Agreed on Portrush. Best golf course I've ever stood on. RCD is a bit more of a theme park imho. It's an exceptional experience (conditioning, views, wow factor everywhere), but it's just too destructively penal with a few holes (9 and 15 spring to mind) that just don't offer a chance of happiness. The European is similar, especially after the 3rd or 4th hole. Portrush though: strike it well and play for the right part of the green and it's scoreable. Of course I didn't score well, but that wasn't the course's fault!

The amount of nonsense talked on this last page is laughable. Fact, Portrush only got the open because of political pressure and also unlike any other open venue the amount of public cash promised to the R&A was off the charts, IT WAS NOT BECUASE OF THE COURSE. Hence the R&A had to oversee lots of behind the door issues (politics and all)

Secondly RCD is head and shoulder above any other course in Ireland bar Portmarnock, of course Wobbler and others will have their favourites and they are entitled to that opinion. However lets talk turkey and cut the crap. RCD has issue that the R&A have issues with. It has hosted Walker cups etc but that is mainly down to player demand. After all its always in the top 10 course in most world charts etc Portrush is not. I know for a fact the R&A sent the Amateur championship to Portmarnock last year or year before as the R&A are actively pursuing Irelands best courses. At the same time they sent the girls open to RCD a senior R&A offical overseen both for specific reasons of compiling reports. Indeed read behind the lines Harrington now pretty well up in the R&A and was actively advocating for RCD and Portmarnock to be added to list ( keep an eye on this)

Portrush is the poorest of open venues in terms of course. But that doesn't make a difference arguably having played them all St Andrews is the easiest and Turnberry ( especially since trump came in) the hardest. Last thing on this, yes Covid has had an impact on the roster for the coming years but my information is that whilst Portrush has a contract with the R&A for 3/4 opens by 2040 there are a number of outstanding issues unresolved from its hosting a couple of years back. 2 that I have been informed off were player facilities and the secondly political issues at the Train station on the Saturday night following the Orange Order parade.  Maybe if someone here put an FOI into Tourism NI they might get some feedback to this extend.

Moral of the story don't wet your pants over Portrush top 10 in Ireland yes, top five NO!! Worst course in open roster current Tick!!!  Again Wobbler and Jim Stynes some of this is fact, some opinion, I not actively offsetting your views.

A Munster semi-final would be a much better occasion to put in a performance than a league game against a crumbling Galway.

Some nonsense talked on here, the post I quoted above hits the nail in Kerry we judge our players by medals and there not Munster medals, when u look at Clifford in ten years time and he hasn't 5/6 medals then forget it when we look at him and Seany Shea, and then you compare them to gooch Spillane dara o connide Declan o Sullivan oggie Moran bomber Mickey S etc yes they all played in different eras but  forget about it a. Clifford has a lot of potential as a man says he hasn't quite done it yet in Kerry terms (all Ireland medals )

MG and the British government have changed their stance it seems after viewing the Andrew Marr show yesterday. One suspects the Tories and the SNP are strapping in for the fight. From a law background constitutionally I think if the UK AG Refers the Referendum Bill to the SC then the UK government will win on a literal reading of the 1998 Scotland Act. But this would be a very unpopular move and they know it, it would probably work against them. I hate the Tories but the good think for them is the independence movement right now is split  due to the Salmond issues, and also the SNP have huge amounts of work to do around economics and finance to attract the uncertain/undecided vote.   It will be interesting to see if Nicola reaches out to Brussels in this whole issues and if the Europeans get involved to knife the Brits in the back aiding the independence movement.

On another note watched some highlights of the Walker Cup from Seminole (I think it might be Rorys home club just now) two Irish lads together Murphy and Power were an excellent team winning 3 points, 2 together and then Power won a singles match as well. Fair play to them. Need to bring the European youngsters onto the GB&I team  as the Americans are cruising it at the minute, 3/4 in a row now. 

He watched one game then made a sweeping statement on it. Like was said it was pure laziness and poor to not just congratulate us and leave it at that rather than talk about shipping heavy beatings.

Fair play yesterday to ya, we had a cracking second half to blow Down away. Donal og is there to give his opinion he maybe went a bit far. But let's talk turkey clare are a team and a county in turmoil only have to listen to A Daly on Sunday sport yesterday. I'm not taking away from Antrim's performance what I am saying is this t he usual flash in the pan you get from Antrim like Laois, Offaly, Westmeath against the tier 1 counties every now and again - I think so,Wexford and Kilkenny will let you know the true picture.

The mad thing is his driving was fairly off for the week so there's plenty of improvement to come.

He has a real chance to win at Kiawah given his previous win there and the fact that most of the big names are not firing except for Matsuyama and maybe Spieth. It should be good!

I have been on here given Rory plenty but listen fair play to him good win, still think he's not up to the standard required for a major currently, just my opinion!!

Spot on Rossfan, tactical voting by the unionist parties should have been met with same thoughts by nationalists. I just hope that NS and the SNP are beginning serious work like Irelands future are doing on shaping the policies for the war ahead particularly in finance. This is the calm before the storm...

Interesting the SNP got only 2 regional seats many of the votes diluted by the seats they won now if people had of voted Alba 2 in many of these areas particularly the central belt the tories would have lost probably 2/3 regional seats overall

In my area SNP polled nearly 40% of vote but only one MSP elected out of a possible 7. Tactical voting won here.

Ned either  live in the south of Scotland/highlands and islands- if it's the south of Scotland I feel for you a Tory heartland

I want to see Scottish Independence. But I still say the Scots are too scared to go it alone. With the arrogance of Boris I would have thought they would send a clearer message. The Greens will have 9 seats or so but with less than 1% of vote. It's share of vote that will determine a referendum win and right now it looks about 51 to 49 to pro-Union. That just gives London the ammunition to deny. But I will look up what C Martin has to say.
