The killing of the 2 year old in Dungannon Tyrone,  wt actual f
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-58127275

Also the case in Belfast last week and Wales also.

And yer woman in England that was sentenced last week having heading off for a week's partying and left the baby at home.

That was unreal and she should never get out again but will in reality only do a few years.  Seen that type of thing happen aa few times the past few years, really seems unbelievable that someone would do that.

Goodness me...I just read some of that and had to stop...that poor wee girl...what she must've went through in those final few days is harrowing

So yesterday, BBC Newsni had a report on the 5.30pm evening news about the European Supercup Final being played in Belfast, and included footage of fans enjoying the party atmosphere - footage which included Chelsea & Rangers fans signing "F**k the Pope": https://twitter.com/AntrimLens/status/1425516405626216450

As if that's not incredible enough (that BBC included it in their report - not that Chealsea/Rangers fans were singing it), the BBC in response to complaints, issued a statement:

"We are confident that there was no audio of swearing on our programme tonight. However we accept that we cannot be sure of the intentions of everyone in the video and for that reason we will not run the clip again"

The WTF's raised therein:

1. Imagine denying what the footage clearly shows
2. Imagine the BBC thinks that it's just the presence of the swear word within "F**k the Pope" that has people complaining
3. Imagine not seeing the contradiction in saying that they are so confident there was no swearing in it, that they won't show the clip again.

I watched the clip this morning. I was previously blissfully unaware that those words were often inserted where they were. There was absolutely no mistaking it. BBC response was pathetic.

I hadn't actually seen this!
Unbelievable that it was aired and paints a seriously bad picture of the Beeb.
Bigoted scumbags.

Jaysus. Who reviewed it? Had they hearing difficulties? Is someone having a laugh here?

haranguerer

It was the elephant in the room when they were discussing england stealing their anthem a few weeks ago - I couldn't believe noone pointed out the norn irn version had its own unique twist.

I think unionist culture is still so engrained at all levels in the north that it just isn't seen as an issue. Chances are those that reviewed had never heard a version without FTP in it. Nolan sets the agenda for what is and isn't worth following up anyway, so this, nor the flute band, nor many other examples of engrained sectarianism will ever be challenged properly.

johnnycool

saw some of the responses the BBC gave to people who complained about it and it was almost doubling down on their sectarianism;

If they couldn't hear it, they must have been deaf..

Which is more WTF in that response:

1. The doubling down on their denial
2. The fact that they have the brass neck to claim that "the song has been associated with ni fans for many years without controversy" (it's only about 2-3 weeks since the sectarian slogan in the song last made the news here.
3. The gall to claim at the end that they take issues of offence seriously

Interestingly, the journalist who made the report, Mark Simpson, presented Radio Ulster yesterday while the controversy ranged on social media, and his main story was the match in Belfast. He and his guests and callers talked about the occasion for 45 minutes, and made no reference to the controversy. They also didn't mention the footage of a loyalist 'Kick the Pope' band leading thousands of fans to the stadium singing sectarian songs, with a police escort the whole way. Instead they talk about about how the whole occasion went perfectly to plan with no problems what-so-ever. Absolutely incredible.

Yeah it's an absolute joke.
I submitted a complaint also and got the exact same reply.
All they need to do is admit it was a mistake to show it and apologise...anything else portrays them as supporting that type of sectarian behaviour.
