Irish in Action Day 8

Disaster for Hockey women to lose to India and now have to likely beat Olympic champions GB to make the qtr final as India are expected to beat bottom of table South Africa. The only thing going for them is goal difference and goals scored are ahead of head to head in a tie-break should they both win, or both lose and be on same points. Team has gone back a bit, or maybe the heat, but were well  outclassed by India even if it was a late goal.

Were they really expected to do much?

Probably not by those in the know. Their World Cup final run has put unrealistic expectations. But India are below them in the rankings, so they would have targeted that as a win, and a spot in the second round. They do have a couple of World Class players. Fortunately one is Ayeisha McFerran in goals, who has definitely prevented some bigger beatings.

India are ranked two places above us - 9th place in the world (we are 11). It was a disaster in that this was a game we on paper could have and need to get something out of.  :-\

Plenty of medal contenders... Kurt Walker has a chance to get into medals. Aidan Walsh is fighting for a final spot. McIlroy and Lowry both need a very good round to get into the medals. The Offaly win will hopefully inspire Shane. If Rhys performs to his best, he has a great chance of gold. Could be some day for our Ulster men.

Aidan Walsh out due to injured ankle. Shame as he is a classy boxer. Unfortunate luck as I believe he injured it celebrating his last win.

Looked like he did it jumping up and down in the ring when he was anounced as winner.

7 way playoff in the Golf for Bronze.
Schauffele wins Gold for the USA. I don't watch much golf these days but that was an exciting ending.
