Poll
Question: Who do you support in the current stand off in Cork
Option 1: The Players
Option 2: The County Board/Gerald McCarthy
Title: Poll on the latest Cork hurler strike
Post by: The Wedger on November 08, 2008, 05:13:48 PM
I have been reading the newspaper coverage of this and it seems to be very sided towards the Cork players.
Yet almost all Gaa fans I have talked to seem to be tired of the Cork hurlers and have little sympathy for them.
Where does the public's sympathy lie?

Only just noticed this and have to say its pretty clear cut, although obviously its not a very big sample in terms of the wider GAA community but I think its a clear indicator of how the majority of posters on here feel.

I can't possibly agree with you here Billy - 10% in support of the hurlers gives them a clear mandate for strike action - it proves that the public is firmly behind them !  ;)

then just dont vote ::)

think its plain, players are now getting a head of themselves in regards as to what they want. we would all like the best managers and coaches and all that stuff but come on, its certainly putting me off the players and losing respect for their achievements

Lumping the CB and Ger Mac into the one option makes a mockery of the poll, this is a CB/player spat at heart.

So it has nothing to do with Mc Carthy then ?

Not directly no. It's about the way he was reappointed. The players, believe it or not,  have had the upmost respect for Gerald, they may not have agreed with training sessions and stuff, but they kept it to themselves till when they were convinced he wouldn't get reappointed, no way he should have been. Shocking record, poor relationship with the players-they needed a mediator like to get to the end of the season.

That decision was not in the best interests of Cork hurling and every dog and his man could see that..well should have.

Think the poll above speaks for itself!

The poll above is a bit pathetic really. It's too simplistic. The players or McCarthy/Board. Try seperating them and we'd have more of a respective poll.

Someone needs to teach you how to read properlly, because clearly that is a weakness for you, you fail to be able to read more then half a sentence of nearly every post.

McCarthy/Board should be split as I do believe that the board are to an extent culpable but the players behaviour has been nothing short of disgraceful. If they believed that McCarthy wouldn't stand again why didn't they have their homework done and have Ger Cunningham primed and nominated as a candidate rather than say nothing in the selection committee meetings they took part it. I really think the players reps fucked up at that point and with McCarthy then standing again a county board will always go for the easy option rather than scouring the county for a manager.
The bould Frank was well aware of the issues this year between the players and management but knew he'd use McCarthy as the rock to break the players perceived stranglehold and has sat back. McCarthy is not going to lie down and if he does go at some stage some of the main protagonists on the players side will also go.
There will be no winners in this.

There seems little doubt about that - which begs the question, why did they not put someone's name forward at the 5 meetings ????????

Maybe they just took the hump when Mc Carthy was reappointed.

Meaningless poll of people who couldn't have been in possession of all of the facts when they voted. most of these votes were weeks ago. its like having an election before the respective parties publish their manefestos
