Shamrock Shore

Paul Barden made his 24th championship season lat night when he came on in Clonguish's big defeat to Rathcline. First appeared when Clonguish were Intermediate in 1997.

Fair play to him.

Game v Carrickedmond later today will be tough.

Slashers back on winning ways and Mullinalaghta had too much for Abbey.

Group A

Longford Slashers 0-18 Fr Manning Gaels 1-5
Mostrim 0-14 Carrickedmond 2-6
Colmcille 1-13 Killoe 2-10

Killoe 5pts +19
Mostrim 5pts +17
Colmcille 4pts +8
Longford Slashers 2pts -7
Carrickedmond 2pts -8
Fr Manning Gaels 0pts -29

Slashers belatedly get off the mark.

Group B

Granard 4-13 Dromard 0-18
Clonguish 1-15 Rathcline 3-15
Mullinalaghta 2-11 Abbeylara 1-11

Mullinalaghta 6pts +21
Granard 5pts +15
Abbeylara 4pts +1
Rathcline 2pts -5
Clonguish 1pt -13
Dromard 0pts -19

Big shock there being Rathcline's defeat of Clonguish and rule-books may need to be trawled through to find an escape route for the Reich. Mullinalaghta get the upper hand over their neighbours without setting anything alight and it still looks like Killoe's to lose.

Group A

Colmcille 1-11 Longford Slashers 1-10
Carrickedmond 1-9 Killoe 2-18
Fr Manning Gaels 1-11 Mostrim 5-12

A last-gasp goal gives Colmcille the points in a hot and heavy affair.

Killoe 7pts +31
Mostrim 7pts +30
Colmcille 6pts +9
Longford Slashers 2pts -8
Carrickedmond 2pts -20

Group B

Abbeylara 1-18 Granard 4-9
Dromard 3-9 Clonguish 2-6
Rathcline 3-5 Mullinalaghta 2-17

Mullinalaghta turn it around from being 6 down at half time to a nine-point win but it might be an idea not to let ourselves get in that position in the first place.

Mullinalaghta 8pts +30
Granard 6pts +15
Abbeylara 5pts +1
Dromard 2pts -13
Rathcline 2pts -14
Clonguish 1pt -19

Dromard and Rathcline effectively play off next weekend in order to meet Killoe in the quarter-final with Slashers, county finalists just a month ago, in a similar story with Carrickedmond.
Leader Cup winners: 1945, 1947, 1948, 1949, 1950, 1951, 2013, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2021, 2023.

Shamrock Shore

Pleasantly surprised by Mostrim's form. We could be contenders but injuries will ultimately end the run if not at QF stage then surely at semi stage.

Killoe and Mullinalaghta are the only real contenders.
Slashers have gone so far backwards they may struggle to progress. Carrickedmond will give them loads in the final match.

Slashers are still top of the roll of honour however.
Drumlish stopped winning in 1945. Sounds a bit like Cavan

Drumlish is Fr. Manning Gaels now.

Shamrock Shore

Fr. Manning Gaels should have been in at least a Leinster final 20 years ago. They had a very strong team then, but, like a lot of senior clubs in rural Ireland, they can swing from strong senior to average intermediate.

What I meant about Slashers is that only 2 months or so ago they were in the 2020 county final. Now they are in a dogfight for a final quarter final place. I am not suggesting a terminal decline.

Final round of group matches this weekend:

Group A

Killoe v Mostrim, Fri, 8.15pm, Monaduff
Longford Slashers v Carrickedmond, Sun, 4.30pm, Pearse Park
Fr Manning Gaels v Colmcille, Sun, 4.30pm, Legga

The mid-Longford El Classíco will decide the winners of the group on Friday night, with Colmcille likely to wallop the Windies on Sunday to take second place and the townies in a scrap with the prospect of a quarter-final meeting with either Mullinalaghta or Granard at stake.

Group B

Granard v Mullinalaghta, Sat, 4.30pm, Edgeworthstown
Clonguish v Abbeylara, Sat, 4.30pm, Killoe
Rathcline v Dromard, Sat, 4.30pm, Pearse Park

Another top of the table battle in Edgeworthstown, while Clonguish may be faced with the prospect of rifling through the rule book to try to avoid relegation unless they can beat Abbey and get Rathcline and Dromard to draw.

Whatever about the other absentees, dropping Slashers from the odds lists strikes me as being a bit premature for the moment.

Not even two months ago. I can remember the two commentators on the Longford GAA video feed audibly licking their lips at the prospect of the coming decade of Killoe-Slashers duopoly.

A win tomorrow and you will most likely get Rathcline or Dromard which is doable, followed by a likely rematch with Killoe in the semi-final. A draw or a loss and you are most likely looking at Abbey in the quarters with one of Mullinalaghta/Granard/Slashers in the semi.
