fermanagh responded with a point from play from Sean Quigley before Derry tagged on two more scores. Fintan Bell and full forward Benny Quigg both notching a point apiece.
Fermanagh took the lead for the first time in the game after they hit a hat trick of points. Conall Jones, Sean Quigley and Jarlath Jackman (free) all registering scores to give the home side a 0-04 to 0-03 lead. Derry soon drew level with a 45 metre kick from Tiernan Rafferty.
Fermanagh were playing with a slight breeze at their backs in the first half and capitalised on this with a goal. Ciaran McBrien's shot rebounded off the post and fell to Sean Quigley. Quigley was on hand to collect the rebound and fist to the back of the net. Fermanagh had all the momentum at this stage and extended this lead with two points in quick succession from Paddy McManus before the break to leave the half time score 1-06 to 0-04.
In the second half Derry were first off the mark when Barry Quigg pointed. Conall Jones pulled one back for Fermanagh but Derry were starting to dominate at this stage. Two more points for the Oak Leaf County reduced the deficit to three points and it was against the run of play Fermanagh got a lucky goal. John Joe Strain made a run deep out of his own defence and his attempt at a point dipped under the crossbar. His kick deceived the Derry keeper Kevin Farran who was left picking the ball out of his net.
To their credit Derry continued to press forward in an effort close the deficit. Four consecutive points from Fintan Bell (2), Nathan Rocks and Cahir Mullan brought them to within two points of Fermanagh. It was the Erne men who finished stronger though despite having Aidan Breen sent off with ten minutes left. Monaghan referee Sean Gilsenan deemed his tackle to be high and issued a straight red card.
The fourteen Fermanagh players left on the field dug deep and the set back seemed to spur them on in fact. They finished the game with the final two scores, the first of which from Ciaran McBrien when he skilfully chipped over with the outside of his right foot. The final score was another fine individual effort from Sean Quigley and it was the last say of the match.
There were many solid performances for Fermanagh. Brian McAleer in nets pulled off a number of terrific saves early on to keep Fermanagh in the game. In defence Vinny O'Brien and Jarlath Jackman worked hard and kept Derry at bay. In attack Sean Quigley, Ciaran McBrien and Ruairi Corrigan all looked very dangerous. Vice Captain, Kane Connor also did well and showed great leadership when he was switched from the half back line into centre half forward
Minors bow out of Ulster League

Jack Brady scored 0-2 for Cavan.
Monaghan 0-14 Cavan 1-10
Cavan bowed out of the Ulster Minor League with a narrow defeat to neighbours Monaghan in Ballybay on Saturday.
Mickey Graham's side will be disappointed not have snatched at least a draw after a lack of composure and some wayward shooting saw them squander several opportunities in the closing minutes as they chased the game.
It wasn't all doom and gloom for Cavan though and the team's management will have learned plenty about their side ahead of their championship opener against Fermanagh in Clones at the end of May.
There were no outstanding individual performances on the Cavan side but the team possessed an excellent work-ethic and played a good running game - although their patient build-up play worked against them at times as Monaghan got men behind the ball and turned them over.
Cavan got the game's opening score in the fourth minute through Shane Harten but that point proved to be their only one in the opening 15 minutes as Monaghan edged into the lead.
Full-Forward Keith McEnaney pointed on the turn in the 11th minute to open Monaghan's account and Jack McCarron and Peter Dooney quickly added to their tally.
Struggling against a taller midfield, Cavan were on the back foot for the majority of the first half but they managed to kick-start their performance with a well-taken Chris Conroy goal. It was Shane Harten's awareness that unlocked the Monaghan defence with a quick-free and Conroy drilled the ball into the Monaghan net from close-range.
McCarron, who was a constant threat at corner-forward, replied with a point but Karl Duke quickly replied to push Cavan into a minimum advantage with 24 minutes on the clock.
Monaghan owned the next five minutes though and registered four unanswered points but Graham's charges rallied in injury time to reduce the deficit to 0-8 to 1-4 at the break.
Jack Brady pulled the first one back after shaking off his marker and Fergal Flanagan showed great strength to claim possession and then evade his man before calmly slotting over.
After the restart it remained as close and Paul McEvoy scored a terrific point after starting and finishing a move that began in his own half to put it all square once more.
Monaghan came back strong and replied with four points to Cavan's one in a one-sided ten minute spell but Flanagan's second point left Cavan trailing by three with 13 minutes to go.
Flanagan then traded points with McCarron, who got his ninth of the afternoon, before Jack Brady tagged on another in the 24th minute.
Cavan were trying hard to get back level and Monaghan were gradually drifter deeper and deeper as they set about holding on to their three-point lead.
The visitors enjoyed reams of possession but their patient build-up approach worked against them as it gave the Monaghan sweeper time to get into position in front of the danger area.
However, two points in as many minutes for Cavan made it a one-point game entering injury-time but a lack of composure cost the Breffni boy's dear as they wasted several very good chances.
McEvoy and substitute Enda O'Reilly got the two scores but both could have arguably become decent goal-chances if they had have worked it a little bit more.
Monaghan were completely on the retreat at this stage and Cavan, to their credit, threw everything at it. But as it turned out, three rushed wides in injury time cost them dear as pressure got to them and they chose the wrong options.
However, Graham's troops will have learnt a great deal from this experience and should the same situation arise next month you would hope this would stand to them.
Leagues are for playing in, championships are for winning.

