Quote from: imtommygunn on February 23, 2024, 04:13:08 PMAt fermanagh antrim last year I thought there were probably mroe fermanagh fans. (in corrigan).

A big stadium might produce some life who knows and tbf I think for antrim standards we are doing not too bad at the minute. Probably need some success on the field too.

Don't get me wrong I'd love a new big casement- I loved it growing up. The cost of it and the ownership of it have to be questioned. It isn't our stadium if it's built.

All the Fermanagh people, like me, who have been exiled to greater Belfast!!

I know so many Antrim Gaels who have absolutely no interest in the county teams and it's all about their own individual clubs. I'm not sure how the redeveloping of Casement Park will change this mindset. In Fermanagh we all like to see our own clubs do well but ultimately it's all about the county teams and being the best we can.

Quote from: FermPundit on February 23, 2024, 02:32:16 PMThere were 3.5k in Páirc Uí Chaoimh last Saturday for Cork v Cavan and it looked absolutely awful. Would Antrim draw a bigger crowd for a league game in either either code? Corrigan Park is more than adequate.
Ah come on, no it's not. Casement might be too big for league games there, but Corrigan isn't enough. How would Antrim ever be able to grow with that?

I suppose it depends if Antrim get promotion to Division 2 and who they might play at home. I suppose I should say that Corrigan is probably be a bit small but a redeveloped Casement will be far too big. There would be zero atmosphere at it for league games.

If the argument was solely an economic one and without government support, Casement Park wouldn't be redeveloped.

If Fermanagh beat Cork and Meath beat Kildare, 5 points should hopefully to make us safe. Cork were very competitive against Cavan so it will be a very close game.

I'm reasonably happy with how the McKenna campaign has gone had given how young the team is and with the recent retirement of senior players. Survival in Division 2 for another year will be the objective but it's such a strong league this year that a strong start will be important

Quote from: Brendan on November 19, 2023, 01:30:28 PMA problem I have with the current system, Fermanagh has 1 club so basically 1 club contributing to the county team and getting tens of thousands spent on their players, furthering the gap between them and the emerging teams who are only fielding at underage at the minute

This is not correct-Fermanagh now has 3 adult teams; Lisbellaw, Lisnaskea and Erne Gaels.

I'll refer you to the link below which provides a good summary of the good work going into hurling in Fermanagh at underage level.

https://www.rte.ie/sport/hurling/2023/0821/1400831-green-shoots-emerging-in-fermanagh-hurling-landscape/

There are currently 7 teams playing hurling at U13 level - that's 7 clubs out of 21 clubs in total. As a % would there be many other counties promoting hurling as much across their clubs?

What the GAA is proposing to do to intercounty hurling in smaller counties is nothing short of a disgrace.

Quote from: bennydorano on November 12, 2023, 07:37:16 PMWhere would you play the Trillick v Scotstown semi. Toss up between Enniskillen or Armagh?

Glen v NC a cert for Omagh I'd say.

Trillick v Scotstown could be in Armagh although it is closer to Scotstown

I see a lot of mixed reaction over Tomas McCann's red card - hard to see without a different angle if his elbow or shoulder connected with the glen man's face.

They played each other at Enniskillen in 2015.

Enniskillen on geographic grounds. Sure Trillick is nearer Enniskillen than Omagh and Scotstown is not a pile further away.

Am I right in saying both clubs are Fermanagh border clubs?

Correct. Part of Kilskeery Parish (Trillick) is in Co. Fermanagh, Coa being the Fermanagh club, and Scotstown borders Roslea parish

The referee in this case refereed on behalf of Ballinderry; has he changed clubs or was there a conscious decision by Tyrone county board to get an "outside" referee for championship games?

I think referees can move to other counties if the matches fees are higher - Tyrone referees definitely do games in Fermanagh

What time do they expect play to be finishing at on the first two rounds?

The last match is at 16:16 and the average time to play a round is 4.5-5 hours these days. Most people will be gone home by then though, but if you're staying locally the evening time is a great opportunity to see play up close during the first two rounds

It's all about who you want to follow though. Tiger and DJ are out at around 3pm so everyone will be following those matches.

Any idea of tee off times on Saturday? And if so what time you'd needa be down that way, say an hour before?

Leaders will be out at around 2:45pm on Saturday. I would be there by late morning to avoid rushing and to give myself time to enjoy the atmosphere.
