While the performance was very good, its a huge body blow to lose the game due to the incompetence of the ref. Then injury added to insult with Agger and Kelly. Very important that they get over it and put in another proper performance in the next league match. Pressure will build substantially each time a league game isnt won with the "easy" run coming up.

I'm a big fan of Kelly and disappointed for him personally, but we shouldnt miss him hugely as we have Enrique, Robinson, Flanagan, Wisdom, Downing who can all fill in. Although I'd nearly put Enrique last in that list!!

Agger's a massive loss, but now's the time for Big Seb to step up.

Borini might be out for a couple of weeks, but that might not be any harm. He's only 21, still raw, and shouldnt be playing every league game anyway.

Enrique was in for a scan this morning too, according to his twitter anyway, so may not be available. In some senses it's no big loss but the squad is just another body thinner. As for Downing at left back? This is a guy who not only never made a tackle in his career with Liverpool thus far, but has astutely avoided being tackled too, he won't even draw a free. When the club paid Villa 20 million for him they should have paid an extra 2 to get them to throw in his heart as well - he's the Tinman.

Its unreal how losing yesterdays game is now all attributed to the referee, how he got every call wrong and it wasn't Liverpools fault.  The Suarez penalty incident was not given, and rightly so.  Evans didn't nearly rip another players leg open and Valencia was clearly fouled after being clipped in the heel by Johnson followed by a lunge in the back.  The table has a lovely look to it already.

Evans was back on his feet quickly after the card was shown, maybe it was a Mersey Miracle.
I'm gonna show you as gently as I can how much you don't know.

Firstly it clearly showed Suarez nicking the ball away and the defender coming across his leg straight after = foul. Secondly Evans was up pretty quickly and no matter what he nearly or didn't or would have done he also had his two feet off the ground and studs showing = red card. Finally Valencia was being pushed wide in the box and there was minimal contact which led him to fall over, possibly a penalty but not stonewall, but he certainly did make the most of it. Finally not everything is the referees fault, Liverpool played well, better than UTD (agreed by pundits on both channels covering game), but lost. The difference in the scoreline was the penalty that was given so obviously that is going to be the main talking point.

Anyway Arsenal Utd and City is a tough three fixtures for anyone in the opening 5 games and although the squad is thin I am encouraged by the performances on the whole and don't think there is too much to worry about in terms of looking forward in the season.

Here's some news that may have been missed by many because most of the chat has been about the daylight robbery that occurred yesterday and the United fans showing their true class with their disgusting chanting after the game.

I only saw it myself on another forum so maybe to be taken with a pinch of salt but hopefully something can be sorted soon.

Liverpool to end stadium saga with £150m plan to rebuild Anfield into 60,000 home

Liverpool's American owners will end the club's 10-year stadium saga by committing to develop Anfield as a refurbished 60,000-capacity venue, including 7,000 'corporate' seats.

The club publicly maintain that no final decision has yet been made between refurbishment and a new stadium but detailed plans are in place for a phased expansion of the Main Stand and then the Anfield Road stand.

The work is expected to cost about £150 million, a huge saving on the estimated £400m that a new stadium in Stanley Park would cost, although an estimated £50m has been spent by the club on designs and planning for a new stadium.
Naming rights might have helped to subsidise a new venue but no suitable deal has been found.

Liverpool City Council have been working closely with the club on stadium options for years and for a long time were in favour of a new stadium, to be shared with Everton.
The council now believe that official confirmation on the refurbishment is imminent from John W Henry's Fenway Sports Group.

A council spokesman said: 'It does seem to be the case that the club have decided to stay at Anfield and that Liverpool officials are preparing to confirm the decision'.

The importance of resolving the stadium situation is highlighted by today's sell-out game against Manchester United at Anfield, which will generate about £1.5m in revenues for Liverpool.

The corresponding match at Old Trafford will generate more than £3m not just because United have more seats but better corporate facilities for which the club can charge more.

Anfield's 45,000-seat capacity and structure limits the extent to which Liverpool can mount a realistic challenge to rivals including United (who have 76,000 seats) and Arsenal (60,000) – on and off the pitch.

Henry himself has long been supportive of the idea that Liverpool's long-time home should remain their home.
He feels the club can develop without moving in the way that his baseball club, the Boston Red Sox, have done at their home, Fenway Park.

Henry dropped another heavy hint in June that a refurbished Anfield was his preference when tweeting a link to a blog by a Liverpool architect, Peter McGurk, that suggested Liverpool should stay put.

McGurk has no connection to the club or redevelopment.

Council regeneration plans for the area around Liverpool have provided a solution to the long-running problem of freeing up land for Anfield's expansion.

The council intend to acquire property for demolition and refurbishment - and crucially now have the option of applying for compulsory purchase orders if required.

The council will be hoping to avoid any drastic action by offering residents the full market values of their homes plus compensation and relocation costs

No need for 60000 seater stadium any more. I could hardly see them getting that big a crowd in the championship.

Watched MOTD2 last night, the Liverpool supporting presenter, the former Liverpool legend defender, and the former Arsenal player, & self confessed boyhood Liverpool fan ALL agreed the referee got all the major calls on the day correct. Yet the Liverpool fans still feel agrieved?

Goats Do Shave

Lawro said he could see why Brendan Rodgers would call for a red on Evans, but he agreed with the ref.

Did you watch SKY on sunday, the Man United supporting,  former United player and self confessed Liverpool hater said that Evans was a red card as well and that Suarez should have got a penalty.

Could be splitting feathers all day on this.

You're right the league table doesn't lie and I can't see who said it did.

Milltown Row2

Surprised that the channel 5 show on last night hasn't been mentioned, Being Liverpool, a very good insight into the inner works of the new set up, Brendan Rodgers comes across as a great fella and man management seems to be a thing he is very good at. Hopefully he does well, mainly cause he's a local lad and I hope he gets enough time for his system of play to be played without getting hounded out