Minors face Dubs decider
TYRONE MINORS aim to round off a topsy turvy league campaign on a positive note when they take on Dublin in Tuesday night's Ulster Final at Breffni Park, Cavan. (Throw-in 7.30pm)
The young Red Hands sealed their berth in the provincial decider with a hard-fought 0-11 to 0-7 victory over Donegal in a play-off last weekend, Darren McCurry, Ronan O'Neill and Keifer Morgan among those on target for the winners.
Manager Raymond Munroe has employed a vast squad through the course of the league, his hand forced somewhat due to the litany of absentees they have had to endure at times. The side recorded wins over Westmeath, Donegal and Antrim in Section B, but were held at home by Derry and surprisingly also lost to Fermanagh.
Whatever the outcome of tomorrow evening's clash Tyrone assistant Cathal McAnenly states that the competition has again proven to be a beneficial exercise as they build up to the start of the Ulster Championship next month.
"Through the league we have been carrying quite a big panel due to the closure of training up to March. Then we had the MacRory cup, with Omagh getting all the way to the final. So we had to carry a large panel which we have been using so we can get a look at a lot of boys. We found it very useful."
The concern for Tyrone seems to be injuries. With so many players involved in different competitions, not least those from Omagh who played in minor, under 21 and schools competitions right up to March, that could have a long-term effect on the team, according to McAnenly.
"These fellas are getting a lot of football. While we have no serious injuries there are a few knocks but hopefully they will all have cleared up by the time the championship comes around," he said.
Tyrone's first game in the championship is a meeting with Antrim on May 23rd at Casement Park. The Red Hands have already played the Saffrons this year, in their fifth and final game of the group stages of the minor league. They came away from that match on the right side of a 2-10 to 2-14 result.
But according to McAnenly, they'll need to improve if they want to beat them again in the first round of the Ulster Championship. The best way to do that is to get some quality matches in, and they hope to get that against Dublin.
"It's better than playing a challenge match," said McAnenly. "It's a competitive game, and a final and we will be going out to win it. When we play them they will already have played two matches so they will be a good bit ahead of us in terms of preparation.
"But we have to be fully focused when we play Antrim. We played them in Ahoghill early this year and we realised that they are a big, strong team."
Dublin qualified for the decider, after a 5-11 to 0-11 hammering of Meath gave them a scoring difference which was better than Armagh's, and thus put them in top spot in Section A of the competition.
Before Dublin take to the field on Tuesday they will already have played two Championship clashes. Last Saturday they fell at the first hurdle in the Leinster championship when they were beaten by Kildare 2-10 to 1-9. While Dublin lost, Leinster run a play-off system in the competition. The Dubs defeated Louth then in the Losers Section by 4-11 to 0-05 at Parnell Park.

