I would like to wish the McEntee twins the best of luck in their retirement from football.
I played against them a few times and would have great respect for them, they played the game the way it should be played, hard but fair.
Are they dropping down a level or retiring completely?
Retiring completely.
I hate the way twins do everything together.
Legends of the game. The medal haul in their house must be serious altogether.
They'll find retirement difficult I would imagine.
they dont half deserve a rest all the same ! Along with McConville, would they have had 12 months rest from football an the last 14 years ?
incredible careers. The shoulders have been to the wheel a long time.
Fantastic footballers. Enjoy a long earned rest.

+1
Does one of them make these types of decisions and the other just follows or what?
I wouldn't be suprised if one or both of them make a u-turn sometime in the future.
Was just looking at their medal haul. Between club and county their winners medal tally was immense.
They also only ever lost two Senior Armagh SFC games. Mullaghbawn in '95 and Pearse Og in '09.
I just cant see them staying away from it all for too long.

Was thinking the same. i heard Oisin Mc conville on radio Ulster and i was under the impression that they ( the older members) were going to give it another go to reclaim the title next year
Two great lads, acheived a lot and great role models for the young lads arounnd Cross.
I took a youth team from our club down to play Cross (around 2000 and the Macs were in their prime at co level).
After the game was over, the Cross club had a spread of tea, soup and sambos on. John Mac was one of the people handing out the food and when one of our players got injured during the game, he took him in his car to Cross health centre to get him checked out.
It shows the pride they have in the club and what genuine Gaels they areally are. They were stars of Cross and Armagh at that time, but still helped put out the tea and sandwiches.
Wish them well in their retirement.
Friend lived near them at university, he said he saw a spide throw something at Mc Entees living room window, one of the Mc Entees came racing out and ran the spide down and gave him some pain.

Good story, shows you the type of lads they are.
Sad that this day has come. Two fantastic players, played the game in their own unique style and added so much to any team they played on.
Seem to be very down to earth fellas and have given me a lot of pleasure watching them over the years. An inspiration to all young lad (and lassies ((have to stay PC))) around the country.
Wish them all the best and hopefully they'll reconsider come the brighter evenings next year and they are wondering what to do with themselves. I wouldn't like the last game I ever seen them play to be the Ogs game.
All the best to them whatever they do.
I would also like to wish them all the best, two Armagh legends and they played an integral part in the success of Crossmaglen, I loved watching those two boys play and they graced pitches all over Ireland for the club and County causes.
I wonder how BC feels about this news.......................... probably old. :)
2 great club & county servants. John mac was my favorite player along with Franice & mc Grane on the AIF team..... Unfairly criticised at times, its only now when they are gone that there true worth and contribution is noticed
Happy retirement lads
Sad to hear of the retirement of the twins. As well as being two of the nicest fellas that you could meet they were two tremendous players. Played against them on more than one occasion and always found them to be great competitors who always played hard but fair. John on particular has never been replaced on the Armagh team and even last year was easily the best club player in Armagh in my opinion.Steven Mc Donnell hasnt been the same player for Armagh since he quit. Two very adaptable players as well. Tony has i sure represented both Armagh and Cross on every line on the field and handled most positions adaquately. Massive loss to cross and to football in Armagh.
The two lads have been a credit to the GAA, their club and counties over the years.
We've had both down to the club on a few occassions to present medals to juveniles and they couldn't do enough for you.
I hope they enjoy the free evenings now but suspect we'll see them prowling sidelines in the future.
No doubt they could still play on for another couple of years if they wanted, particularly John, who I felt was still worthy of a place on the county team up to this year.
But from the sounds of it, they recognise that by staying on they'd be stopping a couple of young lads breaking into the Cross team. Probably the best long term decision for Cross and hopefully for Armagh too.
Two players who knew the right time to retire from the county scene. Some of the deadwood thats hung around the Armagh squad too long could have taken a leaf out of their book.

I hope that you weren't the Loup player who squeezed his testicles in the Ulster Club game which resulted in him reacting and get sent off while the Loup player rolled about the ground as though he was poleaxed.

Going till/sying on Amragh SFC quarter-finals SLK? And youse Loup boys were playing down your chances of winnin Derry! ;D ;D
Always loved watching these lads play. I think it was John who scored Armagh's first point in the AIF of 03 - great technique.
Sad to see them retiring - hard to believe we won't see them in a Cross jersey again. Just like with Armagh they could have stayed on another year or two, but they know when to get out. Two great servants to Cross and Armagh.
Both of them exuded coolness under pressure - nothing could ruffle this pair. Amazing natural power and strength - freaks of nature really. I liked their directness, on and off the pitch.
Great lads. Sad to see fellas move on. None of us getting any younger. Great careers.
Great players, and true gentlemen.
Load of stories about them - my favourite is John informing the manager to remove one of the Kernan boys from the pitch.

what positions did they play for Crosss? one midfield I suppose and was the other a back?

I thought they just kicked the ball as high as they could.
Certain in the knowledge that the brother would be underneath to collect it!
Too many stories of what they could do, but from the days we played catch and kick on the Square they were always going to be legends. I am one of the lucky ones to have played with them at club and school level and they were amazing players. I have a photo of all of us in the house here when we were at the Abbey and I must get it copied and sent to everyone.
Tony may in the future make a return, I reckon he'll get fed up. John won't be back, I 'd say that will be 100% guaranteed.
And stew, I felt old a long time ago!!!
Farewell to fantastic footballers. all the plaudits have already rightly been laid at their feet. by reputation the are said to be fine fellas as well.
best of luck to them in whatever they do.
While it is probably John who received most of the plaudits, Tony's contribution is often underestimated. Rock solid. One of the finest exectioners of the perfectly timed shoulder challenge. Bone sharteringly fair.
I'd like to see Loneshark's odds on them never playing again " at any level". They'll play again in one form or other.
If either of them feel like playing for fun, then tell them to join us, we've the longest unbeaten, beaten record in Europe; None of the lads on the team are Irish, but they love playing football.
Glad to see the back of that pair of bastids; what with their strutting around the park like they owned it, brushing opposition players out of the way as if they were hardly even there (in their white and red), kicking beautiful points from obnoxious distances, reminding mere mortals of what they actually weren't on the football field, and generally just being the biggest pains in the arse. Good riddance.

Ahh what wisdom of knowledge on his way back from Dalkey with a policeman will misinterpret that one Flann?
Two all-round good guys, about whom few could write a bad word.
Only ever saw them in the flesh once. Was down with the in-laws one Sunday and took my father-in-law over to Cross to see them play Slaghtneil. Tony's performance that day was absolutely immense, particularly when they went down to 14 men (no further comment necessary).
Either (or both) could do what they in management now.
Would also swear I saw one of them being done for speeding on the A1.

They weren't half bad, and might just be missed ;)
Oh, and the best to them, gents that they are.
Great lads and players.
Have went to quite a few cross matches these last few years to watch these men in particular before they finsihed up.
Never disappointed.
Great power and skill, and let some of the younger/lighter cross men show what they can do by physically dominating the middle of the field.
I see tony and his family had a lucky escape from a house fire........went past house today and it looked pretty bad...

Seen that in the Irish news myself today, hope there ok.
Tony didn't stay retired too long - just been appointed manager of Crossmaglen along with Gareth O'Neill.