Feck me Pink.
Seriously. This could be the Day of Days for Antrim and The Black Diaries.
West Coast Cooler.
Was up at it. Thats 4 ulster minor teams I've seen this year and Kildare are miles better than all of them and that includes us too. Dublin missing their best 2 players as well. Maybe Tyrone were missing a good few- Tyrone have to be better than last night. I thought they were rubbish and the worst of all the minor teams I've seen this season.
I wouldn't put a huge amount of stock on the Ulster minor league tbh Indiana.
I remember Meath drawing with Tyrone in the final one year and narrowly losing the replay after extra-time.
When it came to Croke Park on a summers day a couple of months later Tyrone absolutely destroyed us.

Totally agree. I thought Dublin were flying it until I saw kildare. I'd say some of the ulster teams are throwing out half teams for most of it.
Dubs take first Ulster Minor League

Dublin captured their first ever Ulster MFL title when a strong first half performance saw off Tyrone in the final at Breffni Park on Tuesday evening.
Two goals inside a minute by Fearghal Duffy early in the first half did the damage as the Dubs led 2-9 to 0-7 after playing against the wind in the opening half.
Duffy used his pace to carry him past the Tyrone defence in the ninth and again in the tenth minute and finished well on both occasions as the Dubs opened up a 2-3 to 0-1 lead.
Harry Dawson also brought his shooting boots and he finished the night with five points, including one free with his unfavoured right boot.
Centre-back Michael Gibbs caused problems for Tyrone with his forward forays which reaped two impressive points.
Tyrone put Dublin under considerable pressure on the restart but a succession of wides did not aid their cause.
They were awarded a penalty in the second minute of the second half but goalkeeper Colin Murphy parried the spot kick of Conan Gruggan and then reacted well to bat away the ball as Gruggan raced to the rebound. Dublin face Kildare in the Leinster MFC quarter-final while Tyrone take on Antrim in the Ulster MFC Quarter Final.

Greater focus needed
TYRONE failed to produce the form that they had shown in earlier rounds of the Ulster Minor League when they were beaten by Dublin on Tuesday night by twelve points in the final. Manager Raymond Munroe was naturally disappointed with the performance of his charges at Breffni Park.
It was a contest where the Red Hands played second best to their opponents from start to finish and Munroe made no excuses about the fact that Dublin have already championship games in Leinster under their belts against Kildare and Louth.
"We just didn't turn up and obviously we are disappointed as they are better players than they displayed out there tonight. One important ingredient, as I've already told the players, is that they have an appetite for the game and they certainly didn't have that tonight.
"We were beaten by a well drilled Dublin team albeit they are a wee bit ahead of us in their preparations. They have two games already played in the championship and when you look back to 2008 when we played Meath in the league final they were something similar and we found them tough but when we met them again in the All Ireland semi final we had made a big improvement.
"To be honest it wouldn't have really mattered there tonight if we had been up to championship pace, we didn't bring any appetite to the game. We made five substitutions and it didn't change it.
"The goals probably knocked us back a bit and it was always going to be difficult in the conditions to peg it back.
"I think though that we could have made it a bit closer on the scoreboard if we had shown more hunger for the game but we have three or four weeks preparation ahead before the championship and we hope to put things right during that time. We will go away and ask questions of everybody and hopefully come up with the right answers.
"There is talent there, there is no doubt about that, that's why they are here. They are all good players and don't become bad ones overnight but its applying our attitude right and realising that skill alone doesn't win any game.
"You have to take the competitive edge to the game as well; you have to want it bad enough and you have to be able to challenge the opposition no matter what they throw at you.
"You have to be able to think on your feet at this level. It doesn't matter what level you play for at school or club when you go our there you are facing the best players from other counties. Players that are able to think on their feet, play fast football, play to whatever the team's game plan is and that's were we have to get in a very short period."
Next up for Tyrone is the opening game in the championship against Antrim at Casement Park and while this was a setback for them there is no doubt that Raymond is determined to have them ready for that game.
"Every one of the last four years that I've been involved, at least we went out and competed in the championship. We may not have always won but we competed and I can assure you that we will have a team out on May 23rd that is going to compete with Antrim."
Thanks for the updates in this thread drici. You do some sterling work on here.
